can't even boot early 2025 game
How the fuck is this acceptable? This would be like Nintendo releasing the Switch in 2017 then dropping support for it in early 2019

Still better than shitch 2
Deck isn't a console.
Unreal 5 is a dogshit engine. What do you want? Devs to be competent? Sorry buster. All those people were ostracized from the industry for danger hairs and Indians a decade ago.
Deck is a PC after all, developers dont optimize their games to run on specific hardware.
Imagine the meltdon when they announce Doom Dark ages for swtich 2 btw
Doom runs on idTech engine anon
Deck is a PC. You have to upgrade your PC, no one cares enough to optimize for shit PCs
'eck isn't a console and if you bought it to play brand new triple A unreal sloppa you're a complete retard.
The steam deck isn't a console as this anon said, and it's id software's fault that it doesn't run on modest hardware it quite literally only runs well on fucking current gen cards that cost over 800$ in real pricing, that's just unacceptable for a game.
It's still a pc at the end of the day, and the only thing pc has above consoles is the ability to swap parts to improve performance throughout the gen, which the steam deck can't, unless devs start developing builds specifically for the deck it will always be a handheld with a lifespan of 3 years at best
Strawman
Cope
Bigger cope
Cope and strawman
AAAAAAND cope again
Yep its a Steamiethread where people defend their multi-billion dollar company for no reason at all.
MUUUH SALES
Steamsales are shit since 2010. Instal Augmented Steam and realize that Steamsales are in fact scam and you can geet your games cheaper elsewhere
i don't know if you're retarded or just baiting. deck is just small pc which comes with the problems that if it's not powerful enough to run a game then it won't run it. nobody is making games specifically for steam deck and never will because it ´would make absolutely no sense.
if you make a game for switch then you're making the game on switch and of course it needs to work.
Still requires you have a $3k computer to meet the minimum instead of optimizing that shit.
Indiana Jones is Deck Verified, it runs ray traced at very high at 60fps
internals are still from feb 2022
a 5070 can barely hit 60 fps on doom eternal at 1440p
handheld PS4 can't play PS5 Game
WTF! I WAS SCAMMED! SOMEBODY SUE VALVE NOW!
...it was literally marketed as being able to provide home console level experiences when it came out. What do you think that meant, the fucking Sega Saturn?
Because proton is being updated for it. This is like if Doom The Dark Ages didn't have a Switch 2 version on release (it doesn't) but you could try to run it on a modded switch.
/thread
You should be asking ID why they released such a piece of shit unoptimized game
The steam deck sold at most 4 million units across every version of it. No developer cares enough to go out of there way to develop around it.
It meant the PS4 (which was still getting virtually all major releases then). Anyone who looked at the specs would be able to tell you this. Why not do some research into the products you're purchasing?
So why doesn't the Switch 2 get it on release? It comes out a whole month after the game releases. I'll wait.
Then it should be removed from the storefront. I can't go into the Nintendo store on my Switch, or buy a physical case that says "Nintendo Switch" and then find out that my Switch can't run the game I just bought, but hey maybe it's going to be updated to run it eventually
Around 80% of my games are on Steam but I have Game Pass sub for games that aren't necessarily up my street but look interesting (e.g. I just got Expedition 33 - I'd probably never try it otherwise). Is it worth getting a Deck? How well does Xbox streaming on XBPlay work?
When the majority of games are releasing in an unoptimized state, we need to accept it as the standard. Every game is being made by the same outsourced Indian programmers.
When the majority of games are releasing in an unoptimized state, we need to accept it as the standard
No, we need to not buy the shitty games.
Then it should be removed from the storefront.
For what reason? This is what Deck verification is for. If a game can't run, they mark it as unsupported. You have the option of playing every game, but not the guarantee that they'll run well or even run at all. You can however guarantee that they'll run on a different spec gaming pc, systems which the Steam store is and always was meant for.
I can't go into the Nintendo store on my Switch, or buy a physical case that says "Nintendo Switch" and then find out that my Switch can't run the game I just bought
It isn't even released yet. Even if people are able to play it early, there's no need for Valve to bend over backwards to update proton for an unreleased game.
why would gaben release a game that is not playable on his console is he stupid
The steam deck is garbage trash that is overrated by Anon Babbleirgins
The PS portal is better than that trash
What can you play on your portal without internet? Your phone is a better screen than that ewaste kek.
why would gaben release a game that is not playable on his console is he stupid
Remember those times when Gaben released his first Doom game? Those were the days man!
