[SAD NEWS] Bungie morale is in 'Freefall'

Mobile traffic should be blocked from making new threads
or posting in general.

Why did Bungie lose so badly?

Endless retarded decisions with Destiny

It would've been a failure anyways.

The thing is that Bungie only had one good franchise and it was halo, which went to shit after they gave it away for destiny l.
Destiny was literally never good and marathon looks way worse because it looks like all the bad aspects of destiny with all the bad aspects of all other mp shooter

At the very least Concord came out before dying, this won't even come to stores I'll bet.

Their first mistake was making an extraction shooter.

So now that the news cycle has moved away from Blizzard and Overwatch, this is what they're ragebaiting now?

3.6 billion dollars btw

In general or over something more specific?

So how does Sony look at Concord's flop and the way people are responding to Marathon and Fairgames and not just cancelling this shit?

sony making money moves straight into the toilet

It's definitely going to be "in general".
These guys keep going from blunder to blunder and it's bordering into the legal/criminal now.
Everyone is looking for the new Concord. Bungie and Sony know what it is.

putting

[X NEWS]

should result in a permanent ban

it's so funny reading that the devs told them it needed to have a sp campaign and pete parsons was just like naw.

probably just dump it out and hope the flop isn't as massive as concord so they can gut the c-suite and assume full control of bungie.

I cannot fathom how Bungie tricked Sony this bad. Microsoft hated working with them, Activision hating their partnership so bad they were willing to split for basically pennies. They cannot meet a deadline to save their lives.

How many OG devs that worked on halo are still there?

Maybe Sony Japan believed western vidya was something that it was not. I know that is why Druckmann got so much power earlier on.
They have been scammed brutally.

Bungie only had one good franchise and it was halo

Myth is great and I like it better than Halo. In fact, I've never liked Halo because I'm not from United States.

at least it wasn't a concordillion dollars

if their morale is down imagine the people responsible at sony that bought them for over 3 billion $

Go back. Twitter gossip is as worthless as you are.

I'm enthused Marathon is attacked. That means it's a good thing. Should result in a better product without degenerate filler. Diagusting some scum claimed their worthless icons were responsible for the art , such are unfit and unwilling to contribute, they sould not have been used as mediums to get stuff out. It is a waste of resources to remove the spam, but maybe in the doing something better and more meaningfull is done. Decals are a layer easily destroyed, but problematic if painted on, and built around and from.

Marathon needs better lighting. Surfaces done again could do that. Could make areas fucked by doodles dark, or bright, bleached. And rely on lighting for detail. Done and applied rather than real time, but real time looks good sometimes, eg light moving, light on characters. Changing with perspective. I like 2D for the sake of preserving artistry entirely. But uo close cannbe good to be 3D, for more animations, performances, and that raybtraced lighting to show itself off.

Raytracing makes areas and residents seem more connected. Instead of individual elements. Different surfaces have similar shading. Colours extend and affect more, which changes as they're obsured. Makes places feel more alive.

They have good design. It'd be a waste to see it without good lighting.

Lower res should be enforced.
Then preforated frames, fill missing pixels with guesswork and previous. 30 or more frames required for a full picture in a still image. Motion blur as a result and a couple generations increase in available performance. As well as scene feeling more alive, instead of still and sterile.
Lower res towards edges of the screen. Especialy during aiming. A linear reduction in a circular movement away from centre.
Post process colourisation. To get rid of gradients and make greyscale/white coloured. Greyscale textures and sprites so there can be more of them, and more detail to them.
Bloom colours. Intense.

I think they erroneously believed that Bungie was a studio that couldn't fail, like Naughty Dog, Nintendo EPD, or Fromsoft.

OK...? I assume it was normal or maybe even high before this? Can ask why it was normal/high before? Because if the answer is "We were really hyped about our 'new' game Marathon!!" they are clearly mentally ill.

man if fucking sucks to be working in videogames these days, you're crunched to hell, treat like disposable cattle and online freaks make you the centre of a never ending outrage spiral that just churns forever
I'm glad I dont work in this industry and just play video games..

