Sayla my beloved
Nostalgia
Pokèmon's repeated switching and 1v1 aspects make the game very different from other turn based games
autism
The type of people who have that sentiment are probably the type of people who at most just use their starter and the bird pokemon
its a zoomer talking about Go or the moba
Why don't we have any good gundam turned based rpgs? Seams like a no brainer. A gundam xcom would be insane.
I always felt like a tactical like Fire Emblem would work well
I don't love pokemon, but it was the only turn based battler I enjoyed playing.
Probably because it is [your dudes] engaging in "strategic" (as much as rock paper scissors can be strategic )
Regular jarpigs you're playing with the developers characters and pcs or npcs don't have clear defined strengths and weaknesses. rps where you don't know what hands the enemy is allowed to play unless you look up guides is not fun. Also they are not cool or cute.
Yeah, and it'd be even cooler if it was a crossover with other mecha anime, like a war of super robots. How come there's nothing like that out there? Bandai Namco has access to plenty of licenses for mecha anime so they could develop it, maybe even make a franchise out of it
Play SMT
I meant without crossover will all the other ones, I mean just a straight "here's a gundam game, here's your avatar dude, go have fun with the bridge bunnies", I want one Char Clone, not the whole roster
I don't want a crossover game. I want a UC gundam rpg.
I like cute critters but I hate shitty gameplay
What are you talking about, mecha games seem to only ever get turn based games
Who are you quoting?
wtf im watching gundam rn
Go play Gihren's Greed then
Repeated switching
Let's be real no one that hates turn-based games is using Set instead of Switch
I tried Gihren's greed but it still wasnt translated enough for me to enjoy, also I couldn't take it seriously because of the history channel music
Nostalgia
when people say they don't like turn based battles they just don't like some specific RPG they played 20 minutes of one time and want to include themselves in conversations most of the time
Mech-based tactcis rpg
The children yearn for Front Mission
Because retards can mash A and pretend they are the best.
Putridly awful taste!
And probably zoomer brainrot!
I remember MS Saga having a small cult following here back in the day
Gundam cross rays and generation eternal
only got into gundam recently
missed out on that gundam shooter from a few years ago
fuck me I would have loved to play it
I heard the SD Gundam games are pretty good but I never played any of them
Gihren's Greed is also amazing according to the people that played the fan translation (I disregard everything stinking japniggers say about media, fuck them)
I like MS Saga even if I normally really dislike JRPGs lol
one day I'll get to clear the base in the south pole
Congratulations on your 100th kill and promotion anon. Command has authorized you a custom suit of your choosing, as well as color scheme. What will it be?
a captured GM lol, if that's not available I'll take a Dom with lightened armor
when it comes to zeek one year war suits it's not a matter of what's best, it's a matter of "what's the least shit"
The two recent G Generation games are kinda lame because there really isn't any story, you just put a squad of units during a fight scene of a show/movie, no one ever acknowledges your squads existence and the scene just kinda plays out as normal
100th kill
The choice is obvious
Turn based is only for childish games like Pokemon
Pokemon has an enticing world, and an entire franchise outside of the main games.
You don't have to like turn-based RPGs to like the concept of Pokemon.
Oh, you didnt miss much
There's a private server.
side7.xyz
I hate turn based battles in non-portable games.
I love turn-based, mobile Pokemon games.
Next.
so feddies are the bad guys right
nostalgia
and monster catcher games feel more "immersive" with turn based because you are monster master telling monsters what to do, not an invisible spector who shares to minds of 3-5 dudes
Gundam seed had better plot than the og
Just depends on the political situation. They're never good but are sometimes the lesser of the present evils. But left unchecked with radicalized leadership, they can turn into something like the Titans from Zeta. But they're also necessary when some anti-Earth mommy boy like Char has a meltdown
pokemon is a gambling game at its core
I FUCKING HATE TURN BASED COMBAT!!!
uwu persona 5 and bg3 my loves
WFM is the best gundam show
1+1 nuke = end of war
You notice that those games have romance options?
Plot is a spook, Gundam works because it's a story about discordant amateurs thrown into the deep end and told to sink or swim. It's a people show.
nostalgia and the best marketing a brand has ever gotten
Depends on how much Zeek faggotry the writer wants to push. I will say Gquacks is shit for having the laziest amounts of changes, while also having to completely rewrite and change Char to make him not a demented revenge seeking gremlin.
post him
A friend of mine hates turn based games but loves playing MTG.
