Why did people think this game was shit? It's kino
Why did people think this game was shit? It's kino
It's shit if you're a Rayman 2 fan
For some strange reason gaming journos were extremely anti-3D platformer at the time. Anything that even so much as resembled a collect-a-thon would be thrown into the waste bin indiscriminately. Then a few years later when FPS oversaturated the market, nothing but crickets from these same journos.
I like it but its certainly worse than Rayman 2.
Mechanically, it's the best Rayman 3D platformer, its great flaw is that it tried to be some half-assed self aware Conkers Bad Fur Day. Rayman 3 gameplay with a Rayman 2 story would be peak.
make sequel to popular game
change too many things
fans hate it
come back years later
turns out it was good the whole time
I don't know but I'm glad to see the opinion finally shift many years after
Rayman 2 fan
shouldn't exist
dogshit game
It's an 8/10 that followed a 9/10. Never stood a chance.
Who says it was shit? Mainline rayman has no bad games, even his rabbids DLC was excellent
arcadey and overly linear, everything feels inconsequential and the level design is nowhere near as cool as 2
1 is still the best game
Alright post your favourite Rayman OST
youtube.com
It's far better and more polished than 2. I replayed it a couple years ago and was surprised at how well everything in it aged.
also the soundtrack is straight up ORGASMIC, these french fucks really got video game music down to a science
It fucked with the purity of Rayman 2 way too much with the power up bullshit and corner shots. Also the writing had its head way too far up its own ass.
Also the writing had its head way too far up its own ass.
How is that even remotely true
It's not a bad game, it's just not a Rayman game. They went from "platformer collectathon" to "mild platformer beat em up"
half the writing in the game is 4th wall breaks and self-referential humor
STICK BAMBOO UNDER HIS NAILS
She lives in a hut in the Bog of Murk. She also appears as a boss in Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge, in the Begoniax Bayou. She is obsessed with her own appearance, and her failed attempts to brew the ultimate beauty potion have left her both insane and hideous. It is unknown what she looked like before she began experimenting with these potions. When the men Bégoniax falls in love with reject her, she subjects them to her love potion, which transforms them into toads. She then breeds with these toads, producing so many tadpoles that she no longer knows what to do with them.
LET HIM RUN, MEAT BETTER WITH SALT
Its actually better than Rayman 2 but niggas aren't ready for that conversation
3 and 2 are both excellent but they somehow feel like apples and oranges, it's like dark frog magic.
COP SAYS STOP CUZ I AINT CAUCASIAN
look up Groove Armada
just a coupe of regular honky bongs
Legitimately, what did they mean by this
gave rayman full voice acting
took the kino atmospheric open level design of 2 and made it a linear score attack game
replace consistent upgrades to your moveset with a bloated list of temporary power ups
the story, if you care, was bizarrely written to the point of almost being schizophrenic, namely in how events take place and the motivation of going from plot point a to b
I still like 3 but 2 is absolutely a better game
On the topic of rayman, has literally anyone gotten the platinum trophy/full achievements for rayman legends? That one trophy for getting max awesomeness level requires legitimately 2-6 months of daily play grinding out the daily challenges. What the FUCK were they thinking?
Nah, Rayman 3 is absolutely the better video game
Rayman 2 is just absolutely better as an experience
this, it ruined all 3D platformers for me they can't measure up
The fortress used to give me chill as a child, all the atmosphere, and the robot sleeping at the exit always gave me a feeling of unease
This hands down.

gave rayman full voice acting
2 did that.
COME ON YEAAHhhHHhHh
Rayman 3 suffered from the EDGY VIRUS that was popular in vidya sequels at the time
Rayman 3 isn't edgy, if anything the game is way more lighthearted and comical than Rayman 2.
3 just suffered from not being nearly as good as 2 and being released when everyone wanted "serious mature games" aka FPS, TPS and GTA clones
I love both Rayman 2 and 3. I personally always preferred the more whimsical-but-serious tone of 2, but 3 was still very fun, it's mechanically superior(the power cans alone sway this argument in 3's favor). Robo-pirates are still the best enemy design in existence.
I wish they would continue with actual 3D Rayman games. Hell, 3D anything that isn't generic real life city.
COME BAAAAAAAAAAAACK
Snark is part of the edgelord tone.
Aside from the cover art there was 0 edginess about this game