I'm sure it sucks real bad for them. But do they actually deserve the position they've got within the industry?
Their legacy still grants them a form of super-status within the medium. Even if they're a far cry from where they were when they were at their peak, they're still one of the most famous studios of the industry.

But even though their legacy still grants them a form of super-status. Are they still super-devs? They're not doing a very good job at proving that they are. They haven't been for quite some time.

what the science guys i thought chuds had no power when it came to things like this...

DEI

They don't, it was a strong transfemale who facilitated this when they tried to steal her work.

Did the world really need another concord/hyenas?

glitch naked dogeza is the only way out of this

This literally isn't what happened. Microsoft immediately contracted them for 3 more Halo games after CE. 2 Reach were contractual obligations. By the time Reach came around they all had mentally moved on, so they farted out that PoS and moved on.

get bought out by colossal megacorporation

everyone that was actually important had vestment and is now gigarich and just waiting to fuck off at the first possible moment

just a bunch of corporate scum workers that don't give a single fuck about the final product left actually working

suits mandate impossible product

dgaf workers make vomit

company liquidated

tis an old tale

make it huge with a live service game just as the concept of live service was taking off

now everyone is making live service games and you can no longer compete

They basically did the same thing with Halo as well. Halo 2/3 were right time, right place in terms of making it yuge with the multiplayer. By the time Reach came out they were no longer competitive (with Call of Duty/Battlefield) but were able to pivot with Destiny. Now they're stuck chasing the next fad (extraction shooters - which they're already 3 years too late) instead of being industry leaders.

5-6 years ago when they conceived of this mess, they didnt anticipate that hero shooters would fall out of fashion, that extraction shooters would be as hated as they are, and the live service genre would consolidate into fortnite and cod.

Divine retribution for fucking over a good Christian man.

IMG_4640.png - 397x411, 286.9K

Basically they made a single player gamed labeled as an MMO with Destiny 1, and struggled to make any sort of long term content with it.

They had a contract ongoing to make a sequel, and did, this time putting less effort into the overall meat (gunplay / builds / story) and more effort into the seasonal content in order to make it a true looter shooter skinner box.

Turns out that sucked ass and they didn't know wtf they were doing, and basically just had a series of massive ups and downs with each expansion while continuing to deliver dogshit seasonal content. This all only went on because the sunk cost fallacy players (including me) wanted to finally see the fucking story that had been ongoing since D1 END, and it ended in the most generic Marvel way possible while gaslighting you into thinking D2 was ever good in the first place with nostalgia bait.

Also ever since Bungie left Activision in 2018 or whatever they've been utterly plagued by complete executive incompetence

Unironically poor hiring practices. They pretty much only hired women and minorities for years. The general standard of talent at the company cratered, and much of the most competent staff had already left by the time Destiny 2 launched. Left with retards to manage the software who couldn't somehow figure out how to manage kiddie pooled sized map data and had to literally remove content from the game to keep it under 200GB of files. Actual retards.

The only thing that they could manage with Marathon was copy pasting the D2 code and re-doing the art assets and copying Tarkov.

They initially partnered with Activision who were just as guilty with ruining Destiny as nuBungie, by the time they parted ways what remained were no better than nuBlizzard and only then resorted to Sony's buyout.

You glazed over a decade of stupid shit bungie has done in their Destiny era (2010-2025) which is longer than their entire Halo era (2001-2010). the least of which included dumping all of their senior staff and replacing them with yes men.

more like good news
next time don't shit on your IP like this

Well the game must be HARD to nail.
The series is very complex, especially Durandal and Infinity.

It must be melting their minds maybe.
So this new game must be good if they're melting their brains. That's the mindset to make this absolute madness.

I read this in Durandal's voice

announce shit game

people tell you its shit

showcase shit gameplay of shit game

people tell you its shit

morale is in free fall guise!

i wonder why

It's extremely baffling that Bungie didnt take the Sony money and start working on a future proofed Destiny 3 where it follows it's original design and intent they couldnt do a decade ago when the game was first thought out. Instead they sent people to work on an extraction shooter with stolen art. Destiny 3 alone would be enough to sustain them for a long time but instead they decided not to do anything about it.