I just recently started watching gundam for the first time, it still looks pretty nice almost half a century later and the story's decent, I've been missing out
has gundam become exponentially more popular recently (2-3 years) or is it just me
I am also a newfag to gundam but I quickly went down the rabbit hole and am now airbrushing model kits
Fotm seasonal yuri anime
Well obviously it'd be the pokemon, most turn based games don't have cute animals to catch
I started watching the '79 series because I got interested in gquuuuuux
that show was why I went down the rabbit hole but it was out of spite because it sucked ass. I had to see how this franchise has survived for so long when all 4 shows I had arbitrarily decided to watch over the years all sucked
But competitive pokemon battling is TOO HARD
all 4 shows I had arbitrarily decided to watch over the years all sucked
Which ones?
to be fair, you can still play during someone else's turn in MTG
wfm IBO g-reco wing
tbf IBO started pretty good but it got incredibly boring in the 2nd half and I dropped it
Gundam as a franchise is self gatekeeping because it has an amazing track record of having an abysmal low for every high. Even the shows that are beloved and cited as the series best either start off incredibly slow or have an ending that is just bad. It works though because since 2018 or so I've spent a small fortune in gunpla.
The universal century stuff is more good than bad, the og series, zeta, the ovas, etc. Thunderbolt was also pretty good if you want something more recent.
Try some of the UC stuff. 0080 War in the Pocket is a short OVA series that you don't need that much to get into and the 0079 film trilogy is lengthy but it has an incredible payoff.
I'll take this gelgoog
I've watched a majority of the franchise at this point. UC was truly a golden goose, hit after hit for 15 years. to me, it's pretty cut and dry that you simply have shit taste if you prefer AU over UC. UC is far from perfect but almost every AU is trash
I'm a third-worlder spic who started with the Switch games so I don't have any nostalgia or Pokemania or whatever. Pokemon's turn-based is quite different than "4 niggas in a row" because it's (mostly) 1v1, obviously not counting double or rotating battles. It's also easier from the get-go compared to other turn-based games where you get overpowered way later in the game. But what does it matter when this thread wasn't even about videogames in the first place.
For me, it's the ReGZ
I'll never stop being weird seeing Pokemon characters in a grimdark dystopian setting.
Sorry sir, all we have is the kwacks version if that's alright
Zeta started alright and had a great ending but holy fucking shit everything that included Katz was pure fucking agony for me. What a piece of shit.
They really do look like nu-Pokemon anime character designs what the fuck lmao
it's literally the pokemon character designer
For me its lt. cannoli
The contrast works though. Also, one of the themes of that is that the world has the capability to be a paradise, but humanity fucked it up. The art design and visual point to what the world should be, and the events and characters are 180 to that.
They bitched and moaned about wanting to control pokemon directly like an action game then they got pokken but they were so casual they couldn't play it
that looks like poo, like she's running in place
It's really a mixed bag because for every Turn A and G Gundam, you have stuff like Reconguista and IBO S2.
Can't wait for Machu to have a full on cyber newtype crash out murder spree.
zeta was insanely good at the start idk what you're talking about
it does such a good job of balancing world building, character interaction and fighting all the way up until the katz shit
the episode where they're fighting in the gravity well of earth is one of the best episodes of a TV show ever made and yes I'm seriously comparing it with shit like game of thrones, the wire etc
a heavily modified GM III with a big dick rifle, head modified to resemble the Gundam MK II, and INCOM versions of the Delta Kai's funnels
color scheme inspired by the Zeta Plus A1
Either something that retardedly specific, or an INCOM MP Nu Gundam.
I still contend that G-reco had one of the greatest animation styles of the digital era. Yeah, the story was clearly a 52 episode story poorly smashed into 26 episodes, but no gundam show since with the exception of certain parts of build fighters has looked as good.
wfm looked very good and had some staggering action at the very end but yes I agree greco looked excellent
kind of a modern redux of the turn A style imo
It's a shame too. IBO and WFM all had generally hand drawn mech stuff but the animation was comparatively workman like.
That scene was kinda awkward, but it's usually pretty good.
I didn't say it was bad, but Kamille is too much of a bitch in early zeta compared to others in his shoes (or much worse) like Amuro and Cosmo.
game of thrones, the wire etc
I don't know how to translate comparing something to hot garbage
ok you are a weeb that's cool
Excuse me, Kamille was very brave for her era. Respect her, she's a proud biogical woman with a woman's name.
