indie JRPG showcase
they all look bad
Why do indie devs struggle with this genre so much

Their only frame of reference for how to create anything is games from their childhood. They have no stories to tell or unique ideas to realize so the end result is a bunch of interchangeable garbage.
They're also not Japanese.
they are derivative and soulless
Half of them are Chinese
Most of them seem acceptable to me from an artistic point of view.
Well yeah they're JRPGs
JRPGs
none of them made in Japan
J
somehow, I doubt that
A lot of them look fine but making a traditional RPG is harder than it looks. You don't have fun gameplay input to fall back on since it's all menu mashing. Most of them will come up with garbage systems and I can bet over half of them will include obnoxious action commands to try to "stand out".
what do you guys want from them? just big titty waifu parties? even our most beloved jrpgs weren't like that. i'm not sure what the cynics are hoping for.
monster catcher game
NINTENDO. NINTENDO HELP
Several of them are at least visually interesting if not quite nice looking. The ones that get popular here aren't great anyway and good ones get overlooked.
I don't think the devs making these games actually enjoy turn based combat and just want to show off an artstyle or story because thats what FF does.
another pathetic loser who can't think for himself.
you deserve nothing besides your shitty showcases. real gamers go out and find what they want, they don't sit around and be told what to play.
they're all made by people who hate japan and the genre or by actual japanese people who made rpgmaker slop
Artis Impact looks pretty neat
its the only one im really excited for. i talked to the creator on twitter, he seems pretty chill. it has a demo that was kino
2017 the ring is my favorite japanese horror movie
Most rpgs are terrible because most people who make them have no life experience outside of a little bubble but want to do a story with a huge scope and big world. They bite off more than they can chew and refuse to do research.
Any of these made for autistics like Horizon's Gate and Crystal Project or is it all Paper Mario and FF clones
what if Nier but pixel shit
Ever see Noroi?
that's not even pixel art.
it's pixel shit. no artistic talent what so ever.
I loved the demo. It's got such fluid animation.
incompetent messy pixel shit
clashing non-pixelart background
mixels (literally every object is a different pixel size)
Even the menu clashes
What's wrong with making a spiritual sequel for a game the parent company refuses to make despite there being obvious demand for it?
Games don't need sequels
The problem is that they’re all shit and devoid of any creativity
Why can't someone at least clone a different game for a change? Give me an indie clone of Soul Blazer or 7th Saga or something.
I'll just wait for Andrew's new game.
Here's your Valkyrie Profile clone bro
We need a Xenogears successor
If those are JRPGs, baldur's gate 3 is a jrpg lol
already saw a parry mechanic just in the trailer
how powerful does your computer have to be to play modern 2d rpgs?
can i play them on a laptop from 13 years ago?
Oh no games are looking different! Oh the horror!
you think the shit AAA is pumping out is somehow better? give me a break
This looks horrid.
Just like Black Souls…
I saw one that looked like Paper Mario
Always give those games a look since Nintendo doesn't do it right anymore.
Yeah so did Octopath traveler.
the only thing that makes this look better is the cleaner, more readable pixel art and the fact that shadows aren't pitch black.
But look at those dithered UE5 artifacts on the Depth of field blur. Horrible.
that grass is garbage too.
THEY ARE NOT JAPANESE
ARE
NOT
JAPANESE
Still mad they fucked this up
