There's this game called Wratch, which was made using the Quake 1 engine to be a retro shooter very faithful to the originals. The team that made the game took longer to finish it than ID Software took to make the Quake engine from scratch, and then the whole game... but that's not all, really. If you compare the releases, it took the guys as long to make Wratch as it took ID Softare to go from Wolf 3D to fucking Quake 3 Arena, LOL.

Yea, small dev teams were far more productive back then than now. My guess is less distractions and breaks. I feel like the personality of an indie dev today is to take constant mental breaks from projects. It goes hand in hand with how soft we are today.

A curiosity that not many people have noticed, but BOTW's Master Trials DLC (with hard mode) makes the experience more different from the original BOTW than TOTK is. It's insane. Not that that DLC is any good, in fact BOTW's hard mode is laughably badly designed, on top of a game that is already entirely badly designed, but holy shit, at least that DLC forces you to change your approach in the early part of the game, while TOTK is the same fucking shit again.
