Never played DOOM, but grew up playing DOOM-like games on my parents' old Windows XP PC
Finally grabbed DOOM 2016 on sale a few months ago, had a blast
Watching more streams of people playing the original DOOM with mods and new maps, think it looks cozy
Now I just want to play the older games instead of getting Eternal
Isn't it easy to just find the originals online, or should I just grab them on sale on Steam or GOG when I get the chance? I'm busy playing other old games like Deus Ex, so I'm not in a rush either way.

Contrary to what whiteknights online try to make you believe; nobody cares about Xbox related IPs. Also; nuDoom isn't Doom.
The source ports are free and open but you need the IWADs, which admittedly are easy to find for free but it can be convenient to have a "legitimate" source for them if you don't want to have to worry about downloading them and verifying checksums to make sure you have the right versions.
Buy it on steam or gog but make sure you have access to the wad files. Then download gzdoom and copy and paste the wad files over to your gzdoom folder. Then download some PWADS (some good ones for you to start with are Alien Vendetta, Hell Revealed, Speed of Doom, Eternal Doom, and some other gameplay ones). Click a pwad, drag over the gzdoom executable and click Doom 2 as your IWAD choice. That's how you play mods. Multiple mods (like a pwad+a gameplay mod like Brutal Doom), just ctrl+click over multiple mods and drag them over the gzdoom executable and Doom2 iwad. Have fun.

I'm not paying 80 EUR for NuDoom. I love classic Doom (and modern WADs too) but this ain't it. For half that asking price, maybe, I mean I'm sure it's going to be a reasonably enjoyable game but I don't like it enough to spend the kind of money they're asking for.

I still like Doom and id so I hope they won't go broke, but they really did the bare minimum not making it woke and even then Debra Wilson is STILL somehow in the game
Also the parry shit is just as much as a mistake as 2016's cinematic kills or Eternal's scripted weapon puzzles. They always have to mix in something stupid holding those games back. The parry mechanic is the least worst of them all so I think the game is great, but I still think the parry is too easy and too strong, same for all the melee moves.