Ghiren's Greed series is fucking GOATed and it's criminal bamco doesn't make them anymore
I have fond memories of Front Mission 4.
Now that we're all adults, was Devil Gundam right in wanting to rid humanity for the sake of Earth?
Devil Gundam
you mean char
A custom Zudah that has an engine that won't fuck up please. Seig Zeon.
I've been watching UC. Watched 79, Zeta, and ZZ so far. Been meaning to watch CCA, but I'm not sure if I'm going to watch much more of UC after that. My ignorance of the series (and genre) in general shows that I wasn't aware how much psychic stuff (newtypes) is prevalent in the series. I didn't mind the trait of having essentially heightened awareness/abilities, but the times in the show where the Newtypes just start flexing psychic "power" (Zeta's//ZZ's ending episodes) kind of ruined parts for me. That and plot progression of the shows revolve around characters just acting dumb the whole time (Why does everyone get out of their mobile suits in fights? Why does Beecha and Mondo get away with all the bullshit they pull?) Finishing ZZ was just kind of meh, and so far I think I've surprisingly liked 0079 the best despite its dated look.
No, because that would include destroying Allenby.
yeah
She lives in the space colonies, not Earth.
>but I love pokemon!
That's your problem: Low as fuck standards.
Gundams?
The OVAs, war in the pocket, stardust memory and 08th ms team are all very light on newtype stuff and are more militaristic. Watch those atleast.
don't skip out on the UC OVAs those are excellent and have zero newtype fuckery
I agree that they lost the plot with what a newtype is supposed to represent, especially in ZZ
the ending of zeta to me is highly metaphorical, to me it represents the stranglehold the older generations have on the power structure
Newtype bullshit is the worst aspect of UC desu. It's a lot better in Thunderbolt and the early OVAs.
the gayest post in the thread award goes to you, just say you want the Nu Gundam and be done with it
The newtype concept is fundamental to the UC/Tomino's works. CCA, Victory, and even most of the spin offs have similar gimmicks as well. When it comes to the UC, the OVA series like 8th team, war in the pocket, and stardust memories focus less on newtypes and more on the mechs/characters. Victory also has newtype shit, but it's somewhat more muted. Even a lot of the AUs have similar concepts. X, SEED, IBO, and even With from mercury to an extent have their newtype like gimmicks.
Gundammu
Literally me.
Nuh-uh. I want the Nu Gundam, except mass produced.
yeah anon, we all know you want cock in your special snowflake mouth and up your ass
You're the only one thinking about penises, faggot.
We need some super robots in here...
has gundam become exponentially more popular recently (2-3 years) or is it just me
just you 2bh
the one thing that brough Gundam shittons of popularity was when we got Unicorn, Build Fighters 1, G-Reco and Thunderbolt almost airing and coming out at the same time
I miss G-Reco, I must be one of the handful of people that not only didn't have problems with getting the plot but also loved every second of it
Turn-based games are generally good. It's just that turn-based RPG combat sucks ass.
greco had a lot going for it but the writing seemed like incomprehensible rambling from tomino
this was before I watched the early shit though, I should really give it another go
Zero introspection and curiosity.
greco also had characters pissing all the time, what the fuck was that
Kamille is too much of a bitch in early zeta compared to others in his shoes
Kamille attacks and starts beating up a soldier who was making fun of him, gets beaten when soldier's buddies join in. Gets arrested, escapes when terrorists attack, steals a military secret robot and uses it as a ticket to join a terrorist organization. His transformation from a civilian to a mecha pilot is one of the more aggressive and violent in the series.
Front Mission
webm features quadruped mecha
I never understood why only the first Front Mission game had playable mobile weapons and they were never playable again after that. Piloting them was rad as hell. Shit's fucked up if you ask me.
He really is
When wins over
like half of my friend group gets really into gundam for some reason
lasts like half a year before they realize all the online gundam vidya is either dead, shit, or both, on PC at least
honestly the only reason i didn't get into it myself was because the anime streaming site i was using at the time to try and watch gundam 0079 started buffering constantly
you probably should watch the movies instead, I heard they expand on the plot among other things
Learn to torrent and you will never have this issue ever again.
bros will Kriegsfront be any good?
