Is PC gaming really worth it?

Is PC gaming really worth it?
I'm asking seriously. I have a PS5 Pro and a Desktop PC with an i7 11700kf and RTX 4080, and I find myself playing on the PS5 Pro more than my PC.

PS5-Pro.jpg - 1920x1080, 146.96K

Lol, lmao even

OP here.

To give more details, I just hate Windows and want to run Linux, but the following issues exist under Linux:

Steam Game mode (Accessed by running Bazzite) doesn't fully support Nvidia GPUs yet. Running at anything about 1440p will fuck everything.

HDR isn't quite there yet

HDMI with Linux doesn't support VRR. You have to use displayport.

If you use a distro without gamemode, the desktop scaling will affect your game. Running a 4K screen at 150% will actually be running everything at 1440p and launching a game will be running it at 1440p. There will be no option to run anything at your native resolution unless you turn scaling back down to 100%.

Meanwhile, I don't have to think about any of this on my PS5. I just launch the game. No issues.

I find myself playing on the PS5 Pro more than my PC

Sound like you have your answer. Varies person to person.

Lmao

I've done the full loop. It just depends. I went from the switch, to a 3090 ti gaming pc, to a ps5, then a pro. To now I just don't play anything that isn't on the switch. I hate pc gaming, I hate the ps5. I prefer nintendo games and just play japanese games so what's the point of having anything else? At least for me.

it is for the nude mods. that and not having to pay to play online. That's the entire reason i got a pc.

whatever you prefer nigger, do you like the kind of games that only come in pc? then play on pc. I like console games more, even when Im playing on pc I just emulate consoles, I dont mind games not running at 120fps. Anon Babble is full of Brazilians and ziggers that only play valorant and csgo, you cant trust anything you read here, not even me. Just do whatever you want to do, money isnt a problem since you got ps5 pro

You save so much money with piracy and it's the easiest way to find out what games are worth buying or not.

I'm this guy here but before I learned japanese one of the best reasons to own a gaming pc was the translation fix mods. Those were a godsend.

How is a ps5 pro a "big money" thing? That's a sad way to view life or possessions. I've worked at a best buy and poor people pull crap out through payment plans all the time.

I acknowledge the multiple advantages and drawbacks of each platform

I mainly game on PS as I like to trophy hunt since 2009 and be part of the psnprofiles community

As a complement I game on a Legion Go for the Steam games

As long as you actually play something, it's all cool for me.

Only if you're planning on pirating

The PS5 Pro is $700 USD
OP's CPU and GPU combined (Assuming you buy off Amazon) is $1,300 USD

You could argue that the PC hardware would be good a year after the PS6 comes out, but that's a thing of the past. the RTX 4090 can't run the Oblivion Remaster at max settings 4K native. There is no chance in hell UE6 will be able to run on the 40 series GPUs.

Damn dude. It's like you people think because it says 4K UHD 120 FPS on the box does it mean it actually does. As someone who works and helps a site with benchmarking. Oblivion on consoles is quite poor with a very loose dynamic resolution. When I helped bench it at launch we came to an average of like 1200-1000p to run at 60fps.

*I should mention this was on the pro. I'm not sure what the numbers are for the base console. Hitman vr for example has no bonus or enhancements on it as well so its not even worth it for vr fags.

because ps5 pro is expensive for a console, I can afford one, I just dont think the upgrade from a ps5 is enough. I can afford a lot of shit I dont need, I prefer to use that money elsewhere. I could get a high end pc set up, I prefer a good tv and a home cinema. Fags here constantly need to validate their financial decisions with anonymous idiots

I have only a PC and I find it funny how PC "master race" redditors are exactly like linux fanatics on Anon Babble
"Why doesn't my game just run on my $5k PC"

WELL YOU'RE JUST DOING IT WRONG

YOU DIDNT DOWNLOAD THE 3RD PARTY SOFTWARE FROM GITHUB TO FIX THAT?

