MICROSOFT has the most pro-consumer console strategy on the market
How THE FUCK
MICROSOFT has the most pro-consumer console strategy on the market
How THE FUCK
everyone else fucked up in some ways
and Microsoft did nothing major with their console platform due to how dead it is since One days, so no fuckups because they literally did nothing
did nothing
still loses
>did nothing
They gave away most of their games for 10 dollars a month
desperation
Tendies and Snoys love to eat shit for excessive prices. You can game on Xbox even paying for XBL for cheap. It doesn't help that the gold coins were removed from the Nintendo E SHOP and you can earn MS bucks pretty quickly on Xbox for free.
Except they haven't done nothing.
Cross-buy and saves with PC
First to do Free Online play for free-to-play games like Forknife
First to try and bring back Backwards Compatibility
Actually have peripheral Backwards Compatibility (can use your Xbone Controllers on XSeX|S)
Provided the cheapest entry level 9th Gen console in the Series S
Held off on making their games $70 longer than anyone else
Provide the best game library for their subscription based service with all their brand new games (some may say it's a negative because they lead the charge on that idea)
Bought up huge studios to initially make them exclusives for their platform (then fucked that up)
Phil is the last and only known Game Guy head for any of the major 3 now that Shuhei left PlayStation, Reggie left Nintendo, and Iwata died
Actually have an ok rewards system for playing and buying games
They've done a lot right to try and attract people back to the ecosystem, but it hasn't worked. Granted, they have to try, but no matter how much you do things in a consumer friendly way, it doesn't guarantee success.
subscription scam
pro consumer
No.
What about it is a scam?
Yeah, you don't own the games, but there's nothing stopping you from buying them. It's not like apple arcade that actually doesn't let you buy the games on their subscription service. Now that's a scam.
PS Plus
Nintendo Switch Online
Explain how these are different.
Promising good value when the end goal is lower quality and higher prices. They are not honest in their intentions. They are scamming people into buying into a system that will fuck them over.
You don't get the new games
Nintendo doesn't let you even buy the old games on their subscription library
Sony rotates the numbers and titles way more frequently to encourage panic purchasing
The PlayStation one isn't much cheaper for less games
The Nintendo one is cheaper but with a hostage catalog
Both don't also work on PC
Actual Xchad here who knows a thing or 2 about his platform of choice. That second one is not true. F2P games on Playstation were always F2P without PS plus, same on Switch.
always has been
you were just too much of a weeb to notice
All of that is so pro consumer tho!
- Anon Babble
Yes. Key word there is "strategy", because they made the console itself completely useless and obsolete but the games are accessible on basically everything, even phones, for a single $10/month subscription. The potential is obvious.
I have both of those and Gamepass. The difference is that I can plug in a controller to my phone and play Halo 5 on Gamepass on a bus. Nintendo Switch Online basically just gives you access to some older games and a few online features, that's it. And PS Plus lets me play some games (a limited amount) after a long download in front of my PS5 at home. Gamepass is the only one worth getting without the console.
consoles is about innovation.
they can be at the edge simply because exclusives can take advantage of 'new' hardware.
now microsoft did this with that motion camera i forgot the name of. but then they just somehow stopped. releasing a small pc and call it a console. nothing new, no innovation, basically a pc running windows with a shell.
playstation did the same and ruined their brand forever because they let the west lead that division.
nintendo is the one left standing, innovation wise.
that happens when you've been in last every gen since your big hit 20 years prior and desperately want to attract an audience again
most pro-consumer console strategy
The company that inadvertently blew the whistle that they could brick "physical" copies
The past TWENTY YEARS gyro adoption into the standard controller was held back by them being retards and building it not being available in the xinput standard
Swallowing up dozens of studios and putting their IPs into purgatory
Literally the ONLY positive thing you can say about them is that their controllers take AAs.
In some ways they do. You can use most Xbox 360 games that matter on your new console, and they don't charge for cloud save backups like Sony and Nintendo.
no?
at least on ps5 the discs contain the full game (for the most part)
Pretty sure cloud saves are included in the own a console tax and not actually something they provide.
its just because they are the underdog.
everybody can technically brick modern physical games. nintendo showed that off when retards started going online with pirated games that had the same ID as the physical original at the same time.
You're such a retard
everybody can technically brick modern physical games.