I cannot fathom how Bungie tricked Sony this bad

Oh that's easy, they had 3-4 projects going at once (at the time) to inflate their value
once the deal was done each project was canned over the course of the years.

Marathon is literally the result of Sony's executives questioning their purchase, and the latest scandal might cause things to go south much faster

the best Destiny expansions were made by Activision's own studios in order to cover up the constant delays and problems Bungie was having with their own game.

Marathon's been needing a remake for over 3 decades and it built both Halo and Destiny.
But really, the biggest bone I have to pick with them is not remaking the prequel to Marathon, Pathways, first.

spooky.png - 640x480, 342.33K

Get caught plagiarizing art assets with Marathon

they plagiarized art assets with destiny as well

OH BOY.

quick, appeal to troons so we get them to shill the game on social media for us

Some people consider them in the same universe canonically until 343 tried to wipe the assets out of Halo.

Please please PLEASE release the game and pour a fuckton of money into its living corpse. It would be so fucking funny if Sony did that. PLEASE do it with Fairgame$ as well PLEASE SONY.

Pathways is cool but dungeon crawlers are extremely niche. Ironically the only big dungeon crawler I can think of is Dark and Darker, which is an extraction game.

Modern Bungie is on the same level as Unity asset flip game studios. They should feel bad.

well according to marathon infinity anything goes since the protagonist got access to the forge and can just fabric realities and shit

That's not what the end of Infinity means no matter what mandalore thinks

be gaming dev

work your ass off to get hired in a super competietive market

finally gets hired in one of the biggest studios that made games you love

"oh boy I can finally make games"

mfw half the workers are indians

mfw all the top people are DEI hires

mfw there's some obnoxious feminist cunt that got hired for no reason at all acting all obnoxious getting to decided how the game should be designed

I've never seen a game fail before release quite like Marathon. The game doesn't believe in itself. You can feel the staff's disillusionment and lack of faith in it every time you look at it. Beyond the aesthetic itself, there doesn't seem to be a spark or impetus for it's creation. Which is fucking side splitting given current events. The game genuinely feels like it doesn't want to exist.

Concord, Hyenas, and all the other live service flops all had an ego to them. Like they were here, and YOU'RE gonna have to deal with it. Then died pathetically because their energy was repulsive to the audience. Marathon is like a baby being born with the sole desire to grow up just enough so it can find a gun and shoot itself in the head at the earliest possible chance.

Everyone besides Destiny channels that shill for Bungie can see that the writing is on the wall. There’s absolutely no way that it will be a success.

Even all the Destiny channels are shitting on them

Pure unfiltered vindication he must be feeling looking at this clown fiesta.

reportedly

Man.
As a fan of Bungie era Halo
All this Bungie news feels like hearing bad news about your ex.
It sucks man

the death of AAA can't come fast enough. we need more games developed by smaller teams with less budget sold at a lower price. the dev teams need to be led (as in, Leader) by a man with a vision, not a table of suits who don't play video games.

You'd think during the creation process someone would have noticed how bad the game looked and they could have corpse corrected but the fact no one spoke up and they just powers through the slip says all I need to know, they were retarded and couldn't see this was pretty fucking bland and boring looking as well as terrible art style and design. Fuck around and found out ig

the cyber egirl aesthetic with the funky menus were the most intriguing parts if you subtract the DEI feminism and it seems it was stolen lmao. Also the gameplay and in game graphics looked like a shitty fortnite/apex, with nothing new or interesting being added. Arc raiders won this one.

steal someones creation

get caught

get called out

"guys our morale is so bad, we feel sad!"

These people are children. There's not even any self-reflection, just attempts to guilt others into not judging them.

Their first mistake was getting bought by Sony

This
it's like they don't even look at what they make internally

We were robbed of Hyenas

I feel the same way about Bioware.

Cut their teeth on PC

Microsoft gives them the time of day

Release some absolute bangers for Xbox and Xbox 360

The people who made Bioware what it was slowly leave the company over time

The diversity hires who replace them are incompetent AF and quality suffers as a result

To say nothing of the corporate powers that be who enable the enshittification to begin with

Bioware in 2025 have all but officially died

In fact, they've been trash for just as long as they've been good by this point in time.

