Everytime I think about replaying this I remember the Hollywood Sewers and the last stretch of the game after Chinatown. Still want to bang this malk every time I see her though

you can skip the sewers with the plus patch, and it also cuts down on a lot of the post-chinatown shit like completely changing the Sabbat Dungeon to be a single Hotel Lobby that takes maybe 5 minutes as opposed to the hour or two long slog it is in the normal game

Currently reading Reckoning of New York, is it just me or have these recent VtM games really downplayed how ugly the Nossies are? The two examples off the top of my head look just kinda odd, but that's it.

Blame v5
Plagued with development issues and inflicted with Agenda Cancer, they streamlines and neutered the setting by "Smoothing out those offensive rough edges" that made the setting what it was. The World of Darkness is FUCKED UP, that's the point. But like many modern developers taking over IP they know nothing about and care nothing for, they missed that point by a fucking mile.

Now they have amazingly *Somewhat* realized their blunder and reacted not idiotically to the backlash of going woke before they go broke so newer stuff isn't AS bad. Still not great but not as bad as it could be. But yeah, V5 was a bit of a shit show almost all around and it's smell still lingers to this day.

iirc they tweaked the lore so that the Noss curse can partly manifest as a vague unease in nearby people, or as an unexplainable impulse to dislike or feel repulsed by the Nossie if he isn't obviously ugly. I guess it was to give players and hired artists more freedom to design their characters. Or maybe they felt the cartoony zombie-looking guys from the Bloodlines era didn't fit with the vibe they were going for in the Paradox era.

He could be using Mask of a Thousand Faces; it lets those with obfuscate disguise themselves instead of turning "invisible" like it normally does. (Obfuscate doesn't actually hide or change anything physically but rather affects people's perception of the user or what the user is using it on. It's actually a mental discipline.)

A lot of Nos use it to appear normal to deceive or simply avoid breaking the masquerade when in public.

Agreed for the most part, though you can see some really fucked up people on the New York subway so that's not exactly the highest bar. Like rural Walmarts... I don't think every Nos has to look like a burn victims corpse but there always has to be something distinctly Not Human and Wrong about them.

Like one of my favorite characters to play is a Nos that had her curse centralized to almost entirely one part of their body, with the rest seeming mostly normal human, if one with bad skin. (There's precedent for it thanks to that luchador Nos cage fighter.) Her name is Melly but everyone calls her bear trap or shark face, as that centralized point is her mouth. (Think Mortal Combat's Mileena if she was a mousey little NEET girl) With a scarf or some kind of covering she's good, but once uncovered it an INSTANT Masq breach if any kine are around. She's always a fun character.

Nos playthrough isn't that great. It messes with some of the cutscenes, you're barred from some quests and you don't get cool clan-related stuff until late game.
That's actually always been the case. Even in 2nd Ed/Revised, not every Nosferatu had to look like the monster in the Murnau film or even noticeably disfigured. You could make a Nosferatu that has seemingly human features but looks so absolutely menacing that they have an Appearance score of 0.