Wait for the Xbox ally
can't use internet connections that require a web-base login
Yikes.
Might get a miracle port and it will keep crashing on deck.
T. Owner of a the faster Ally, which is also a meme
Valve really should start using Proton everywhere and require devs test with it. Microsoft's abandonment of their compatibility layer means that devs keep building against buggy behavior, and then when the bugs change the whole thing fails. Proton at least provides a stable environment.
When are we expecting it? Don't see the point if its gonna be another year or so, especially if it costs as much as an Ally X
This would be like Nintendo releasing the Switch in 2017 then dropping support for it in early 2019
They didn't wait till 2019, Switch was outdated the same day it came out lmao
Unless you enjoy playing shit like The Witcher at 240p and 20fps
no trackpads
need i say more?
I know this is bait but jfc you are a fucking idiot.
Also, forced RT stupid faggot
It'll be announced in June and released 2-3 months later if they do the same thing as last time
They dont even know how Junk Half Life was before the anniversary update. The control scheme was an abomination and community ones weren't much better.
why cant my almost a decade old mobile SOC running on a smartphone battery run the newest games???!!!
bisexual tranny buttons
Why are Steam Deck owners like this?
Cherry picks the worst repsonses
Real answer is game has forced RT. Recommended specs is at least a 3080 gpu and that's just for 60fps at 1080p. Deck isn't nearly powerful enough, but you already knew all that you disingenuous nigger
Yet it will run on my phone when I stream from my PC at 120hz to that sweet oled screen
It was unplayable on deck at launch, took months of patches to even get it running in a semi-playable state on the deck and even today it doesn't run anywhere close to 60fps you fucking retard
Hm, I suppose I could wait.
It seems like the Steam Deck is overall the best handheld though, even if the specs aren't quite as powerful as the ROG. Are we expecting the new ROG to be a significantly upgraded product or just a ROG Ally X with an Xbox logo slapped on?
idTech engine is a dogshit engine. What do you want? Devs to be competent? Sorry buster. All those people were ostracized from the industry for danger hairs and Indians a decade ago.
It's a z2e. Estimates are like 15% better than z1e but it should have better energy consumption. Well see when reviewers finally get their hands on it.
can't play modern aaa shit
i consider this a feature if anything
Still requires you have a $3k computer
So then buy one? If you're posting here it's because you like video games so spend money on your hobby. I have a decent PC. I also have a shitload of fishing gear because I like fishing too.
You forgot your veganmessiah tripname Eric. You lost and got raped like steamdeck
Yes actually
What's the point of trackpads?
This
to track your pads
Nintendo Switch still gets brand new games despite being 8 years old
Steam Deck is already obsolete at 3 years
Good for slow pc games like RTS.
The Steam Deck can emulate every single one of those "brand new games"
If it runs Doom 2016 or Eternal, it will run Dark Ages
Nah they increased the system requirements, probably for the stupid fucking open world meme. It's Monster Hunter all over again.
is switch is a console then deck is
Deckies so hungry for games must emulate
Switch won again
deck is a pc thou. All the handheld pc's are pc's. That doesn't make switch not a console.
Man you can play like 6 other Doom games already. Why do you need another one?
muh eric
I say shitch because it sounds funny and it messes with you Snoyvy. I can prove I'm not Eric with a timestamp at any time, just post a picture of him. :^)
must
implying
this is why using steam deck vanilla seems meaningless to me. but as an emulation machine, it's up top with the best you can get.
deck is not a pc, it's not a console either, it's just a shitty toy
as an emulation machine, it's up top with the best you can get.
android devices are better for emulation
Explain to me why playing for free the same games you pay $70/$80 for is a bad thing?
Off topic but how do i install mods on the deck and play modded roms?
Is there an easy way to transfer the files from my pc?
A Console like the Switch is a Walled Garden. Locked down to only run software approved by the vendor. Providing a curated, but more limited experience.
A PC like the Deck is an Open Platform. Able to run any compatible software, with no artificial limits to what you do with it.
Nah Deck is hit or miss for emulation unless you exclusively play Nintendo shit or 5th gen and prior games. Shadow of the Colossus is completely fucked on PCSX2 even after using recommended settings.
I can't believe I had my deck since 2023, I feel like I had it for much less time
Go to bed Eric
Wow, it's pretty impressive how utterly the Deck gets destroyed by Switch 1 & 2. No wonder valvetroons are seething.
