Can we recognize what a goddamn genius move this was? They pretty much ensured that Switch 2 will be the go to console in Japan with its low price while preventing mass scalping and supply issues. This will secure JP third party support for years to come.
Switch 2 Japanese language version
That amount is wrong… a yen is like a cent. 49800 yen is 498$
They kind of had no choice since the yen is so weak now. I doubt they wanted to sell it at a loss in Japan at all, since they know that it would sell like hotcakes at any price point. But the economic situation forced their hand
It's not 2015 anymore.
50000 yen is like 300€ now.
a yen is 2/3 of a cent.
is this the first instance of a "foreigner tax" in the vidya industry? it's not but i like how that sounds
with its low price
It's not a low price.
49,990 yen for Japanese people living in Japan has the same spending power as $499 Americans in America. Dollars mean jack shit for nips. They don't earn dollars.
Switch 1 is 20,000 yen cheaper. Nintendo garnered a lot of goodwill with this move, though. They're losing money on hardware to ensure large userbase to support software sales in Japan.
genuine retard
You mean selling a console/handheld below cost is a genius move first thought by Nintendo?
Selling it in the most important region at a lower cost while preventing other regions from taking advantage of that deal is a genius move.
That was over a decade ago. It's been 150 yen to a dollar for most of the 2020s now.
did you just wake up from a coma or something?
/thread
It's also ignoring just how little money most people earn in Japan. Shit is fucked over there.
And Japan was JUST experiencing a booming economy too....shame....
Japan is the least profitable region
If weak yen is the reason, why do no Japs complain about the price?
This price setting is clearly racism
They're guaranteeing that the next generation of gaming devs want in with Nintendo
They charge extra for the English dub in japan for some games, so a game that's $60 might charge $25 more for English va
learn japanese
problem solved, or in japanese, purobemu soberu
For Sony because nips don't give a single shit about PS5. They wouldn't buy it even if it was 30.000 yen
why do no Japs complain about the price?
They do. But a lot of them are just under the thumb, like us. Accept it or move on is basically the mindset of most.
Not really anything to do with Sony. But more that the Japanese fucking hate stationary gaming devices more or less. They're all in on mobile.
It's not only that the yen is weak but the prices are still higher than Switch 1 prices.
People are saying, "But they're selling Switch 2 games for 9000 JPY, that means they're selling them for 60 USD" ignoring that the past few years' releases on Switch 1 are around 6-7K.
im importing the jp only version, those reps paid off
I'm not paying extra so faggots in japan can get their console and games cheaper.
Okay so they'll just skip out on MH Wilds
they all play on PC retard, they fucking love LoL/Apex and vtuber shit, they want PC and a portable
There has always been higher priced switch games (like xenoblade 3)
no proof
buy jp system
replace fw with mult-lang system
heh...nothin personnel.... nips
what's the price of the games in Japan?
But they can't afford a PC and a portable so Nintendo has to subsidize right?
roughly 54.99 USD
This system will be unhackable
lol
lmao
This system will be unhackable
oh, sure
companies have to raise prices because.... They just have too!
Multi-billion dollar companies could easily keep prices low to be competitive despite tariffs, but because retards will buy anything they won't. Look at how many retards rushed to buy cars at a "deal" (insane post COVID markup with 5% APR minimum) just to "avoid" tariffs.
Japanese people have to win a lottery to be able to preorder it anon
In Australia maybe
If modern releases are anything to go by, 9,000-10,000 yen. In Japan they've always paid more for games, like the equivalent of 70-80 dollars which sucked ass when I was importing them 10 years ago when the yen was much stronger.
Isn't like the average wage in Japan like 4 million yen, and like a third of it goes to taxes? It doesn't really matter what the price is when converted to dollars, to Japs 50k is still pretty steep.
This will secure JP third party support for years to come.
They're all region locked to the Japanese console with no way to import those games
sasuga nippon
I think it's just locked to Japanese language and Japan as a location for account
There is no region-lock on the global SKU console, you can buy a European Switch 2 and still connect to the Japanese Eshop or import games from there
It's the Japanese-only Switch 2 that is strictly limited to the Japanese eshop in addition to have the OS solely in moonrunes.
why do no Japs complain about the price?
They do not, Switch 2 is pretty cheap and a lot cheaper compared to the base PS5 (75k yen)
Screenshot my post, it will be impenetrable. I can guarantee it.
it will be impenetrable
that's what nintendo said about the switch, sony said about the PS5, and you said about your mom, and look where we are now
I give it 3 years tops, realistically 2
Not that anon but Switch 1 had a Tegra processor that was well documented beforehand as well as a hardware security exploit that Nvidia forgot to patch out until the v2 model and onwards. Those models are still yet to be hacked, and the Switch 2 has a custom Nvidia processor that will make things harder as well. Do not expect anything till the end of its lifespan.
