Most of those people won’t come back. People seem to forget that the biggest playerbase for World came long into its lifecycle after all the e-celebs picked it up again (including people like Assgoblin), and that was effectively a feature-complete game with all the updates and monsters in it. Then those same people bought Wilds and became confused why the game has like 1/10th of the content that World does.

This is a trend that’s going to happen more often. Normalfags are going to “discover” a game long into its launch and that’s where the majority of its players will come from. Less and less of the playerbase is going to want to pay for a glorified beta test as gaming gets more expensive. They’ll wait for the 50% off deal when the game is actually finished. Wilds might actually get some players 3-4 years from now.

I would be fine with this as an answer if there were not games with 1/10 the peak maintaining similar playerbases as we speak on steam right now that have been out for years.

the longer time goes on, the more certain it becomes that we're only getting one monster per title update:
Lagi, Steve, Gogmazios, unknown monster, rumoured to be a collab monster, but could potentially be a frontier monster
that and the AT versions of the apex monsters are all we've got happening until the expansion comes out
There was a lot of copium on the leaks subreddit about Title Updates having a .5 update in the middle that might add something, and there were rumours of Zinogre being added early on which don't seem to be happening and the ongoing rumours of Shen Gaoren data existing in the files
but yeah, the longer time goes on, the most obvious it becomes that there's just not much to do here

I gave Rise shit for being too boring aesthetically, but it really is a fun game that also runs on everybody's machine. No focus mode, no slow walking segments while a retard talks about the wildlife, weapons feel good and have cool movesets, and you don't need a 9800X3D to run it.

I stopped touching this game and any other MH game since 3 Ultimate as soon as I beat the last monster and have the armor and weapon (hammer) that I like.

This entire complaint is mute. World tempered Hunts would last like 5 minutes for most people familiar with the series minus maybe the elder dragons.
I distinctively remember farming tempered rathalos in base world with Hammer and killing it in like 3 minutes. I'm not a speedrunner man, base World was just that fucking silly.