I played the PS1 version as a kid so finding out about the Jaguar game a few years later was a trip.
Which version of Rayman 2 is good? I plan to play Dreamcast version and then Rayman 3 on Gamecube.
As much as I love all the rayman main games, I don't know if any of them match the soul of part 1
atmospheric open level design
The hell even is that? What exactly do you mean? 2's levels are also pretty linear, except for that one fork in the lava road in one of the temples. And I guess that one hidden teleport to the glade, both strictly optional.
consistent upgrades to your moveset with a bloated list of temporary power ups
But that's a good thing, these act as really fun keys that you can also use for combat. You now have a good reason to beat up baddies or detour to find a power can so you can progress instead of braindead always shoot pink ring to progress. They also enable way more secrets than permanent upgrades do.
s..soul...
This game has over eight HOURS of soundtrack. A lot of it plays in one part of one level. Ubisoft was insane.
It's a radical departure from 2 which appeals to more to high score autism over just focussing on the platforming, and unlike 2 didn't have the shift to 3D as an excuse for its differences. I think it's fair to say it's a good game in its own right, though.
Rayman 2 is way more edgy than 3. Nowhere in 3 do you see slavery. 2 starts you out as already defeated, needing Globox to smuggle in some magic to get you going. In 2 the whole world is on the brink of death, with majority of the population already captured, ready to be sent out. Globox kids are literally working in the mines.
The edgiest thing in 3 is the implication that Knaarens eat the little dudes, and maybe their threatening lines when they see you. And even that is quickly disarmed by the jokes when you hear the raspy voices asking for fucking cough syrup or talking about their dads beating each other up.
rayman has access to lethal weapons
dark lums
globox getting possessed
the knaaren
Make him write bad checks
In Polish version of Rayman 3 she calls him a rapist multiple times.
my favorites are all already posted so I'll add this

There's also a beautiful bit of music that only plays briefly during one of the cave levels in Rayman 1 PS1 that I can never find anywhere.
I'm a Rayman 2 fan and I loved Rayman 3.
Gif related is you.
Overworld theme, my beloved.

whuuuuut? surely you mean the grimace?

It's criminal that this song place for such a short portion of the game.
gave rayman full voice acting
This is in 2, and arguably even in 1
took the kino atmospheric open level design of 2 and made it a linear score attack game
2 is already linear and also very empty. Replay it and you'll notice how much dead air is in the levels
replace consistent upgrades to your moveset with a bloated list of temporary power ups
YMMV I guess.
the story, if you care, was bizarrely written to the point of almost being schizophrenic, namely in how events take place and the motivation of going from plot point a to b
Rayman 2's story was garbage. Took itself far too seriously.
Rayman for Smash.
What the fuck they were thinking?
Ly.
Barbara is better
TEAR OFF HIS FLESH
Nah, Ly.
Such an amazing character design.
And like many things the french produce, terribly underutilized.
only when Bubblized
Sorry, no room for Eva, we need more iopwank on the double.
>the story, if you care, was bizarrely written to the point of almost being schizophrenic, namely in how events take place and the motivation of going from plot point a to b
The surrealism of Rayman 3 is part of why I like it so much. It's like playing through dreams.
gaming journos were extremely anti-3D platformer at the time
Can a grown man even review such a game fairly? They're for children: they're not the target audience? And unlike say Sonic 3/Mario where it's more of an all-ages/universal game, 3D platformers at the time were cartoony/aimed directly at kids.
Post the storyboard.
rule34 of this is dead
why live
Dobson?
Sauce?
Not only that. She kinda tries to uh, entice him into doing it.
What a thing to put into a kid game. Shame that the censorship and propaganda crap got so heavy nowadays.
I’d imagine most people who don’t like it just think it’s too lighthearted and wish it took itself as seriously as Rayman 2. The game is still brimming with SOVL.
I just want to see Rayman 2 Part 2 until I die
You already posted my favorite Rayman 2 song so I'm posting FUNKY
youtube.com
Replay it and you'll notice how much dead air is in the levels
That's post-apocalyptic whimsical greenhill swampcore plankpunk SOVL, however
I liked it, gave it identity. I guess you could say that identity moves away from Raymanverse lore too much, but in a vacuum it made for peak sovl
It was funny and unique. This was waaay back before any of that style of humor was post-irony poisoned
PC or Dreamcast. I'd say DC is hand-down the best one if they didn't ruin the Hall of Doors for me. I just love it too much, Isle of Doors ain't it. I hope somebody mods the Hall of Doors onto the DC version someday so I'd never have to play the PC version again.
Once you play either, you can then play the PS2 version later down the line, it's like a weird remix with a bunch of new and different content, but definitely not recommended for first playthrough.
What is your favourite level from Phoenix Studio's cancelled Rayman 4? For me it is the Fortress of Sand
We're never going to get a new Rayman
And even if we did, it will be by Nu-Ubisoft
Meaning several kinds of special editions
Uplay and Denouvo on Steam
A season pass
$90
Day one DLC
GOD!!
All of the different versions of Rayman 1 is a trip since it fucks with what you know from the PS1 version
One thing I liked about Redemption was how it took parts of levels from all the R1 versions and mish mashed them together
If by edgy you mean what a 2000s preteen boy would find hip and radical, then yeah. The better word to use would be SOUL
DC version is the best version and the one Michel Ancel most recommends
