it's missing like half of the 3D features required.

you can't compare godot to unity. unity has countless assets and github repos that provide an endless amount of features for people to work on their game, whether it's shaders, renderers, AI logic, or netcoding. godot is building its own library but it will take time before it rivals unity in sheer broadness.

Just keep waiting, if it's not in 4.5 it'll be in 4.6 and if it's not in 4.6 it'll be in 5.0, and...

it'll get there. there are some impressive tech demos but a lot of animation stuff is completely missing. the performance isn't particularly good either.

fpbp

It's 3d capabilities are horrible, and if just want 2d you've got plenty of better, more fleshed out options.

is this the woke tranny game engine

you're going to have to be more specific

Unity has 17 years worth of head start and thus a larger market share plus community.

Godot is slowly gaining speed and popularity. It's also good to remember that up until few short years ago, Godot was still considered as a mere 2D game engine, a la Game Maker.
Shitposters like are a prime example of this outdated prejudice. Anything Unity can do is also doable in Godot. It also has benefits like fully FOSS structure, superior UIX and stability.

Folks have been saying that Godot has a chance to become the next "Blender" of game engines. As an oldfag myself, I can assure you that next to no one used Blender a mere decade ago, but now it's the global standard.

it takes a long time for people to switch because what they already know is still good enough.
the next wave of indie devs are probably still mostly learning unity but the shift will still gradually come over time.
unity isn't going anywhere since literally all the chinese gacha games are made in it for some reason.

what features are those?

just needs more bunnis

proper IK, animation blending, proper post process, functioning TAA, better perforamnce..

proper IK

can't you set that up in Blender

animation blending

that's in, you can blend animations while they are playing and also fade between them during transitions.

proper post process, functioning TAA

could be, I haven't dived into that stuff

better perforamnce...

yeah that tech demo some niggas released some days ago runs like dogshit, but for retro looking games I think Godot is more than fine.

It lacks good tutorials and the team behind it fucking suck ass at marketing it. If they were smart and thinking in the long run they should change both the name and the logo asap.

This tranny engine is the reason why Colors Ultimate was such a piece of fucking shit

>proper IK

can't you set that up in Blender

you are an actual retard.

functioning TAA

Not having TAA is a good thing, make your goddamn graphics actually look good nigger.

animation blending

as in motion matching.
TAA is good actually for modern PBR games. I'm not going to bother arguing about this. there's no better solution.

Unity has Jenshin impact.
It's ogre...

im 7m in and no youtuber has started reading his video essay yet is this just 2 hours of cherry picked edits? if so thats pretty kino

freetard software is bad and behind the curve

no way!

Nobody wants to associate themselves with insane woke cultists. Imagine being a dev that wants to make something different from the standard AAA wokeslop only for the only viable engine to also fall in the same category.

That's why Redot exists. Use Godot without the woke baggage.

and if you just want 2d you've got plenty of better, more fleshed out options.

Like what?

Name one thing of note Redot has done.

Because they're going full retard too.

It's a Godot fork. Everything notable on that engine, Redot can do.

game engines aren't a personality.
you can use their shit and not pay them a single dime.
most of the things you use every day are made by people you politically disagree with.

I'd rather monogame desu

because an engine made by a bunch of unpaid hobbyists is not going to compete with an engine that has billions of dollars behind it for a long long time
also godot is fucking crusty to work with if you're making anything that isn't super simple, every godot dev i know that's been working on a project for 6+ months hates the engine and wants to swap

Okay, but what has Redot done to prove it’s a better alternative to Godot? Have they fixed any of the bugs that Godot hasn’t fixed? Have they implemented any new features to differentiate itself? What has Redot done that is noteworthy?

pretty much kek

Post the womb one

ok

bombwomb.webm - 1142x642, 2M

directionless mish-mash of features that embodies the worst of fossfaggotry
pretty sure the lead dev does he even develop anymore now that godot got so much momentum? has some bizarre love-hate relationship with C++, which is why the whole thing is designed around ORIGINAL SCRIPTING LANGUAGE DONUT STEELE that just doesn't fit with the compiled language paradigm
no really, who the fuck picks C++ only to make noncompliant containers, jury rig a reflection system, and use hashmaps for basically everything? somebody who decided that a C++ engine should be a poor man's lua interpreter

you can ramble about "just like make gaem" mentality, the usual foss excuses, and even the fact that godot did indeed get better in some respects
but i wanted to emphasize that schizophrenic inconsistency is basically the root of the whole project, it extends even into general management we foss no warranties, but here is our sponsor page, but you can't complain about performance we are idiot-friendly, but please use godot in production, and is most obvious when you try to understand what is not allowed in the codebase and *why*
read the faq and then try to tell me it's proper explanations, and not pathetic excuses directed at all the people yelling SCONS IS SHIT NIGGA WHAT ARE YOU DOING in their general direction
hint: disallowing exceptions is understandable, but compiling your shit with fno-exceptions doesn't mean it won't crash

yeah it could never run a modern game at decent fps but the pong clone in the tutorial i followed got a solid 60 fps

just like make game

TPBP. GODOT is not ready for primetime.

cuuuteeeee

bunny

bunykisses.webm - 1080x1080, 1.28M

somebody who decided that a C++ engine should be a poor man's lua interpreter

And then didn't just use Lua or C++.