Who gives a shit about their *legacy* when that foundation was built exclusively by people that aren't even there anymore. Its a Ship of Theseus that resembles a rubber duck more than a boat by this point

Sony wanted into the live service business bad and Bungie had a successful example of the genre. Simple as.

Who gives a shit about their *legacy*

Why do you think we're talking about Bungie at all? It certainly isn't because of what they've been doing currently or recently.

b-b-but it is what because of what they're doing currently! They made a shit game and have been caught stealing art!

And none would give a single fuck if not for their prior legacy. If these were no-name devs with no legacy, the game wouldn't even be famous enough for people to talk about it at all.

I am convinced that Microsoft was legit tard wrangling them, or that 343 was the result of Bungie getting split in half resulting in neither company knowing what to do.

who

This is more of a problem with western tech companies in general. The goal of a big western company is to sell out to a bigger company, do what you're contractually obliged to do and then dip out with your bag. Japanese companies however only respect long term stability. This is how you get guys like Kojima, Nomura, and others who have been in the industry 40+ years while the average western game developer has about the same lifespan of a mayfly in comparison no matter their contributions to the medium.

If they had made a single player game with the aesthetic in that promo trailer everyone would be falling over themselves to play it, instead they are going to get shut down. It feels kind of amazing to see so many greedy, cynical corporate money grabs fail so spectacularly one after the other.

Destiny was literally never good

Destiny 2 is the best coop fps ever made.

watch sony file a lawsuit against them, 3.6 BIL

WHERE THE FUCK DID THE MONEY GO

Well I'm not shocked that covid melted the brains of the old crew of Bungie given the clusterfuck lore of their past franchises.
They probably just got completely jaded to making anything when the system around became a clown shitfest that they, like all us, felt like they didn't want to be a part of no more.

yeah for the small price of $200 + season pass + dungeon key

LOL

they weren't satisfied with halo, fools.

How soon is the video game crash? Because it can't happen soon enough.

get caught doing the laziest thing you can possibly do despite being a 1000+ employee first party giga studio

please feel bad for us

them taking out public voice chat and gave the excuse of "making a safe community" killed it for me

Demonized all the straight guys that made their games good to begin with.

Can they even sue Bungie if they own it?
And who exactly would they sue? The people that got the money surely got the fuck out by now.

Because they wanted to branch out Halo, did so with Destiny, and then didn't realize they got incredibly lucky with Destiny succeeding while making terrible decisions with the game repeatedly. "Vaulting" content was one of the dumbest things they could have ever done to the game and should have had you simply choose to download the content if you wanted to play it, many of the expansions they made were very poorly done or worse than others, and in general they've been on a downward spiral since selling themselves to Activision and especially Sony.

The worst thing is that their community managers, their devs, and their PR department are absolutely terrible at their jobs which is why we have that GDC talk that says devs need to make less content to sell for the same amount of money not to increase expectations.

Well have they considered actually working on their games and making them good?

a lawsuit for what? Sony bought them and a giant contingent of their workforce is sony contractors
bungie even making marathon in the first place was almost certainly a directive that sony gave them. They are both equally responsible for this shitshow

What everybody else is saying, but they also drank deep from the forbidden well of retarded ideology.

You didn't actually played the game, did you

And all they do is attack indie artists on twitter all day long at the office

Who gives a shit about their *legacy*

Sony? That's why they thought 3.6 billion was a reasonable price.

They still had hope, even before the beta release? color me surprised

I can't believe Sony paid more for Bungie than Microsoft did for Minecraft.

Bungie morale

AKA woke fatigue.

Are we still pretending DEI commie antifa libtards are good for business? Or have you learned.

it hurts just a little bit.

i did not believe the game would really pan out well one way or another. i was already disillusioned from destiny 2 and other bungie bungles over the years. but the cinematic trailer, the (stolen) art style, the music really hooked in my mind for a brief time, and for that brief time i allowed myself to wonder what it might be like if marathon were good.

what a fool i was, to peer through the cracks in those walls i built. i won't let them fool me again.

I hope people who actually like marathon's shitty artstyle see thorough failures in their lives similar to Bungie. It is actual garbage.