I've already watched 0079, Z, ZZ, CCA and the OVAs, and I dont know what to watch next.
Any recs?
Every girl on the Ptolemaios bridge was pure sex, but Sumeragi especially
fucking hell dude just torrent anime like every normal human bean, it's not hard
Pokemon battles are for two people - people who don't like normal turn-based combat and those who have SEVERE autism for stat growth statistics and rock-paper-scissors. Anyone inbetween is just going to fall asleep if they're over the age of 13.
00
watch X
Hathaway and F91
Unicorn
want to watch the new series with everyone else
can't help but watch everything in release order
damn my autism I'm barely at ZZ
Pokémon isn’t 4 niggas in a row, it’s its own thing of 1v1 monster collection
It's commendable to not be a secondary, but all in a row is gonna burn you the fuck out, especially when most series after Victory are shit. But you'll also get to experience overlooked kino like After War Gundam X no one talks about ever
he didn't stick around for macky's(who did nothing wrong btw) wild ride
It also has a two niggas in a row mode (which is the official PvP format)
sayla was a smooth operator, holy shit what a babe
dude you reawakening my lust for her
Char even told her Amuro was waiting for her in 0079's last episodes (or is it exclusive to the third Gundam movie? it's been more than a decade ever since I watched the TV series), that is the one line that changed my opinion of Char from "faggot that should be dealt with like the two legged animal he is" to "absolutely broken charismatic man that has had some great moments"
Well I've actually watched 0079, War in the Pocket, IGLOOs, Startdust Memory, Thunderbolt movie comps, and Zeta so far. Love how there are so many side stories to shit and I'm curious what AU and newer series are like.
AU almost all suck
if you like SEED get your dick split
SEED is good.
yes, anon, we know you love semen
Oh yeah I watched 08th MS too and I think it might be my favorite series so far with Stardust Memory have the best animation so far.
I think G Gundam is fucking garbage and I love how some people are rewatching it and finally realizing how bad it always was
All his early aggressiveness is tantamount to a child having a tantrum, attacking everything around him like a retard is exactly what makes him a bitch.
Female or faggot? Show is obviously too manly for you.
Stardust Memory
It might have good animation, but god did I hate the story.
I truly wished all the main characters would die.
its dumb but i love its simple story and flashy combat arts
Gun Evo? Childs play. Real Anon Babbleen mourn the death of Mobile Suit Gundam Online, now that was a fucking game. GBO2 still exists for you, but nihon netcode means it will randomly DC you 80% of the fucking time these days at least on the steam port, my ps4 finally kicked the bucket awhile back so I can't speak for the console versions status
Would the choice not easily be the gelgoog then? It has phenomenal specs for its time
it's fucking garbo with a great premise, it could have been a decent show if they had any resemblance of budget for the animation
not really, all the Gelgoog has for it is better acceleration than the average zeek suit and the beam rifle. its armor is pretty much nonexistent and I really doubt its electronic are as good as the GM with the combat data from the Gundam. so captured GM it is
Which Pokémon anime is this?
Can you really be considered a man if you aren't extremely horny for the Hyaku Shiki 24/7/365?
Kou and Nina were annoying but damn Kou did get fucked over hard. My nigga Keith came out on top.
I noticed a lot of people that say this are also the same people that think the first thing you need to do when you run into an encounter you can't easily beat is to grind.
Pokemon always did a good job at making battles feel fast-paced and intense. A lot of turn-based shit doesn't even show you how much health an enemy has, so it's just like doing the same four moves every turn until the monster suddenly dies.
damn Kou did get fucked over hard
all of the bad shit that happens to Kou is thanks to Kou's own idiocy
helped a zeek fix his mobile armor despite knowing VERY well what the fuck he was working on and the fact that dude was a pilot during the one year war and a very good one a that
could have magdumped Gato but didn't because unless he's in a mobile suit combat situation Uraki has the brainpower of a goldfish
If I were to rewatch Stardust Memories I'd probably find many more such fuckups
helped a zeek fix his mobile armor
I almost shut it off right there, wish I would have honestly
If I were to rewatch Stardust Memories I'd probably find many more such fuckups
The one people tend to remember is stabbing Cima, even though they were on the same side. Also joining up with the Titans.
Pokemon is the deepest, most complex traditional turn-based RPG on the market. Why would anyone want to settle for less?
