Romancing Saga 2

You wouldn't really abandon your empire for a mermaid, right?

mermaid.png - 1920x1080, 2.27M

I like the other fish more.
I'll try giving her bows next time. It's kind of pointless since the dancer already covers the niche of fast dex user but there's no reason I can't use both.

Tell me about Kzinssie, why the other Heroes hate him so much?

Is dantarg supposed to be mathematically impossible to beat the first time you find him?

In the last thread someone beat Dantarg and Noel with Gerard.
But you can also lose to Dantarg at the start of the game and continue on without a game over.

You can beat him but its generally better to lose since its one of the rare fights where you dont get penalized as hard for wiping.

Yeah i just ate the loss and kept going, he fucking spammed a party wide attack that did over 60% hp to everyone, and afaik this game doesnt have party wide heal spells? How are you meant to fight him? From what i can tell formations dont matter for this because even in imperial cross the rear unit still gets hit by the charge

I did, he was on his 2nd form.
If you let him keep grinding (or lose to him) he gets even stronger later.

dantarg.png - 1920x1080, 3.02M

I beat him with Emperor Beaver in the second generation without any trouble.

Just spam wind moves and guard in a defensive stance.

What difficulty level would you recommend for a gamer girl who isn't very confident in her skills and hates getting game over?

After 3 generations got their ass kicked I finally defeated Dantarg

TOTAL TERMITES DEATH

Should I do Cumberland or Corsair quest first. I timeskipped to my first generic Emperor.

The only reason this chad didn't end the Termine colony on his own was because it happened before he was born

I was able to do both in the same gen

Give everyone wind magic and learn the absorb hp spell. Heal yourself while doing damage and also keeps the earth aura down

Well that would be the key, the hard part would be getting the wind skill and the spell on everyone, i dont think im killing him this generation lmfao

You don't NEED the wind spell really, but everyone should have some form of healing. Just defend and heal when he does the AoE, it's marked with the ! symbol so you know it's coming. He can use it a couple times in a row but he should stop. Eventually.

There's at least one party heal, but I don't remember where the book's from.

file.png - 676x984, 970.9K

How do you even use the books? I got 2 of them.

What's the purpose of the Abdication feature? In the previous thread, anon was talking about using it just to unlock formations, but when and why would someone playing the game blind choose to abdicate? Is it just to ditch an emperor with low LP or a class you don't like?
I want more formations, but my immersion autism is against the idea of seeing a successful emperor unnecessarily abdicate the throne.

the Incantation Lab

I would make 1/4 fishkids

Lv.2 Incantation lab.

Is it just to ditch an emperor with low LP or a class you don't like?

pretty much. You're going to be playing the game multiple times if you want to get everything anyway so there's no real need to metagame it for formations on a first playthrough

No real use other than letting you burn through candidates faster to force early final emperor runs

afaik this game doesnt have party wide heal spells?

they made one for this remake which is also very broken

How are you meant to fight him?

OD spam+Berserk like every single boss in the game until Expert and above where you switch Berserk for Shadow Servant, also in this version of the game Dantarg is scripted to appear at the eastern subterrane so you can come to him later and kill him easily with better gear and Light Wall

Is there a NG+ that carries over my formations?

yes

Am I correct that Minstrel's Song is basically the Romancing SaGa HD2D remake for he first game, right? So SaGa 2 basically comes after that so its better playing it after that one?

One use is if you notice you need an Emperor in a different class/gender to do some quest in the same generation. An example is that you want a Corsair to cross the Comroon strait, and after that you may want to switch to a female class to get the early recruit of the Amazons.
It can also be used if you unlock a class midway through a generation and want to use it right away. This is particularly useful with Coppelia, who if one of your party members can't be directly controlled, but if turned into the Empress can be.

You have to burn through every possible canditate to unlock Final Emperor early. Even if you abdicate in every possible generation, you are never going to realistically get the FE that way without other intentional suicides.
Its one formation per class + Coppelia and IIRC FE, so that's only ~10 generations to get everything.

yes you can abdicate to put a character you want in the throne if you don't like the choices you got after a generation skip. Or to replace an emperor that's low on LP.
Even if you ignore the formations and weapon levels you can obtain you might want a corsair emperor to pioneer a naval route, or a male emperor to fuck the fish, or a female empress to reach the amazon village.