Yes that's why I referred to it as "inadvertently blowing the whistle" rather than "inventing physical games you can't loan people"
Yep. The console is powerful with a excellent pricing, free game updates, free backward compatibility, game pass is a great deal, no gimmicks and other bullshit
You guys need to apologise
The only bad thing they're doing is kill physical completely, which I'd argue is the worst possible future for consoles. The used game market is the only thing keeping game prices in check at all on digital storefronts on consoles.
Steam functions completely differenlty because if Steam or a PC publisher gets too greedy everyone will just pirate their game. So they're up against a wall.
everyone will just pirate their game.
You forgot not having all their options for other shit to play not getting nuked every 5-10 years.
Gyro is a dumb gimmick. If you want to play FPS on console so badly you can plug a mouse and keyboard into your xbox.
Yeah I forgot nintendo and sony are using all of those ips like custom robo, jak, sly, etc. It's time to grow up and accept they cannot make whatever it is you want. Every single publisher has dozens of dead ip that are never coming back.
I dunno. I got a Seris S as my first Xbox ever after PS4 being a grand pain in the ass and a disappointment in general and it still feels amazing. From general features like quick resume and BC library to the shit I can do with devmode (I've actually covered lots of things from my backlog using not only official Xbox BC but Duckstation and XBSX2 that work great). Feels good, man. Oh, and I love how d-pad clicks.
Naughty Dog might be a skinwalker company pretending to be the people that made the games people actually gave a shit about, but it still owns Jak and Daxter.
There's completely justified shit you can give sony, like that they started doing the microsoft thing, but you're completely out of your mind if you're trying to imply that it is anywhere near how fucking bad it was when they bought Actiblizz and all the implications that follow.
Or any of the other number of IPs that are dead specifically because of them.
Like Blinx, which they murdered for literally no reason and wouldn't even surrender the rights back to Artoon who still wanted to use it.
Spend gorillions doing shit nobody asked them to do
Nigger, all that was asked of them was a GOOD Halo game.
Cuz they're in the worst position. Corporations in healthy positions can afford to fuck over their consumerbases because they have enough bootlickers who will eat the shit shoveled at their face. Companies who have burned through said goodwill need to actually please their consumerbases. Sony and Nintendo have been in these positions before, and will return to those positions again. These console wars are cyclic.
still gives you an option to purchase the games to keep, which allows you to play them on any console in their ecosystem and sometimes even gives you a a PC port copy too
H5 and Infinite exist
b-b-but
H5 got rid of 4's CoDshit and brought back Halo 2 style platforming and verticality as a key part of the map design, it was also the first halo game to have a somewhat balanced weapon sandbox, which infinite got even more right on going back even more towards a classic approach even if it downplayed the platforming
No games. I don't know what MS did to piss over everyone but EA, Ubisoft, and 2K, but if you don't want slop, you're going to look elsewhere.
You clearly can't communicate properly so I will leave your retardation to yourself.
Sony doesn't own the IPs Jak and Sly, the studios that own them (Naughty Dog being mentioned for being the Studio in Name Only) choose not to release games.
Microsoft bought up a fuck ton of studios and sit on their IPs.
These are not the same situation.
Microsoft has the most anti-game console strategy on the market.
No Gyro, which means that every game that wants to release on their platform needs to have cerebral palsy friendly camera controls
Paid online a decade after it became known as a total scam
Goypass Subscription service years after subscription services became known as total scams
Wangblows dropping support for WMR and generally maintaining inconsistent support for their hardware and software
Acquires major publishers and small developers and proceeds to do basically nothing of note with them because selling games is not useful to the stock market
Games are currently stagnating in a dump because of Microsoft and them leaving the market could only be considered a good thing.
They are the flushable wetwipe of console gaming.
Publishing companies are shit no matter what and need to taken down a peg by removing copyright.
5 year duration and the company is forced to upload any software protected under copyright as AGPL once that time limit is up, instead of the current system where the criminalization of DRM circumvention turns copyright into a pseudo-patent/trade secret hybrid. Genuine indies without publishers can have a 10 year duration for all I care.
This. The instant they were in a good spot, the end of the 360 era, they went full retard with "you don't like the xbone being always online? then stick with the 360 poorfag lmao". They only care now because they have to compete to get your money. If they ever get popular again, they will stop improving, and go back to squeezing you for every penny you are worth.
A tale as old as time.
by removing copyright.
That would make publishing companies infinitely worse because it would just be legal for them to steal everyone's shit.