Wow really? It runs like a dream on my S23 Ultra, even in battery saving mode
posting this garbage b4 proton devs can push an update
Post Eric and I'll prove I'm not him. Oh wait, you won't because you dont even know who he is or what he looks like. LMFAO
Is there an easy way to transfer the files from my pc?
Yes. It is a PC after all. NAS works. USB drives work (you may need a hub). Mounting the SD card works too if you have a system that supports standard disk formats. There is also easy to use file transfer software in the Flatpak Discover app.
how do i install mods on the deck and play modded roms?
Basically the same as modding on any other PC. You drop the mods in the games mods directory, or install a mod manager program. Most emulation software supports Linux, a number are fully Linux native.
(you)
Just the fact you ran to reply is enough. Also Eric doxxed himself several times
I accept your concession. You know I'd rape you immediately with my evidence. Stop the pathetic cope, shitch is a funny insult. :^)
It's because a lot of these games coming out lately are forcing you to use ray tracing which obliterates the performance.
You can potentially modify files to force the ray tracing off, but you will undoubtedly have broken or glitchy lighting as a result.
Throwing more power at a game that doesn't looks remotely good enough to warrant it isn't the solution. It's getting employees that know how optimize a fucking game. If a publisher to wants more people to buy their game. Make the game available to more people instead of cutting so many corners that only the wealthy or monetarily irresponsible can play.
Ok Eric
food analogy
The game barely looks better than DOOM Eternal and has 1/3 the framerate. What is the point? Why do these retard developers keep pushing graphics for no reason? No one cares about this anymore, games already look good enough.
I like my Steam Deck for two reasons: it runs games I otherwise wouldn't be able to play, and it makes my Switch OLED feel light and cute when I hold it after playing on SD.
Also, because of vocal fanbase of SD, many games are in the end made to run of SD.
Name 1 (one) AAAA game you'd want to play
I like how the steam deck looks over the competition, if they released a more powerful device with a better screen I'd buy it. I don't get why all other handheld pc's have to look retarded
buy nvidia 6090 ti rtx-9000, pleb
Can i just drag and drop the roms onto an sd card?
Or will that not work since the steam deck formats it a different way?
The Deck is a PC, not a console. It will get a patch either officially or unofficially to let it run, it doesn't matter some random mouth breathing nigger on reddit couldn't figure it out.
use usb to hdmi
power issues appear on screen
Is this normal?
Do i need some convertor or something?
Will the convertor have lag?
Post yfw they port it to Switch 2
30fps upscaled from 540p(docked). Can wait ti play it!
This would be like Nintendo releasing the Switch in 2017 then dropping support for it in early 2019
That's exactly what they did though. Its neen nothing but ports, remasters and dlc since then
Hence why I never bought one. You're better off building an ITX machine, getting an AC to DC converter for a custom battery pack (built to your playtime needs) and getting a portable monitor, maybe USB-C powered. Or stop being a little bitch and just carry a whole entire ATX pc with you. But the deck was limited to continental US states anyways. It was never worth it, especially not from a random career scalper.
*ahem*
pc can't run game released 2 years after it
???
I have a 4070ti Super and can run the game fine but I still think it's stupid. The performance hit isn't worth the "better" graphics
The fuck are you talking about? id Tech has been one of the best optimized engines in the past decade
expecting the shitskins that form nu/v/ to have any technical knowledge
The average Anon Babbleedditor doesn't even know how to pirate games
Can i just drag and drop the roms onto an sd card?
If you're running a GNU/Linux based OS yes.
Non-standard legacy platforms can be hit or miss. A lot of legacy OSes only support their vendor's non-standard disk formats. Deck doesn't let you use legacy disk formats for game mode SD Cards because they're too slow.
Fortunately, Deck can read legacy disk formats in Desktop mode. So if you have a spare SD card, you can eject the SD card in the system, switch to Desktop mode, copy the files from the SD card to the SSD, and then swap the primary SD Card back in for game mode. No different from using the USB drive method.
a game that forces ray tracing does not run on steam deck
this is somehow surprising
Sure. I'm a shitskin when I'm blaming shitskins for the lack of optimization. You are fucking retarded.
They must have fucked up because the OG deck runs eternal with I think med/high gfx and a locked 60. It's really one of the craziest deck titles as far as gfx/performance...isnt it the same engine?
What if I try running it on Window mode?
Even the minimum spec is a 2060 super which is almost 3x the performance of the SD.
The steam deck looks like a piece of black ass. It's really ugly.
Wrong because now it's semi open world with 10+ enemies and projectiles on screen.
