New Foundation server?

The SWG emulation team is putting the finishing touches on the project. Just some space content stuff. Looks to be finishing imminently.

They are starting a new website called SWGrealms which will provide an easy way to find and host custom servers with all the modifications you might like. Included on that is a new primary server called NFS (New Foundation Server) which will be a fresh start with the finished code and some new balancing. No Jedi unlock to start out with and they've said they are going to incorporate some of Raph Koster's original ideas for Jedi so that when they are available, it won't function the same way as it used to since that tends to ruin the game.

If you haven't played on a fresh SWG server, you are in for a treat.

Its been ages, but yeah I've been getting an itch to replay SWG. So it's Pre-CU, NGE and has JTL content then?

Pre-CU on NFS with another primary server that will be CU code if you prefer that. And yes, JTL content is what they are wrapping up currently.

That was where they made the announcements.

Sweet, I'll check this out, thanks.

I never got to play this game, I wanted to play it when I was a kid, that would be the perfect opportunity for me to check that old wish
Is it really that good?

Since it has such a heavy emphasis on the sandbox it really depends on the playerbase. The game itself is very clunky but the amount of freedom you have to basically make whatever glup shitto you want is way ahead of its time. I haven't seen another sandbox mmo since come close.

But it REALLY requires a decent sized community of people helping eachother out to function. You can't even put on higher encumbrance armor without the help of 2-3 other players.

Prolly doctor rifleman if it's precu although I forgot what was good

Rifleman/combat medic is super strong for mind management/damage especially if you are doing a lot of PVP.

Its been so long I forgot how to play.

not really the sort of game that requires an encyclopedic understanding of its mechanics as long as you are good at giving yourself goals.

Do you want to be a crafter or combat profession? Or some sort of service profession/gatherer like entertainer or doctor or ranger or something?

I hope it will be good then, does it run only on old windows or every systems?

Does the game have wild open PVP ? Can you be a bounty hunter who hunt players?

Dislike the slow combat in pre-cu

Try to be a crafter

Just want to make droids cause it sounds cool

Grab some materials by kneeling down for hours on end

If i want more materials i need dedicated structures

Structures need money

Don't know how to make money

Entire flow turns into a full time job

Am i doing it wrong? Maybe i'm just an NGE combat baby for life.

Last big server start was a blast. Runs fine on newer versions of windows.

pre-CU

will it have the OG Kliknik queens with medium armor or the nerfed ones

Yes and yes. You can choose a side in the galactic civil war as a rebel or imperial operative. Players who have built cities can wrestle for control of planets by placing military bases that players of the opposing faction can attempt to take down. Mass PVP is a giant clusterfuck. Many players remember the glorious old days of imperial and rebel forces fighting back and forth between Bestine and Anchorhead.
Smaller scale PVP gets a lot more sweaty. It becomes an arms race for who can source the highest quality weapons and armor (all equipment degrades overtime, contributing to the economy)
In Pre-CU Bounty Hunters primarily hunt Jedi who are automatically put on the terminals to be hunted if they use a lightsaber/force powers nearby any humanoids be it players or npcs. This changed in later versions of the game where you could put a bounty on any player that killed you in PVP so a Bounty Hunter could go get revenge on your behalf. They are saying they will change Jedi for the new server so I imagine this will change as well.

What are the options for criminal enterprise?

This is screwing with my head. It says Star Wars Galaxies but my brain is seeing the Red Dwarf logo.

can you just be a bastard who play on both side or you have to automatically choose one for PVP?
From what I read, that game was one of the biggest MMO with an actual social aspect

What race are you playing?

I highly recommend crafters get some basic combat skills to run missions and get a few credits to jump start their crafting. Harvesters aren't usually too expensive. The main thing is being lucky enough to find a spot to harvest server best resources before the nolifers suck it all up. Although the distribution of server best resources is a noted issue that they are saying they will address with the new server.

Smugglers are very important for crafting spices for huge short term buffs and for slicing equipment to be more potent at the cost of lower durability. Both are very important for getting an edge in pvp but are illegal and stormtroopers will hassle you if you are caught with any contraband whether you made it or not.

