I've been making sleeping dogs threads multiple times a week since the past 10 years
My Hong Kong fiancée hated it, not only because it doesn't remotely resemble the real place at all, but also because of it being extremely violent. Didn't stop me from 100%ing it twice.
But the map is laughably bad to it being 0% accurate, which was notable when I went there in person. Twice.
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is better in terms of Hong Kong Island, except they have a retarded mile high hotel in the middle of the Island which replaced Causeway Bay, Kowloon and New Territories is too far away, and there is no Peak or Ocean Park.
But I drove to all of the places I been to in real life, and even showed my fiancée the flat she lived in as it was depicted in that game.

What's inaccurate about it, out of curiosity? Is it just the size, placement of buildings, roads, certain landmarks, or is it completely out of touch with what would or would not be in a place like that?

I just want a criminal investigation into why we never got a sequel. I know about Triad Wars, that makes it even worse, like it was direct sabotage for a Sleeping Dogs 2. I'm not even saying it's the best game ever made, it's not, but it seems so incredibly sequel worthy.

The 'remaster' his a half-assed port to newer consoles that misses a bunch of graphics effects. The only thing improved is that newer consoles received the the high PC presets of the original (with missing effects ect).
Either find a key for the original somehow or pirate it. Not like the studio is getting money for the game either way.
As far as I know, the Triads were a legitimate issue in the poor parts of Hong Kong during the 50s/60s. I'm guessing your fiancee isn't old enough to remember that.

Also, there is no MTR, tram busses, no malls anywhere (and I been to at least 20 of them there, since it has the most malls of any city in the world, sometimes just passing through to get to the other side), the "Peak" resembles nothing like it's real self, no Victoria Harbor(meaning no Kowloon or New Territories to be seen), no Times Square or SoGo (Which resembles more of New York's Times Square than Hong Kong's Times Square), no Ocean Park (or a lawyer friendly equivalent), no actual mountains to the side of the buildings absolutely 0 of the same road layouts, and maybe 10% of its actual size if I am being generous with that.

nu-Saints Row flopping doomed open world GTA-likes. Suits think it means people are uninterested in the genre, not that they were turned off by how neutered it all was.
As a New Yorker I had the same experience playing GTA IV. It cut a lot of the City out, but it was a kick seeing a bit of my neighborhood in it.
Took me years to figure out this was a spiritual successor to True Crimes Streets of LA

I've been to Hong Kong and it's not just city like it's got a lot of hills mountains and is by the water. The game had none of that. It looked like a big New York China town

Liberty City was a parody of New York City.
But they made the Bronx (Bohan) too small. Only been to New York several times, and Bronx Zoo once (on a bus trip), and was expecting to get shot.
Rockstar should have made that area at least 4 times as large, and much more terrifying to be in at any time.
I'm not ashamed to confess I had more fun with this game and its braindead combat system than any GTA I've ever played
And the real life Peak doesn't even resemble that. The Peak looks like a Wok bowl, and is a gigantic mall (and houses the only Burger King in the city for what it's worth, but they have actual resraurants there as well (we ate at the Bubba Gump there), as well as luxury retailers and several other things like a Madame Tussauds). And rooftop access as well. And we took the train up the mountain there.
And I do mean it's a gigantic mall. And unlike the game it's open every single day.