The first SaGa game is The Final Fantasy Legend (gameboy), which has a remake for the wonderswan
SaGa 2&3 have remakes on the DS
Romancing SaGa 1 = Minstrel Song
This one is Romancing SaGa 2. They're all standalone and this is probably the best introduction to the series.

Minstrel Song is no lousy HD2D remake, it's a full remake that is also the mechanical apex of the series up to that point.
SaGa 2 is a gameboy game, I know you meant Romancing SaGa 2 but if you say SaGa 1/2/3 then you're referring to the GB trilogy, the ROMANCING SaGa is another trilogy so refer to them properly to avoid confusion.
There's no continuity between game entries so you can play them in whichever order you like

man I played the shit out of the ff legends games on gameboy

dread queen music

Corsair for Comroon
Female for Amazons
Male for Mermaids
Coppelia as Empress
Wild Emperor such as Vagabond for the optimal variation of the Pirate quest

Is Corsair the only "maritime" emperor option? It hasn't been coming up in my emperor selections.

All Emperors can access the wild route of Mobeln questline now, the old personality system does not exist anymore.

Did you make the corsairs submit to you? If you resolve the quest a different way they don't join until later.

Sometimes you just get unlucky. It took a decent while for me to get a corsair emp in my first remake run

He is really easy to beat if you just keep him debuffed with Bonecrusher.

there isn't male and female variant for every class

lame

You will never, EVER be a woman

Always have been.

plz be in toba

I've got Noel, Subier, Bokohn and Wagnas left.
Do any of them lock significant content if I leave them for the Final Emperor?

What is this expression meant to convey?

start mermaid sidequest

oh hey, I can abdicate and become the cute thief girl empress, cool

do some other shit, try the Canal quest again, it still wants to timeskip me, but I just changed emperors, so reload, go to witch' place, there's nothing there

???

mermaid sidequest is gone

You can only do it as a male??
Fuck, thank god I made a safety safe before abdicating, because when I got myself killed to turn into a male emperor again, the quest didn't come back.
I did lose an hour of progress though, fuck that.

It's male only and you also have to finish it from beginning to end in a single generation.
If you change emperors due to abdication or timeskip the quest fails.

Are there more quests like that?
I initially did the Canal quest first in the beginning, and immediately got a timeskip, which annoyed the shit out of me, so i reloaded, did a ton of stuff until I got to the mine, and completing that also timeskipped me ( i fucked up the martial artist quest too, and because i could reload to hand in the quest i could get the martial artist there ), and doing that also semi-broke the thief quest, but I was able to obtain the thief anyways by redoing the sewer quest part.
I guess I'll just focus on the mermaid quest now, and try to figure out what I lost in that one hour.
At least I did beat that centaur guy.

I've played Final Fantasy Legend III on the Gameboy. (SaGa 3: Jikuu no Hasha according to google)
Where do I go from here? Do I just play Final Fantasy Legend 1 and 2? What do I play after those?

Faye.jpg - 250x405, 61.34K

I know that both Cumberland and the Comroon volcano quests fail if you leave the area they're in before finishing them.

Yes.
Bokohn and Wagnas lock classes and fusion spells if you leave them for Final Emperor. Noel also locks a class unless you made peace with him before you killed his sister.
Only Subier doesn't lock anything as far as I know..

Okay where the fuck is the third chest in Hofah, shit's driving me crazy

It's behind the fireplace in the school.
Apparently you can only get it if you let Cumberland fall to ruin.

Doesn't Subier lock the diver class?

I did

bros where do I get some good bows? my strongest one is the elder bow

can you inherit or learn skills glimmered from weapons?
I just learned the exorcism skill from the greatsword

yes but you'll need to have the required level for that weapon

Go to the Savannah, then Ostro. Complete the quest there to recruit the Hunter, which unlocks Bows in the forge.