Bounty Hunters don't need to be aligned to either faction in order to hunt bounties. You can even hunt your own team if you are a real dick. Outside of that factionless pvp is fairly limited unless you are in a guild war or something. Guilds can consent to being flagged hostile to eachother.

Could they managed to add space combat in pre-CU?

I will still be playing Swtor

I hope they won't have speed up XP

are you the type of person who wants to play as a wookiee but can't wear normal armor so you need special wookiee armor? do you love the idea of having to watch dancers to regenerate your mind after a long day of bullseyeing womp rats, and those dancers are all human players?
if so, you'll love SWG
if you want just generic streamlied Star Wars RPG, then no

They already did. You can fly around in their test server right now. They are finishing that up now and then will launch the new server.

I doubt they will. Honestly when you come to grips with the games mechanics, there isn't much grind compared to most MMOs. You can max out a combat profession in a few days of grinding.

For those that do want sped up exp, there will undoubtedly be several custom servers for them to play on.

it's exactly this I'm searching, a true social MMO, not something like the MMO of today, something that feels like it's own, simulated world (while still being a game and not just a social hub)

Well dang that sounds pretty cool. Might be fun to build up a network of smugglers, gun runners and bounty hunters to play the field. I've gotten more than enough of being a ground pounder in Star Wars might be fun to do a slime ball roleplay run

Totally possible and a good goal for SWG. The best weapon/armorsmiths are either also trained up the smuggler slicing line of skills or have a smuggler friend so they can supe up their gear. A really strong weapon made with server best resources and sliced properly (there's a bit of randomness with it) can be worth obscene amounts of credits.

the real lads are politicians

You mean I can be intergalactic Microchip? Say less
Who wants to be my Fronk?

By necessity even. Gotta have a lotta frens for that to work out.

You can't even put on higher encumbrance armor without the help of 2-3 other players

absolutely unhinged

they should do a permadeath server

It was a different time. There are lower encumbrance armors you can use if you want mitigation without the need of doctor and entertainer buffs. But if you want to rock the heavy composite armor shit you'll need a doctor to buff all of your health and action attributes and both dancers and musicians to buff your mind attributes.

Is droid engineering even worth investing time into? I really only have NGE knowledge but i never really knew if that was a useful profession or not but it always sounded cool.

That is likely one of the changes they will be making to Jedi. It was one of Raph Koster's original ideas for Jedi anyways and they've mentioned they are going to use his ideas when they eventually reincorporate Jedi.

Droids are a great utility for certain professions. And pilots love them. Just don't think you'll be making battle droids since combat models are pretty underwhelming. And the biggest problem is since they are pets they don't degrade over time like most other equipment so you won't get as many repeat customers.

from what I get, the games allows you to play numerous job, but could a guy, let's say, ONLY play as a politician or a musician all the time from start to finish?

Then yes, I'd say give it a try. I too missed the original release and have dabbled with the emulators. Going to be there for day 1 for this release I hope.

Subtle, guys. Real fucking subtle.

Yes you can specialize. marcjoyce.github.io/SWGProfessionCalculator/
You get 250 points to spend on the various skillboxes in the game, each requiring their own specialized exp to unlock. You can have an npc train you or have a player who already has the skill train you. Language skills have to be learned from players. So learn shyriwook from someone straight away or you are going to have a hard time understanding any wookiees since thats the only language they can speak.

Politician doesn't actually require points to skill up in. It unlocks upgrades for your player city if you are the mayor. Most people don't get the opportunity to max out politician since it requires actual politicking. Entertainers often learn everything possible for entertainers since theres not much benefit in being an entertainer that can also shoot a pistol and there's a huge benefit to being a master dancer, master musician, and master image designer and being a one-stop-shop for anyone's entertainer needs.

I new a few city mayors who were entertainers. It's a good fit since entertainers are basically just living in their chatrooms anyways.

Honestly the crafting and resource system is the true standout feature of this game. Nothing I've ever played since has quite scratched the itch.

Swordsman

Most relevant weapon is a hammer

This always bugged me

Scythe blades can also be good. But yeah comes down to damage types.
