I did a replay on an alt and it was fascinating to me just how balanced it was. Moments with Yugiri, Alphinaud, Hien, and Gosetsu all away from her.
In addition, her departure from the mail group was established at the end of 4.0, so it was planned.

This was the 1st expansion where I felt like the WoL was just along for the ride. They did not do a good job of making me care about what is happening in Tural, I only got interested when the Endless came up. And the pacing was one of the worst. There was WAY too much just "walk to the next cutscene". Like barely any need to kill things, or do those little minigames. They just dumped you with exp from completing MSQ quests.
Wuk was wayy down the list of my issues. I do use JP VA though

I've played since 1.18 and I've done every quest from 1.0 to DT without skipping anything. DT with Wuk was the first time I considered skipping. While I didn't do it in the end, it was the first time I quickly read someone's lines and then skipped to avoid the voice. Story was really horrible outside of a few parts that I liked, and I don't think I'd dislike Wuk any less had I used JP voices.

There was basically no content except high end raids for all of the three years of the previous expansion. When this expansion came out it launched with one of the worst stories many of us have ever experienced in vidya. It was the kind of story a middle schooler writes on their first try. Combined with this, we're almost a year after the expansion launch and the only content added so far was endgame crafting last week. All in all it's been 4 years since any meaty content for most players to sink their teeth into and people are sick of it. All this together has finally gotten people rioting about common complaints that have been lurking under the surface for years, such as the glamour system and housing.

Wuk Lamatt was universally disliked and they kept pushing her forefront. Whenever she wasn't on-screen other characters would ask about her constantly.