They fixed the woke. But not really because if you need support you'll have to go to the Godot Discord.

can't you set that up in Blender

the blender one is baked in the animation, if you want dynamic IK you're fucked with the current implementation that has a massive flaw, and since its marked as deprecated, no one wants to fix it

they should be dominating!!!

why?

b-because we owned the chuds or something

lol

They used a frankienstein's monster version of the engine to even get the piece of shit to work.

write the code yourself then, you have the skeleton midifier node, why the fuck are you making a game if you can't comprehend basic bitch 3D math

if redot ever gets working IK and exporting structs into inspector I might consider switching

I tried but if you use C# you're fucked because C# doesn't have full access to the editor API, while GDscript can but I really don't want to have to use GDscript

wtf is this game? lmao

you shouldn't be allowed to spam kisses, that's too powerful, increase the recovery frames
instead, holding the button should charge up the kiss, culminating in a bigger heart and a louder chu~

Godot had its chance to prove itself with Sonic, but after the engine shit the bed, I don't think it's going far for now.

if you use C# you're fucked

yeah I'm pretty sure C#, like Rust, has _process_modification() available where you can read the skeleton and send back a modified one, literally all you need

it's open source, write the code to give c# full access lmao, how are you making a game if you can't handle programming at all

as I said I tried, but the implementation in C# is fucked and doesn't work properly, I tested with GDscript and it works but I really don't want to have to deal with GDscript
besides writing it straight into the engine means the underlaying code is C++ instead of whatever mess GDscript does

I don't want to have to deal with C++ either, besides I have looked into the IK code to see if I could fix the issue myself but C++ being C++, the code is split into 4 separated scripts and it is very hard to read, I don't have time to deal with that shit

Still something, really. Anon Babble was ready to praise this engine until what happened back in September.

TAA

Who the hell wants an option to make their game look worse?

Yeah trying to use C# in Godot just seems to be asking for trouble. You're inevitably going to be treated like a second-class citizen.

This is why nobody takes freetards seriously.

I haven't kept up with Unity's tomfoolery lately
What have they been up to?

A dev with a pro subscription had people using company email accounts for personal subscriptions, they got sent an email telling him this might be a violation.

lol
If Unity is hurting for money that badly maybe they should cut some of their staff
We all know they aren't doing to improve their engine

What are you on about, more and more people are using Godot with each passing year. Unity's massive install fee fiasco saw a huge bump in new Godot developers. As far as I can tell it appears to be the engine of choice for a lot of indie developers now, only out-competed by Unreal 5

Unity is threatening to revoke all licenses for developers with flawed data that appears to be scraped from personal data

Unity is currently sending emails threatening longtime developers with disabling their access completely over bogus data about private versus public licenses. Their initial email (included below) contained no details at all, but a requirement to "comply" otherwise they reserved the right to revoke our access by May 16th.

When pressed for details, they replied with five emails. Two of which are the names of employees *at another local company* who have never worked for us, and the name of an employee who does not work on Unity at the studio.

I believe this is a chilling look into the future of Unity Technologies as a company and a product we develop on. Unity are threatening to revoke our access to continue development, and feel emboldened to do so casually and without evidence.

Then when pressed for evidence, they have produced something that would be laughable - except that they *somehow* gathered various names that call into question how they gather and scrape data. This methodology is completely flawed, and then being applied dangerously - with short-timeframe threats to revoke all license access

You can read the entire post here:
reddit.com/r/gamedev/s/lszUMoEFKT

But TLDR:
Jewnity is fucking over developers for short term gain once again.

real devs get put off when they realize that it's a cult

you never have to interact with the community at all

Why are people giving picrel such a hard time when Unity does shit like this? Maybe they’re switching the entire game over to a new engine?

IMG_0704.png - 720x405, 131K

They've always done this, it's not new, and AFAIK they're usually reasonable if you attempt to communicate. Dean is a drama queen. Same guy refuses to put his next game on Steam and can't explain why.

they could've said so

No texture streaming, no real asset store, lack of modern APIs, no built in physics replication, no anticheat, much easier to access the full source code and assets, unique shader language, lack of port options and mismanagement.