YEAH WELL NO SHIT YOU DON'T GET 3000 FRAMES, YOUR GPU IS 2 YEARS OLD BRO

HAVE YOU TRIED ADDING ANOTHER $500 COMPONENT??

When I helped bench it at launch we came to an average of like 1200-1000p to run at 60fps

Is it bad if I'm okay with that?
It doesn't look like shit on my TV.
Pic related comes from my PS5 Pro with the game running in performance mode.

Easy:

1 Xbox/PS
1 Switch
1 laptop

You can now play every game.

Nah good on you. It's just we were able to reach close to 1200-1400p with a 3080. It just depends on what you want, and what you're comfortable with..

I play modded VR games. Flatscreen gaming is kind of meh now.

Is PC gaming really worth it?

No

For me, PC gaming means I'll never lose access to my games and I'll always have full control over how they run.

As an example, the Kingdom Hearts games (The collections available on PS4/PS5 & Steam) run at PS4 quality since they never got a patch to run on PS5. The PS5 can run them, but they run as though they're on a PS4.
On PC I can just change the settings to run at 120FPS and 4K native.

The OG 2006 Game of the Year edition of Oblivion isn't available on PS5, but I own it on Steam and it runs fine. I even play it using the NorthernUI mod for controller support on my ROG Ally X.

If I could buy a PS5 Pro today and play it with the confidence that none of my games will ever be removed from my account or be made inaccessible on future Playstation/Sony hardware like the Playstation 6, then it would be the better option. It's cheaper unless you're accounting for piracy, and games "Just work" without any PC-related headaches.

But Red Dead Redemption 2 still runs at 30 FPS on PS5 because it's running as a PS4 game.
Most of the older Yakuza games run at 30 FPS or are locked to 1080p on PS5.
Crash Team Racing (Remake) still runs at 30 FPS because it's running as a PS4 game.

That's what keeps me on PC.

I get that, but how do you account for the games that get bad PC ports and run like shit?
The Dead Space remake still runs like shit and even mods can't fix it on PC, but the PS5 runs it fine.
Upon release, Final Fantasy 7 Remake had massive stutters and you STILL need a mod (FF7Hook) to fix it. Runs fine on PS5.

Not that guy, but that's such bullshit. Dead space has no issues outside of loading caching that also happens on the ps5 and remake does suffer from unreal 4 shader stutter but goes away after an hour or two and doesn't detract from the overall performance or graphics. On the ps5 you're still stuck with a stupid performance or quality mode. You could have used better games like Stranger of paradise but you don't have a real argument.

Hell just to add to this. There's an inverse problem where death stranding likes and performs like crap on the ps5 and ps5 pro, but is much better on the pc. You should check the pcgaming wiki and do more research on pc gaming if you're struggling.

Can you watch vtubers on youtube and play games at the same time on ps5?

DESU, Yes. Computers are infinitely more versatile than any console, and they can access the net without a subscription.

The good ones do require a higher upfront cost, but the pros far outweigh the cons.

gta 6

PS5 (regular even) is just so damn incredible. Versus a PC which is a chore to run, just support physical and get a real disc drive PS5 for fucks sakes, and play on a real TV like a fucking man

This is only an issue with the current generation if you don't buy physical/have a disk drive.

If you buy a PS5 without a disk drive and buy your games digitally, you do so knowing those fuckers are going away eventually.
My PS3 still runs my games.
My GameCube still runs my games.

My PS5 will still run the games I have on disk.

Not completely true.
There are plenty of physical-disk games that require a download to function on PS4 & PS5. If those servers go down, your game stops working even if you have the disk.