It also doesn't run Fortnite. So?
It's not a Console. And it's not a regular PC.
It has locked HW that's around the level of PS4 graphics, and is portable and fun to use.
Why doesn't it run X?
Because it never claimed to be able to run every single PC game in existence.
But what about older games?
Some will run, some won't, it is all very transparent.
But what about newer games?
Some will run, some won't, it is all just as transparent.
No one is forcing you to buy one.
I have both a switch and a steam deck, and I play mostly indie games on them.
Ever since I bought the steam deck, I basically never picked up the switch ever again. The deck has better HW, better battery life, better screen, the size and button layout are just better, and it has all of my steam library, and benefits from steam sales.
And currently, battery technology is just not keeping up. Every new device that's releasing has the same problem. The better the HW and the shinier the graphics it can handle, the less battery life you have.
So there is no rush.
We'll get there when we get there.
Just don't look at that other handheld from other angles. It is super chonky.
Windows has a lot higher system requirements, and Microsoft insists other handhelds only use the Xbox control scheme.
Might not improve either, it sounds like Microsoft leaned on Lenovo to drop the SteamOS version. So not optimistic about third-party SteamOS handhelds.
Can't even get a functional build of PCSX2 (shamelessly stolen and rebranded btw), let alone Xbox, PS3, 360, etc. Complete joke outside low spec emulation (and still missing some on that end anyway).
Maybe but at least Nintendo doesn't let you buy games that literally don't launch. I'm sure there are some people who only use a Steam Deck for gaming who could buy the game, not play it until after the refund window's up, then realise they bought something that literally doesn't work.
Deck is obsolete. Just get a Rog Ally X or Legion GO 2 if you really need to have a handheld PC for whatever reason.
If it runs monster hunter world it will run MH wilds
Boy will you seethe once Dark Ages gets eventually ported to Switch 2.
technically speaking, you could stick a PCIe splitter into the slot the NVMe goes in and route half of the lanes to an eGPU
Deck can't really emulateost PS3 and 360 games either though. Emulators just are nowhere near advanced enough. The only real advantage of the deck for emulation now is the Switch and that's only because Nintendo killed Yuzu stalling development forever.
Yes, it can.
Game Boy Advance Micro releases in 2005
can't even boot 2004 game
Oh no. It only runs 99.89% of all PC games.
The Deck isn't a PC. A PC is a personal computer that you can modify to your liking. You can't just easily upgrade the CPU or GPU on the Steam Deck. Same as a console.
implying Deck owners care
There are retards who insist on running the big, flavor of the month releases on Deck, but the majority seem to be reasonable with their expectations. The Deck’s biggest selling point is the freedom it provides the end user (compared to a locked down system like the Switch / Switch 2). And most of the negatives you see posted about Deck? Misinfo. Source? Made up by people who haven’t use it (or haven’t recently used one).
Also
comparing OLED Deck to launch Switch
The OLED Switch is a better comparison, and it doesn’t even have the option to these big third party games used to make the Deck look bad.
This just in, laptops are consoles.
Be ready for the June Direct anon. I am working on a certain game for a certain platform.
Switch 2 has better hardware than Deck so it would make sense. If they refresh Deck with Z2E it'll again be faster than Switch 2.
I don't understand why it's so controversial. Deck has a really shitty SoC inside. Less shitty than Tegra X1 but still crap.
Can't wait for your porn addiction depression themed platformer about transitioning, anon.
The steam deck head dev already denied using any Z processor for the Steam Deck 2. If it doesn't even support FSR4 what's the point anyway.
Probably because it's false, we got data proving handheld mode is slower like yesterday.
Not based off the performance charts
Battery tech has kept up but OEMs are too cheap to use SiC batteries.
OnePlus 13s is a 6.3" phone that has a ~25Wh battery inside. Using modern tech, you could put an 80Wh battery in Steam Deck OLED body without any change in weight or needing more space.
12 Ampere SMs vs 8 RDNA2 CUs. Both are running in 15W power envelope.
People really underestimate how shit the Deck is. I can see ROG Ally being equal to Switch 2 if not faster somewhat but Deck using garbage Zen2 CPU from 2019 and RDNA2 doesn't scale down well unlike RDNA3.5.
Well, if we compare what we got actually know, we can make better guesses on power.
To get stable 30 fps on SteamDeck, you need to lower render scale dramatically as seen hereÖ
reddit.com
Switch 2 runs, for the sake of argument similar settings, at 1080p handheld and 1440p docked (of course, both use DLSS).