All of those contribute. In order explaining them.
3D is very hands on and you need to know engine specific optimisations to work around it. Lack of a real asset store means that it's less beginner friendly. Limited APIs so bad even the mobile market is dry. Networking needs a bunch of code written by yourself to get it replicable so that any game using physics shows everyone the same situation. No anticheat solutions work with Godot so all competitive multiplayer games are dead on arrival. Due to being open source it's easy to extract everything pretty easily making cheats easier to make. The shader language isn't hard to learn but it's unique and has some quirks that come with the engine. No port options is just a net negative, they can't fix it due to being open source but it's still a point against them when people consider engines. The project is massively mismanaged intentionally, focusing on features their friends can implement for their CVs rather than popular community requests.

what gaem?

honestly it seems like something they were doing to the chinese gacha companies to shake them down and since they're all printing infinite gacha money they just comply without contesting and just chalk it up to cost of doing business.
doesn't work when you try to hit smaller companies paying attention.

Bombun

Bombun I think, by Kekitopu

It's a shit engine

Unitykids will never quit.
Unity added terms that they technically own your firstborn, they abandoned unity for Godot, got mad that Godot wasnt just FOSS Unity, and went back to Unity making sure to tick "I AGREE, TAKE MY KIDS"

much easier to access the full source code and assets,

there are literally apps to decompile unity games out there, if you want a similar level of complexity in godot use C#, since you still need C# decompiling tools to access the code instead of GDscript being plain text to see

lack of port options

sure you can't just click "switch" and the engine spits out a switch rom, but you can still do the port yourself since its open source, there are some godot games on consoles already

mismanagement

agreed

You don't belong here, leftoid

Did anything new happen to Unity or is this a stuck in 2023 thread?

Did anything new happen to Unity

No, they did pro license bullshit that isn't new.

Migh as well as use another engine entirely at this point

sure you can't just click "switch" and the engine spits out a switch rom

thats just some shit you pulled out of your ass.

that's how it works in unity (if you have a sdk)

thats how it works in godot if you have an sdk and write your own code to add switch support to godot

unity has it built in, as long as you sign in with your sdk details

TAA bad

did you know each AA option have their pros and cons you reddit nigger?

TAA

TAA and TAA derivatives like DLSS and FSR are atrocious dogshit. What's next, Godot is bad because it doesn't have Nanite?

Yeah
Waiting for Godot

Antialiasing is faggot shit. Either design your assets to work properly at your intended resolution or make it run well enough at 4k that its not necessary.

download Unity, GameMaker, Unreal, etc

PLEASE REGISTER AN EMAIL ACCOUNT FROM OUR LIST OF APPROVED DOMAINS, INSTALL THE HUB, MAKE SURE TO CONNECT ONLINE

I will never use an engine that does this. This is why I choose Godot.

Pak_E_Derm.png - 185x393, 72.49K

This

open unity

HAHA SORRY OUR AUTHENTICATION SERVER IS DOWN/YOUVE BEEN OFFLINE TOO LONG GITFUCKED

do the port yourself

If you know how to do it or even want to spend money on it.
Decompiling Unity is easy but it's a complete different ball game compared to Godot. It's not the worst but it's still a net negative when picking an engine.

Open source write your own is retarded.
It's a game engine, if it doesn't do anything expected, it's a bad engine.
You can criticise open source things for being bad at what they do.

Your argument means jack shit. It's code that's open source, I can make it do anything I want, it doesn't mean that the product is good.

you can build unreal from source tho

that took me all of 10 seconds to prove what a dipshit you are

unreal.png - 677x226, 27.19K

but you can still do the port yourself since its open source

People use engines specifically to avoid getting their hands dirty with low-level tech and focus on games. Juan's playing catch up with W4 games and specifically tried to match his service's prices to GameMaker, but still has ways to go.

I don't want to give juan a single cent though, I'd rather pay someone else to do a port to me than him

You'll be paying $3k+ per platform instead of $800, then.

The leader is a retard who's too busy jerking off trannies on Twitter to actually fix his fucking engine

bad 3D performance its a big NO for developers, people dont wanna learn a game engine just to make 2D games, maybe like a hobby is ok but no in a professional way and this kind of projects are pushed by developers. also trannies overtaking the community and trying to push their politics on it make it lose some seriousness and keep away people from the project

If only you knew how bad things really are

I cnat even think of 5 games developer with it
Noita
Until then
What else?

I didn't know Noita was made in Godot. YOMI Hustle is always the first game that comes to mind for me that was made in it. Also it's not out, but I think Slay the Spire 2 is being made in Godot.