Yeah, techs you spark in one generation can be relearned in the next.

I mean the weapon specific unique skills, can those be learned next generation too?

i will do everything for her
no you just need to kill the boss on sunken ship then talk to her again

I'm still mad they took the lazy way out and just gave the Nereids legs instead of animating them slithering around with their tails like in the SNES version.

Looks like he hates children and is trying to not strike Thomas for having an opinion

In the stage play he's always creeping on Rockbouquet and is generally a scummy dude.

Play whatever you want, they're not connected. You can play the romancing saga 2 remake without any prior experience with the series.
If you played FFL3 a long time ago you might be interested in trying the DS remake, which is fan translated

As soon as you learn the weapon unique skill, anyone can use it. No need to wait a generation

Oh, ok, so that's how it works.
For some reason I thought with how the game explained it, the skills could only be used while you're using said equipment, but i guess that's the innate skills like final strike then.

There tons more animations they have to make specifically just for Nereid tail like combat animations and cutscenes and stuff. Budget-wise, it's just not worth doing so much .

uhhh but doesn't Subier appear at the sunken ship
He appeared in my playthrough of the remaster anyway

he skips the boat if you're on Final Emperor and goes straight to the Frozen Sea

you're right, you can only use the weapon's special techniques when you are using the weapon. But if you give the weapon to a different character the new character can use the technique

near end game now how much of my stuff carries over into newgame+

RS2 is a waifu game now

Why are modern remakes like this?

Man it's crazy how many variables this game has, to think it came out on the SNES too

It's the exact same as the original game.

Can I safely leave Roc for the Final Emperor?
Seems like she doesn't unlock anything significant if you got the early Amazons.

Bros this game is fucking kicking my ass but i love it

only if you picked Final Empress, otherwise you miss a dungeon (and she'd probably be pretty tough)

The dragons in the underground palace are good for grinding tech.

Inoculating against temptation by learning to evade it does wonders.

It feels like every hero I leave for the end ends up making me miss some class or dungeon.
I understand why it's this way but it is a bit annoying.

Make peace with Noel and leave him and Subier for last

You can leave the Knizzie refight for last and miss nothing.

Your least used weapon type is club.

it's probably Spear actually, I had a Little Miss Forge Emperor

So far it's bow because I can't find a good bow for the life of me.

It is actually Bow because you don't get any special bows until endgame ones in the hardest optional dungeons that have actual dragons flying around

Headblow goes on every character.

And Nutcracker is one the best tech in the game. DPS is skyrocketing when you realize how much of it is mitigated by defense

Bonecrusher is too good to pass up

No, it's Bow. I haven't found a new bow in ages.

Can someone explain Leylines

I wish there was a glimmer chart for spells like there is for techs. I've got no idea who can spark what spells and if there are even any more I've missed. I'm at final emperor and not counting fusion spells, Wind only has like 5 spells (last I got was Fujin Blade) and surely that's not right when Water has like 10

Spell don't spark, they are unlocked as you level up the magic schools.

They boost damage from the element displayed and heal certain enemies at the end of turn (Almost always the boss). You can nullify it by using techs and spells that have the opposite element: Fire-Water, Wind-Earth, Light-Dark

FFL3 DS Remake

Is this the same version(s) as in the Collection of SaGa on Steam? or are those exclusively the original versions more like Pixel Remasters of FF1-6. ?

Collection of SaGa

Those are just gameboy roms with minor text changes, not remakes

Nope, wind doesn't have more.
kamikouryaku.com/romancingsaga2r/?風術

water

Water of life 2&3 existed in the original but the extra properties just got added to the existing spell rather than sparking a new version. The damaging spell is new to the remake, though

Thanks

Completing mermaid's quest will trigger a time-skip, right? I should probably finish as many quests as I can before that kicks in.

Yes, finishing that quest will always trigger a time skip

false, it's actually spear

Completing mermaid's quest will trigger a time-skip, right?

Yes

I should probably finish as many quests as I can before that kicks in.

Why?

