There's not really a gnostic religion, in the sense that there's not just one abrahamic religion. There were a ton of beliefs that shared the idea of a demiurge trapping us in the material, a lot of them were even Christian faiths. Gnostic ideas have just taken hold lately because the world feels really fake and gay, because evil jews are ruining everything.

See even among the many Gnostic faiths there's a ton of disagreement on that. Yaldabaoth, demiurge, are they the same? Is the craftsman evil, or misguided, or benevolent? How many spheres are there? What role do the archons play, and Sophia? Is gnosis divine ecstasy or is it how the pneumatic spirit answers the questions of the archons as it ascends through the spheres? Unfortunately, they are malevolent pricks that practice the strongest form of ingroup preference mankind has ever seen. I am agnostic. All religions (that I've read so far, admittedly not a lot) seem false. But at the same time, existence in itself is just incredible. And the more I learn about how vast and complex the universe is that gives me more faith there has to be a higher power, rather than less. But I am actually no shit autistic so I am 'wired differently' and believe I have a low IQ (I have never been tested as an adult but I never did well in school and flunked out of college).
But AFAIK, the earliest religions did not believe in an afterlife. Part of their lesson was getting over it and making the most with what you were afforded and being happy with that. And that the only true path for a mortal is to do something great so that you're remembered throughout history. But I just don't want to die when I die. But if 'spirits ' have a physical element (meaning finite aspects) it makes sense that our 'essence' have to be "recycled" at some point.

Well, if I go through some weird spiritual journey on my death and have to choose between gods, I will just choose Christ as that was what I was raised to believe. And probably what my family will be choosing as well, and I like and get along with my family.