Bungie captures lightning in a bottle under Microsoft

hailed as a beacon of the gaming sphere

split off from Microsoft to work under Activision

they suddenly shit the bed

everyone assumes it's obviously because >Activision

split off from Activision

they somehow shit the bed even harder

come under Sony's ownership

Bungie leadership literally self immolating their own company to prevent Sony from taking control

The realization that Bungie was truly the core of their own problems and not the work of publishing sabotage still haunts me
I will never fall for something like that again

It's legitimately befuddling to me that a team of highly-paid, Western artists would make the design decisions that these guys did.

paid extremely well by a large, renowned company

all you have to do is create and cohere to an attractive artstyle (a job that's the envy of fucking millions)

rather than actually create something beautiful, the team somehow comes to the agreement that an ugly, vector-adjacent slop artstyle is good

(btw it's stolen, but i imagine the team member(s) who introduced it didn't let that on)

nobody on the team has any better ideas?

This part is the most confusing to me. How does a team of highly-paid artists whose portfolios are good enough to work at Bungie not produce an artstyle better than this independent, unemployed, boring fuck artist? How does an entire team just let this by without caring? Who decided that this was what they were going with for their new, tens-of-millions-of-dollars budget IP? It's fucking clown vomit, staggeringly ugly.

team probably sends it up

somehow it gets approved?? no test audience?? why is it so ugly??

nobody catches that it's stolen despite the art having signatures plastered over it

full team commits to this garbage for literal years

tens of thousands of man-hours spent on a project whose foundation is genuinely just stolen trite

end product doesn't even look desirable or fun, looks like the same copy-paste, ununique, indistinguishable and mediocre slop that's shown every year at the game awards (all of these games are subsequently unplayed and forgotten)

tens of thousands of man-hours are immediately shown to be a waste, the day it's released to the public

It's so fucking gross. If I worked there as a programmer or a writer, I'd feel so betrayed. Art is so ingenuine, practically dead in AAA gaming. It may as well be dead.

Slowly lost talent post xbox. Prioritized being woke as fuck over quality. Became fat, slow and incompetent, moreso after trying to follow up with anything post halo. Unwilling to recognize crucial flaws with Destiny or fix them or prepare for the next game.

There are some of their employees who spent more time last dev cycle trying to shut down Anon Babble than trying to make good games and it shows.

Arrogance. There are plenty of devs out there who are greedy or retarded, but there are very, very few developers who radiate an aura of conceitedness like Bungie does. They're still high on their own farts over games they released decades ago.

I'm just going with the "execs are deliberately sabotaging the game for their own personal benefit" theory, in lieu of anything better.

It's a culture of everyone involved being afraid to say "no" because they hired all their friends.

DEI faggots

leaning

anyone worth a shit left the company a long LONG time ago
everyone left are just people who are there for the "process" rather than making anything meaningful which is how shit like that slips through despite bungie being like a 1000 employee company. Nobody there cares, just churn out product, we have sony deadlines

I played your mom last night

go back to xitter

They were asking for it

trying to reboot an obscure cult classic

make it all modern and pozzed

What the fuck did they blow all the money on if it's been in development for, what, 7 years, and they're having to rush it out the door and copy-paste art assets from twitter? Has this been rebooted like 5 times or what?

Because they're fucking greedy Jews. Cancelling at this point would get them nothing while releasing it will get some scraps from people who'll make YouTube videos and streams about it and never touch it again.

How would they benefit?

no test audience??

there probably was but it's easy to "guide" it towards a certain outcome or otherwise dismiss certain negatives as "made in bad faith" or whatever. i bet that's standard practice today looking at the creative output of these western studios

Becuase they never were good.

Marathon's only claim to fame was being a Mac Doom clone (but shitty). That is LITERALLY it.

Pathways Into Darkness is their ONLY decent game from that era. Oni is the only good Pre-Halo Post-Mac title.

Too big to be able to parse information.

too big and lumbering to do anything with it if they could, Megacorps and Empires are all like this in the end, they become too big to function, then collapse spectacularly under their own weight.

Why didn't they just make a game that people wanted to play then?