I will now buy your game and coom furiously to the fish

2 new female only classes+bigger tits on rocbouquet doesn't make it a waifu game
you can still easily build full sausage team fagget

Is there some way to mitigate the HP halving effects of the desert, or is it just something you have to deal with?

There is a very easy to miss end game ability in Leon's bedroom.

Yeah it's great

+5 stats in boss fight

while his pathetic excuse of a son can only offer +1 in every fight

Once again proven that Gerard is a virgin loser and the wrong son to die.

where do I put my penis when I'm fucking a mermaid?

fry-futurama.gif - 640x436, 56.42K

be careful tho, you might finish a quest that might trigger a timeskip. save before doing that.

Never forget what they took from you

qyi579.png - 457x164, 176.19K

gills

It really isn't, don't lie to people.
Every time you use something with an element tied to it the battlefield slowly shifts to said element, giving everything which is tuned to said element a boost and enabling regeneration on anyone who's tuned to that element.
You can dispel this effect by using anything that has attributes for the opposite element and tuning the field on the opposite direction.
Say you're fighting Wagnas, he uses Firestorm and the field changes to Fire, now everything that has Fire gets a damage boost and since Wagnas has built in Fire tuning he also gets free health regen at the end of the turn, what do you do about this?
Spam any hydrology spell, or use techs like Still Stream that have water attributes, with each use of something water based the leyline will progressively shit back to neutral.

I understand why people are disappointed but I like anime girl feet

Yeah but Leon only gets his imperial 10 incher shlong fully erect when it's a bossfight, while Gerard's cute pecker is turgid all day every day.

I am so mad... I think the game fucked me on the mermaid quest before I even had a chance to do anything with it.
I just found out I need to go to Savannah, which apparently you go to through Somon by boat. but I can't use the boat at Somon before I complete the Canal quest, and completing the Canal quest triggers a timeskip which will invalidate the mermaid quest because i will no longer be the same emperor.
Is this game truly THIS cruel?
Is there any way for me to fix this? or am I just simply screwed

you coulda walked

You can access the desert near the mermaid area, and from the desert you can reach the savannah

which apparently you go to through Somon by boat.

No? Cross the Melu desert, go north until you reach Teretuva and work your way north through there, the witch also gives you access to the southern portion of Melu precisely to allow you to get a route that doesn't force you to take any ship just in case.
And yeah, this is an actual RPG so your actions have consequences.

There's an achievement called 'getting lost in Ludon Highlands'... what the fuck does that mean? I've cleared that area out and other than some annoying monsters there's nothing of note, do you need to die there or something?

How do I open up that area to walk there? I haven't seen the option to go there.

die to the extra big monster

Die to a wipe in Ludon.
Yeah.

It's a meme you won't get if you aren't an oldfag who grew up with these games.
Basically, a specific challenge run that involves suiciding yourself over and over and over until the game runs out of possible candidates for the emperor spot allows you to complete 90% of the game as the Final Emperors, historically people achieved this by suiciding into random fights in the Ludon Highlands over and over to the point it became a meme, hence the cheevo.
So go there and kill yourself.

achievement requires you to git bad

What the shit?

Oh fuck that's funny, I thought there'd be a hidden quest or area etc instead

damn that's a cool attack

Oh, it's the fucking witch, if you buy a potion other than the mermaid potion... stupid hag

If you aren't playing with the baby wheels on most of the game is hidden, technically, the actual game didn't tell you shit and you had to figure out everything on your own by talking, exploring and generally fucking around and finding out.

it's through the Steppe and the Savannah

axes get the most stylish attack in the game.

1475182947059.png - 413x352, 149.92K

It's kinda lame compared to older Reverse Deltas, Four Season is good though, probably the best it ever looked actually

That's not Martial Arts

I beat him in second generation. I used Witches Cap (freelance mage formation) to keep my team spread out so his line attack didn't hit too many people at once. I spammed wind and fire magic and had melee guys use element attacks (shock rush or whatever wind short sword skill, charge for fire spear). It was a real butt cheek clencher and it was a close fight but it's doable

Scarlet Grace and Emerald Beyond honestly had far better animations for Reverse Delta. This one just looked generic

can't you cancel dantarg's regen with wind magic?