Here is a list: doesitplay.org/list?downloadRequired=Yes&page=1

and I find myself playing on the PS5 Pro more than my PC.

that just means you're a retard anon

can play the same games

at better quality

whilst dual monitoring

for a cheaper price

whilst still using your same controller if you want

with a 1000x larger library of games available to you

but boots up his ps5 anyway

okay? very much a you problem

I play on PS5. Obviously I know PCs can be vastly technically superior. It’s just after 8-10 hours at work using a windows Pc, the last thing I want to do is come home and have to fuck with windows in my leisure time. Gaming for me has always been sitting/laying on the couch in the living room with a controller and a tv. The PS5 pro runs and looks honestly amazing. Without a side by side comparison of the same game running on a high end PC, you will literally have no issues with the looks and performance.

Sometimes. Other times it's not even funny. Rise of the ronin on pc vs ps5 is very different. I do agree with you on just wanting games to work though. It's why I became a full time switch gamers despite the fact I had a very high end rig and just got rid of my ps5 pro since I never used it.

The biggest issue I have with the ps5 is that nothing releases physically on there. I'd rather have a cart key than no physical at all. It's crazy and stupid that I can't buy monster hunter rise or other capcom games on there.

I completely agree, but that issue is even worse on PC.
Fucking NOTHING has released physically on a PC in years.
It's gotten to the point that manufacturers of Disk Drives have just stopped. I haven't had a PC with a disk drive since 2010.

You could also view it from the other angle where you're not some reddit autist obsessed with getting 300fps (in single player games where it doesn't matter in the slightest no less) so you pay 1/4 to 1/5th of the price for something that just werks to play on your giant OLED tv you already own to watch tv and movies on instead of the dogshit monitors 99% of pc gaymers use. PC gaming has never been worse and more insanely overpriced yet for some reason PC elitists have never been more smug, it's really bizarre. I mean they're the ones who chuckle the most about subscription services and "not owning your games' but they gave up physical copies before consoles did and happily buy licenses to games and accepted draconian DRM that punishes them for not pirating. I love having a nice desktop PC but I absolutely hate PC gaming and always have, it's THE reddit choice for people who care more about showing off their stupid faggot christmas tree light box rather than just actually playing games.

Ask yourself this; why am I playing more on PS5? What are you playing currently that feels "better" on PS5 that isn't a non PC also title. I have tons of shit on my PS5 that I ALSO have on Steam, but I just enjoy the console experience. Nothing else Comp wise popping up, no distractions like Anon Babble or Twitter, etc. No YouTube background shit.

Just gaming.

more games

emu

mods

graphics n fps

do multiple tasks

free (pirated) games

Nigga yes, pc gaming is worth it.

I was about to say just play on Bazzite, but yeah I am running an AMD build so I understand.
All I can say is, it's surprising how flawless it is. Nothing beats the rest mode on a PS5, but still.
Personally, I can't play on PS5 because every time I buy something on PSN I feel like I am wasting my money; I just don't trust any other platform besides Steam and GOG

What are you playing currently that feels "better" on PS5 that isn't a non PC also title

OP here.

My list:

Elder Scrolls Online

It has open-world proximity voice chat on consoles. I can be out in the open world questing, come across a world boss, and ask the people roaming around me for help. It feels more natural than typing something in Zone Chat.

Batman Arkham Asylum

It doesn't work on Windows 11. You need to bypass the launcher with a mod (Batman Arkham Asylum Advanced Launcher) and even then you need a specific version of .net and you have to run the Direct X web installer.
Sure, it runs at 30FPS on PS5, but at least it fucking runs.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

HDR support in Windows is currently garbage. It looks way better on an HDR screen if I play it through my PS5 Pro.

Atelier Ryza (1, 2, & 3)

The PC ports of any Atelier game run like shit due to an engine bug. A fix exists for Linux (See here: github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix) but Windows is fucked.

Anon most of those games are worse on consoles dude. Atelier maybe but those are switch games. They barely work and even on my pro they're at 30-40 fps. The batman games specifically are very jeeted on the modern consoles.

Just admit pc gaming isn't for you if you keep having to justify it to yourself like this. Most of that stuff is not better on the ps5. Not judging or anything, but it's fine to say something isn't for you.

There is no game that is worth an expensive PC, maybe GTA 6