What we need is just shit like Abandonware being an actually legally recognized concept, or rolling copyright protections back to the old 20 year standard.
Series S Chad here, still love m Xbox. Gamepass is more expensive now but I don't auto renew my subscription and only reactivate when there's some new kino I wanna try. I've mainly been jamming Balatro the last week and still need to finish KCD 2
If they can help slowly kill off exclusivity, I will appreciate them only for that.
My SeXbox is unironically my favorite console just because they brought the best of their old games forward, upgraded them, and you can play the new enhanced versions for free with the original disc.
It's kind of funny in a sad way how they push so hard to be pro-consumer, but their lack of good exclusives has all but killed their console.
Shill harder, faggot.
>The past TWENTY YEARS gyro adoption into the standard controller was held back by them being retards and building it not being available in the xinput standard
Gyro is a meme. I'd say that it's the force feedback triggers that are a game changer that they need to implement
lol
don't you waste more money this way than if you bought a SeX + physical and resold the games when you were done with them?
you can play the new enhanced versions for free with the original disc
on the Switch 2 you have to pay extra per backwards compatible game you already own just to get better framerates
Idk why people aren't mentioning this and are just fixating on Donkey Kong's eyes
Plenty of people are, but there are some dedicated Nintendo fanboys out there eager to downplay how egregious it is.
This is the halo general iydk
Gyro is a meme
You wouldn't even consider saying something like that if 'feature parity' didn't mean it was completely unimplemented in everything
I guess. I bought the Series S in the middle of 2021 when Series X+PS5s were still hard as fuck to get (months long waiting lists). The Series S is fine for what I general play the only thing that annoys me is the low draw distance for open world games
I actually played games on PS4 with the gyro and it was always forced in the just for the purpose of it. Also bought a gyro controller for PC and mapped it properly to be used in FPS games with gyro aiming but it was still just a gimmick compared to even regular stick aiming
It's already legal for them to steal everyone's shit and go back on negotiated contracts.
Individuals generally can't deal with legal disputes and settling out of court is a slap on the wrist for the publishing company at best, and that's when it's not the creator who gets saddled with the proportionately larger bill.
Just look at how Bethesda has treated anyone they have ever had to work with, withholding pay to force renegotiation and acquisitions is a standard tactic for publishing companies.
The current situation is often so weighted towards the larger publishing companies that it's the creators of an IP that will typically need to ask permission to continue work on their own projects, not vice versa.
The universal truth is that a man has to eat and a publishing company has to eat the works and dreams of men.
Forcing a drastically lower copyright duration onto copyright held by publishing companies does not compromise individual creators. Most high budget works barely survive 10 years under a publishing company, let alone 20, so that's also not a feasible duration. Putting copyright on the bargaining table at all is bad for the bargaining power of any individual with a consolidated company, because the company can just keep denying them until they hand it over.
It's possible that a total lack of copyright now would fail due to the existence of consolidated multinational publishing companies (enabled by the gross excesses of copyright law in the first place), but that just means that it's primarily the publishing companies that need to be stripped of the legal protection of IP law, while the protections for individuals (not estates and trusts, lmao) need to be walked back at a more gradual pace.
Force feedback triggers are shit as long as the construction of even "premium" controllers remains budget, plastic chinkshit when it should be comparable to the flightstick market. It's just one more point of failure.
It's funny how much you people hate on Game Pass and fearmonger about it, but so far the only one that's actually lived up to any of the negative comments is Nintendo. Like all you'd ever hear was that it was a ploy to make it so people didn't own games, and that they would stop offering titles or even honoring purchases to have Game Pass exclusives, but then that's literally what happened with the Virtual Console being axed in favor of making people pay $50/yr to access ROMs they've likely already purchased.
Doesn't Goy pass on PC partition your games off to a separate partition that you have no administrative control over (can't copy or back up)?
Or am I remembering this wrong?
It's a fundamentally cancerous business model. The only difference you are seeing is microsoft isn't in a strong enough position to go full mask off yet. If people jumped on GP and believed microsoft's lies then the shit everyone worried about would happen in no time.
It doesn't.
Fortunately, this is not even true.
I just remember windows store installs being fucking retarded and not in the folders they should be in.
I also remember when PSO2 launched in the west windows would forget where it was installed and then install it somewhere else so at some point people had full HDDs with six PSO2 installs.
