The open world is separated from the story, you can't roam between missions. To me that defeats the purpose of an open world.
I want to roam at my own leisure, not start up another game mode.

Mafia 4 should've made it so that
1. The protagonist kills Lincoln, the previous game's protagonist
2. Vito canonically died in 3 per Mafia game tradition.
3. Set in not-New York again instead of bumfuck not-Louisiana
4. The protagonist is a low ranking Mafioso of Italian descent.
5. No stealth system beyond a basic disguise gimmick in some missions.

Tony Soprano is so weak compared to Michael Corleone, who basically has governments in his pocket . Mafia in Tony's time is too weak to keep the weak and the elderly in line.

If you had an idea like setting up a car bomb in the targets vehicle beforehand or be able to set up simple roadblocks before a chase, that’s something out of an immersive sim game. Of course, there’s always the obvious “story works sooo much better when the game is set in a living world that reacts to your actions” spiel.

The gameplay trailer looks alright. It looks similar to the Mafia 1 remake, and the combat in that was decent.

If you did, you would know that the missions in GTA 3 don't let you do shit either, and that Rockstar has always had the disconnect between their "do whatever you want" open world and the railroaded missions. That car bomb example (which you took straight from the video you claim you haven't watched) is pretty much the only time you can do something genuinely creative to solve a mission, and I guarantee that if Rockstar knew about it at the time they would have programmed it out.