Headbutt is cool and all but it should have been DSC

EB's animations are just on another level compared to this game, battles are way too cheap looking in this remake, though they nailed a couple of those imo

Slice

Izuna

Corkscrew

Dual Gunner

Empty Blade

Dark Blade

Four Seasons

Lifesteal

Triumvirate

Aqua Luna

Are all good.

You can, but sometimes it's better to waste turn on healing your team and allow him to heal instead of focusing on cancelling his.
It's the same shit with Noel and his Red Drake Wave. To prevent the damage I spam Fire Wall, but that makes fire affinity to appear in the upper right corner. You'll know he's gonna cast RDW when you see an exclamation point near his head icon but I noticed that sometimes he uses it when there is no icon at all. Hence why I start casting it when his HP was at 50%

Firewall is kind of a trap in this remake since the game now gives you Light Wall for free just by having the Orchard, the damage reduction is still insane so there's no need for Firewall at all even when it comes to Wagnas or Subier.
It's way better to use Light Wall and prevent any HP regen since you also have Restoration which allows you to ignore most damage, especially on NG+ when you get Roc's passive.
Though to be perfectly honest HP regen doesn't really matter after you get 2X OD, you can output so much fucking damage through Berserk buffing and Shadow Servant that every boss fight plays out exactly the same and doesn't last more than four or five rounds even on Romancing.

Is Orchard even possible on 1st gen? I only had blacksmith lv 1 and magic academy lv 2 / max, and Orchard was proposed on first gen skip.

Though, I skipped the whole catch the girl at night and win Canal Fortress section with Gerard.

No, first gen you only have the very basics in terms of Avalon facilities, so if you want to fight Noel as Gerard or something and use Light Wall you're kinda screwed.
Still, Self Immolation is a thing and that also blocks Fire Drake Wave, so as long as you can spark it and keep it up after the occasional dispel when Noel bonks you you're gucci.

1st Gen after Gerard

how do I get into SaGa if I thought frontier was one of the worst JRPGs I've ever played

You play this one.

your ninja has the same hairstyle as mine

he's fast!

how's the Switch performance, Anon Babbleros?

Try it out and see for yourself, that's the fun of this series

Holy fuck it feels good to finally get a decent axe.

looks more like a great axe to me

Restoration is found at gellid ruins guarded by the boss

If you want a good Axe you should go through the Nazelle Pass into the Frozen Ruins by doing the Saigo Clan questline, the Amethyst Axe is much better, though they also buffed the Vorpal Axe in this remake to be decent so you can also sequence break to Yauda in the early game for that and the Vorpal Sword by beating the shit out of Wagnas.
None of the Smithy weapons outside of the reforged ones are particularly good, you should prioritize armor instead, especially now that the Cross Claymore is garbage.

Holy crap that booba.

in a fucking heartbeat

Form 1 can be put to sleep
The Lizardladies can drop Ranseur spears which are very powerful for the early game

what difficulty should I pick? is there permadeath? named characters? forced story jumps when the leader dies?

nnnnn.jpg - 2560x1600, 684.34K

nice axe nerd

destroyer2.jpg - 1280x720, 258.29K

I picked HARD because you fags didn't respond

hard is tough in the beginning, but it has gotten much much easier mid-game

Dark Magic worth it?

good

Berserk chumps a lot of bosses and Dark Servant is still great

Shadow Servant completely breaks the game, everything else is sadly just as shitty as it was in the original game, if not worse in some cases, the new Rain of Death fusion spell also sucks.

HOW THE FUCK DO I SURVIVE BOKOHN'S NEVERENDING TORTELLO!?!?!?!

so i have to choose between being able to recruit liggers or getting access to dark magic?

i cant get both at once? not even in ng+?

That dumb nerd didn't live long enough to use it every time I fought him in form 2.

i cant get both at once? not even in ng+?

No and no.
You have to choose between completely breaking the game and your gay scaly fetish

man this game really hates this mermaid quest... go through the entire termite nest, clear it, but can't report to the hunter, or it will trigger another time skip...