Godot is the best 2D engine currently on the market. The only alternative is Gamemaker, which is worse in almost every way.

Unreal is the Blender of game engines. Unless they fuck up there is no reason for people to move to a FOSS alternative.

He's pulling your leg, Noita is made in a custom C++ engine. Godot could never pull off a game like that.

Yeah, that makes more sense. It would be very surprising if it were in Godot.

you have soooo many better options bro

doesnt elaboratr

Lmao stop talking out of your ass

Unity is better for mobile games, and Unreal is better for 3D games. I guess the better option for 2D he's talking about is using a framework like Monogame.

yeah that tech demo some niggas released some days ago runs like dogshit, but for retro looking games I think Godot is more than fine.

just limit yourself to create ps1 looking games because this engine have shit 3D perfomance

46a[1].png - 645x729, 97.41K

If you want 3D just use Unreal. What do you even want a FOSS Unreal for?

If you wanted to make 3D shit, literally just use unreal lmao

just so a quick search and find a list

Reddit: the engine

But that's Bevy

skill issue

your chance depended on a game outsourced by Sega

Grim

They asked for this. Look at these fuckers having dyed hair.

Unity is still the quickest and most capable engine for a solo dev. eCeleb dramafags, nodevs, and from-scratchcels can cope and seethe all they want.

this is the best from godot

i cant stand esls

I had no experience with any engine and decided to use godot for my babbys first test.
Took me a week to make a very simple fps game

Blender is FOSS, retard.

what is this game even about, I keep seeing it around

I played something with those characters, on itch I think. It was some shitty 2D platformer where you can take control of the woman or the shota, placing them on the buttons to solve puzzles, or have the other follow you. I don't actually remember much about it.
You're seeing it around because the fag responsible for it is a massive retard that spams his shit everywhere, Anon Babble included. He's kind of like Chris Chan or similar autists.

Good timing, I'll ask here too
anyone else had this problem where the Call Method track in an Animation Player would execute twice every time? Note that it is NOT at the end or beginning of the animation, it's anywhere on it. It's part of an Animation Tree but it's only a state machine and there is no traveling going on, nor Xfade or anything that should logically cause the animation to play twice or anything of the sort.

I'd like to blame it on the self-attested queer asexual furry of a community manager, but Godot's issues extend far beyond that. Two big ones are

No big-name players use it. SEGA did once, and it was an epic fail.

The documentation is absolutely terrible.

proper IK

can't you set that up in Blender

Why do people who don't even grasp the basics of how something works voice their opinion and reveal themselves to be retar... oh wait it's godot users we're talking about here.

I'm still bad enough at game development that I feel even calling me an amateur would be generous, but I find the arguments about what engine to use odd still because it seems like so much work just to be able to put together a competent game in one engine, nevermind having the familiarity and skill with multiple enough that you could confidently say its the fault of the engine that you can't make this game or that. Are skills between working on different engines really so transferable that you can move from one to the other and quickly feel where one succeeds and the other doesn't? I'd imagine the biggest hurdle in moving from one to the other is just learning to actually use the other, but maybe I'm overestimating how different Unity is from Godot, for instance.

AnimationTree is depreciated and should not be used.

godot documentation

terrible

Explain. It always seemed pretty straightforward to me. I have more of a problem with some neglected nodes breaking like skeleton2D breaking than the docs on how to use them.

show me.gif - 400x200, 2M

The fuck? Since when? What's the alternative?

Theres a fun bug in godot where if you try to run it in a mobile browser it doesn't fucking register keypresses from the virtual keyboard

He's a newbie who thinks documentation = tutorials. Like you mentioned broken features are a far bigger problem.

I always find myself unable to find what I'm looking for. Sometimes, I even have to scour through the official GitHub. This is in stark contrast to Unity, where a quick Google search solves my problems 99.9% of the time.

last time I checked they still had godot 3 code in the documentation for godot 4, that shit was so annoying, I had to ask chat gpt for the correct syntax

True, if you had used UE or Unity you could have compensated for your learning disability by buying ready-made asset packs

Anon Babble fags are trying to spread console wars to other places again

grim

how the fuck does chatgpt know the correct syntax
where is it pulling the info from

ChatGPT seems to always be right when I check anything about Godot with it. At worst it'll be wrong the first time and then right when I correct the first answer it gives.

some fucking reddit comment probably

Probably because they hired some tranny purple hair feminist type to be a community manager on a good wage for a game engine while all of the programmers are volunteers. And no that doesn't mean Redot is better. Two sides of the same aids infested double ended dildo.

honestly, what's stopping me from ignoring the tranny creators and making a chudcore game in godot?
like, the storefronts seem more of a filter for "problematic" games than whatever engine you decide to use
