The introduction of chapter-backtracking to get necessary items for routes answers the "only one ending....?" question quite nicely imo

but multiple Beginnings.
Your choices will always lead to the same end, but the "final" events in the game will have you going back in time and playing on Kris's original save file that you erase at the start of chapter 1. Creation of the first fountain etc...
The events of this beginning will differ based on your choices (weird route(s), schizoboss completion, etc). The ending will be exactly the same but will mean something different because of the context it's given by the different beginnings.

It assumes all numbers entered are seconds, unless stated otherwise in the message. For example, "666" would be counted as "You have answered 11 minutes." while "30 minutes" would be counted as "You have answered 30 minutes". Nobody has answered in the week/month range, though, and years seem to default to just spitting out the exact number.

My guess on the "one ending" thing is that you can only reach the "ending" by taking a very specific route through the game, or need to play every route to reach the ending, otherwise the game just faults out or softlocks you or something.

It was already a pretty big theory back in the day that the reason that the How to Draw Dragons Book wasn't given back was because it was tied to December's disappearance in some way. Using the number of days Berdly gives us, it's estimated to about 7 to 8 years between Dess's disappearance and the date Chapter 1 takes place. Thus, even if we don't understand what the riddle is asking, it's pretty good to throw a safe guess in the range of "7 years" or "8 years" to the question, just in case.