That alone should be indicative of performance difference at launch.
lmao no. Switch 2 = 1050 Ti
GPU to 1300
Except, anon, this faggot clamped the GPU clock speeds down 25%, so that's not true.
anon you dumb fuck he locked the wattage to 11W and gpu to 1300, he's targeting battery life and not fps
So blind brand loyalty, got it. Nvidia is crap at low wattages by the way.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Switch 2 seemingly tend to upscale from 540p to 1080p in handheld mode and probably from 720p to 1440p in docked. Considering how much better DLSS is than FSR and XeSS, this is a great deal better. There is also the chance of 40 fps like Cyberpunk.
So, native rendering would be 377p with XeSS on Steam Deck and 540p with DLSS on Switch in handheld mode. This is assuming that Switch is running 30 fps as well.
tendies are incapable of understanding of being able to install whatever the fuck you want on a device
imagine paying $450+tip for a PRE-BROKEN (locked down) ARM tablet
but... but... muh day one exploit! muh exclusives!
kill all consolecucks
the deck is proof that you can have all the convience of a console without the faggotry that come with it
I have a Stesm Deck but still think the Switch 2 is a better deal.
How is having to pay $80 to run around in circles throwing banana peels a better deal?
I am rich so I don't care.
The performance charts that put Switch 2 at almost 2x faster then Deck in raster performance?
B-b-but you have to compare Deck to Switch 2 running at half the clocks!
lol
It's only fair to compare peak performance to peak performance. You were the ones saying Switches are just handhelds with HDMI out, so docking makes no difference.
BTW, Switch 2 in handheld mode will still run games better than Deck due to smaller OS overhead and dedicated ports.
Now is the time where you claim Deck is still better because you can turn everything own and eke out 5 more minutes of battery life.
This. 80 dollar games are king
Metroid Prime 4 will be emulatable on release day, so I disagree. By the time Nintendo starts releasing actually good games on Switch 2, a proper emulator would have come out already, alongside a Deck 2.
They would need dev buy-in for that to become a standard and they aren't in the best position to do this yet. But I assume that is what Proton-Native will be. I doubt they will ever push it to be mandatory when antitrust is breathing down digital store owners' behavior.
Depends on the game for PS3 and 360. Stuff like Demon Souls and Gears of War? No problem. Stuff like God of War 3 and Blue Dragon? Yeah no, either toss of the dice to get your settings exactly perfect and you play worse than on original hardware.
I think most of its target audience understands that the Deck is essentially equivalent to a handheld PS4 and that bleeding edge ray-traced hotness might not be compatible. If it doesn't run Doom, that's no big deal. There are thousands of other games to play instead, including some of the most beautiful and detailed games ever made (TLOU2, Hellblade 2).
Anyone who does accidentally buy a game thinking it'll run on the Deck can easily get a refund.
B-b-but you have to compare Deck to Switch 2 running at half the clocks!
You mean its primary use case? Actually, you know what, you're right. Let's compare plugged in Switch 2 to PS5.
The entire industry is going to raise prices. Just wait.
Thanks, Nintend𐐬!
Nobody is really accepting it. This thing is barely selling better than an N-Gage.
raytracing mandatory now
RTX and its impact on gaming have been disasterous
It sold well enough to meet Valve's expectations, otherwise they wouldn't make special limited editions or an OLED variant.
How would it be an anti-trust violation to use their own win32 implementation by default and make sure that is getting tested for QA purposes?
Games run through Steam, using Proton by default regardless of platform is way less of an imposition than what other platforms already do.
Especially if it is just exposing the compatibility tools you currently get on GNU/Linux based OSes on legacy platforms.
Certainly seems needed. Hardly a week goes by where there isn't some news about a game breaking on Windows 11 that works fine with Proton.
Would give developers a much more predictable experience. Test with Proton 10, and the game always runs with Proton 10 by default until they decide to opt into a new version.
I guess I could see an argument that stores still using Microsoft's abandoned win32 could be at a disadvantage if Valve starts extending Proton. But that seems like a weak argument when everything in Proton is open source.
Its like Epic complaining Valve is a monopoly, but then publicly refuses to support segments of users who use Steam. Of course Valve is getting business from those users. Epic refuses to support them.
The LCD model outsold the N-Gage by the time the OLED was announced. Play time on Steam Deck increased by 65% in 2024.
steamcommunity.com
Running the numbers, it seems likely Deck OLED has now outsold the N-Gage by itself.