Protip: You don't need to report to the Hunter.

Fish pussy must be one hell of a drug.

Well obviously i'm not gonna do it now.
But it kinda annoys me that I have to sacrifice this much to do this one quest.
Just the eggshell left now.
I did notice the game breaks whenever i try to talk to the guy at the archery dummies though, the dialogue doesn't happen, and the town starts glitching, npcs phasing through the floor, and when i open doors i phase through them with my arm extended.

Killing termite = 3 event points
Reporting to hunter = 1 event point and warp to avalon
You need at least 8 event points and a warp to get a timeskip (guaranteed timeskip at 15 event points). So you only need to avoid reporting to the hunter if you've already done some other quest before starting with the mermaid.
It's also possible to kill the termites before even starting the mermaid quest.

But it kinda annoys me that I have to sacrifice this much to do this one quest.

Truth to be told this isn't the game's fault, you just planned poorly and didn't really know how to get around that.
You could have simply went through the game as is but you insist on getting that fish pussy so you have to salvage that generation by giving up on something else instead, once you're more knowledgeable you won't have these issues, besides, that's how the game works, all playthroughs are supposed to be unique and missing stuff is part of how the game flows, much like how you have to choose between salamanders and the Diviner class+Dark Magic, or how you can only see one possible route for a lot of events like Cumberland or Henrique's quest in North Longit.
All of the seven have multiple forms as well, and outside of Kujinshi you're bound to miss a form or more for all of them, Subier and Dantarg can also be fought in completely different places depending on how you play through the game.
In short: You shouldn't worry about missable stuff because you're always missing something, you need multiple playthroughs to see all possible event variations and content, and that includes going through the content in vastly different order as well.

it's...................ogre...................

file.png - 389x177, 87.41K

I have never played this game before, how am I supposed to plan around that? Restart the game entirely whenever I run into something like this?
I ran into the mermaid quest by chance, so giving up on it halfway through feels shitty

shrug your shoulders and do better on your next playthrough

You should simply go with the flow and not worry about missing stuff, I told you already.
All of the SaGa games are like this, this game in particular even has some specific quest variations for what you're complaining about, Yauda is an example of that as if you start the questline but get a generation skip before completing it you get a different ending that is related to the timeskip, Cumberland is another example.

How do I survive the Seven Heroes overdrive

You don't, either you kill them before they do it or you die.
It's really dumb.

Fucking impossible

It's absolutely possible, easy even, it's just garbage as actual boss design and a kick in the balls coming from the original fight where surviving Astral Gate was absolutely possible.
The worst thing is that the final bosses in Emerald Beyond also had a similar timed nuke gimmick but in that game you can actually build around it and your not forced to just burst it down before it gets to do it, also because it's really hard to do.
This remake is the complete opposite, you're actually suppose to not engage in any boss fight, just come over with a fully charged OD gauge, buff with Berserk and Shadow Servant and rape every single boss before they can do anything to you as they all have timed nukes.

Interesting.. I obtained mermaid pussy, and then 179 year timeskip, and then i can still hand in the hunter quest without issues, and it's the same guy.

Yeah, same thing happens with a lot of people, Henrique can also theoretically survive for hundreds of years

The silliest thing is in the jungle. The women move to a separate village, and somehow there are still two separate villages 1000 years later

This asshole has been the worst thing I've fought. It basically came down to luck with Stun.

Haven't fought him yet in the remake but in the remaster you could wreck him by spamming counter

I did it with instant arrow (instant shot? whatever) the turn before + light wall. Fire Wall helps if you can get it up too since it'll block tidal wave and noel's bullshit.

Light wall

I still have a save before him so maybe I'll try that.

Do learned spells carry over into NG+? If I were to pick Dark magic and learn it all, could I save the lizards in NG+ and still have access to it, or does it need unlocking through the quest to be able to relearn it?

I tried a few counter moves like Matardor and Windmill and nah, they don't work.

Do I need to have played the first one to enjoy this?

Is there a time limit to do each quests? I am playing the classic version btw