(extraction shooters - which they're already 3 years too late)

Even other ones were too late. Tarkov is the only popular one and even THAT is Niche.

It's not a PUBG situation where an unknown game/genre pops-up and explodes. It was "popular" with a niche group, and folks thought they could mine it like PUBG but it fizzled out BEFORE that point.

and I say.

SUFFAH video game dev.

something about the engine and their overall output made content release for D1 and D2 mega slow, like, the amount of shit from an expansion was 1/16th what you get from say, a WoW expac.

they never got "better", and only got more stingy.

they saw that the current trend was mediocre cartoony stuff like apex and fortnite and decided to cash in. This would have been a great artstyle in 2005-2008 though. Along with team fortress 2 and mirrors edge.

Bungie Defense force status?

it sucks that they spent all their time post Halo making looter shooter trash.

tfw watching a husked bungie finally crash and burn

hopefully the company dies and the thousand+ deadweight soulless fucks go somewhere else to ruin.

yea it was absolutely a product made with a gun to the head of everyone involved.

I've never seen it, at such a scale, hundreds of millions for a game they hate making and just utilized all their D2 assets as shittily as possible to do it.

He thinks it has anything to do with the Doom-clone Marathon

OH NO NO NO

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Nobody tell this Mac gamer it's a reboot with no lore because it's an extraction shooter. The only "ties" are the UESC or whatever and that's it.

its not shitty fortnite, its shitty Destiny 2, literally, they used all the attack animations, gun animations, fire rates, gun frames.. ect from D2.

just put new models on them, I had over 1200 hours in D2 before I couldn't take it anymore, did they think they could fool me? I saw a Titan punch, a Rapid-Fire scout ect ect in the gameplay trailer, its 1 to 1.

Bungie execs are awful people who lucked into their way of controlling an influential game company like Bungie and beat the shit out of anyone with talent and enforce their vision over anything else so the remaining people can only just say yes to their demands and not do anything of their own.

it was the random unnamed person's fault, not the art director!

these are no name dev's, they are just working at a place long ago good dev's worked.

people's bizarre idea on Corps being the same entity (in any way) as years prior continues to confound me.

its like they, in their heads, have "Bungie" as a singular, being.

Trans rights are human rights, Rebel scum!

*Lightsabers robo-dick off with the saber cauterizing the wound immediately*

well probably 60 people actually do any real work there, the rest are all make-work faggots.

such is the case for basically.. well everywhere.

The game genuinely feels like it doesn't want to exist.

I feel it's mostly Bungle trying to renew the I.P. trademarks and copywrite as it's LITERALLY (within the next month or two) coming up on 30 years and that's around when copywrite expires and most things (not Disney, obv.) goes public domain.

It all truly went to shit here

Anyone blaming Microsoft or Activision for Bungie's failures is lying to themselves. The only reason they got anything done was because larger companies were cracking the whip and keeping them in line

plenty of studios have thrived under activision despite them being complete turbojews
that one has always been a cope. Bungie has just gotten worse and worse every time they get bought

correction

Hired Portlandia faggots, troons, and Jeets all of which are higher ont he progressive stack than the competent people

making them an untouchable class that gets to wreck havoc on the company and its products.

these are no name dev's, they are just working at a place long ago good dev's worked.

That was the point. The devs that now make up Bungie are piggybacking off of Bungie's legacy from when stronger devs were steering the ship.

I'm sure those extra 0.1% sales will be worth the culture damage we're doing to the studio!

Nah fuck the game let it die. Extraction shooters are too niche and tarkov is doing a fine job covering it

Wasn't this Marathon too?

morale

If i was working at Bungie right now, i'd already be looking for a new job.

have you been paying attention to Corpo-America for the last 20 years?

80% of the people do absolutely nothing, or are net-negatives, 20% of the people do all the work, and it breaks them hard.

the 80/20 rule is absolute in nature, and human civilization, briefly it can be abated and places can function beyond normal human limits (80/20) when morale is high, but morale is not high in America, so back to our base nature we go.

Yes. Owners can sue their own companies, that includes parent companies suing subsidiary companies.

That said it rarely happens since it's a better look to just sack everyone instead.

Yes, but are the vibes okay at least?