It's just rock paper scissors with numbers and way more than 3 hands.
you just reminded me that he along with the rest of the feds were explicitly warned not to fire on Cima and her group lol
It's just rock paper scissors
it's not, but I understand thinking that since most turn-based RPGs operate on single, often symmetrial elemental weaknesses.
The Gelgoog shits all over the GM bro, in literally every regard. Weird to mention armour when the GM's got less of it than the Gelgoog.
Element weaknesses are a shit mechanic no matter if they're in a circle or graph. Just being able to win because your attack is the right color isn't fun.
luckily pokemon doesnt work like that
kino
It does for 99% of the game. The series is for 5 year olds. It's not really deep.
the game being easy by virtue of the "beating the story" hurdle being a low bar doesn't really change the depth of the underlying systems
One Gogg with one hand replaced with that of a Juaggu, heavy freezy yard, with a light waves in water camo paint job. And lay that armor on extra thick.
Is it really that different in multiplayer? Is multiplayer a good enough excuse?
yes and yes
pokemon is actually quite deep when you take it seriously because it's far from just smashing attacks at each other and type matchups. you have to worry about statuses and buffs/debuffs across both your team and the opponent's team. moveset knowledge comes into play and predicting moves correctly can win games. you also generally have to have a solid overall composition that doesn't get completely steamrolled by one bad matchup. it's not rocket science but it's pretty fun
Every half-decade Gundam release some season anime slop that sucks ass and motivates a bunch of zoomers to look into classic gundam media.
It happened with the trash heap that was I.B.O
It happened with the lesbian trash heap witch from mercury
And now the new gundam this season is shocker Fucking garbage, and has zoomers seeing what actual good shows from the franchise are like.
this is me but I'm 34 lol
somehow I skipped 00 but gundam has been around my whole life and has basically always sucked as far as I've been aware, had to see what was up
Care to elaborate on how?
I feel like when it comes to JRPGs where gameplay matters you can type that exact text and it would fit. Nothing you described is Pokemon exclusive.
Nothing you described is Pokemon exclusive.
playing versus another human
Stats, types (including multitypes), abilities, moves, items on the character side, status conditions, volatile status conditions, hazards, weather, terrain, priority levels on the battle side - the underlying mechanics allow for incredible depth and their interactions are complex. And in regards to "what is exclusive with Pokemon", the simple answer is volume. I could go on about small things Pokemon gets right compared to other JRPGs, but the big thing is the volume. Building on itself for decades, the amount of mons, moves, items, status effects, mechanics, etc. has only grown and it allows for unparalleled freedom when it comes to strategy and team composition. There are things you can do in Pokemon, gimmicks you can build your team around, win conditions you can work towards that are not present in any other game.
I mean off the top of my head there's the DenpaMen and Dragon Quest Monsters. But there might be something where you call them clones so they don't count. There's also something about how you need a second person to see them in pokemon but they aren't off to the side in others.
Listing every mechanic pokemon has. Most of which aren't even a pokemon thing just part of the genre isn't really convincing me you just never really explored the genre that much.
I don't care about this argument anymore. I'm gonna go. You can take it as a win.
yeah yeah I've heard that before. I've you think Pokemon is the best, surely you can't have played much else.
It works though.
according to whom? I go by vidya balancing and from what I remember it's exactly like what I said before
Gelgoog: paper armor, good acceleration by zeekshit standards (even if the gunpla models say stupid shit like "it's faster than the Gundam", and gunpla manuals in general say plenty of stupid shit specs wise), powerful beam rifle, eh electronics, plus only about 30 of them were ever produced
GM: eh armor, the beam spray gun is good even if not as much as the Gelgoog's beam rifle, even if you don't like the beam spray gun the GM has shitloads of armament options, electronics are great thanks to the Gundam's combat data, the feds shat out gazillions of GMs and has plenty of variants too
also let's take in consideration how the Gelgoog was a dead end and spawned for the most part garbage like the Galbaldy, while the Jegan has a direct lineage to the GM, and also even the Dom spawned some super spicy shit like the Dijeh
Turn A gatekeeps the fags who believe they can apply the word filler to non adaptation anime, thank god because they don't deserve Tominos opus
initiative systems
"you only select the command when you're going to immediately act" is a snoozefest and only for the most lowly casuals
At least name some good western media and not pop slop, tasteless swine
Turn A, 00, or Build Fighters. All are great, just depends on what you're looking for.
Zaku does the job
