Rinse and repeat. He can always go back to Vermillion by cutting back to Diglett Cave, which he's done once in the past after failing to clear Mt. Moon, but he always winds up back here anyways.

The problem is when he gets to Cerulean, he's far less likely to leave the town via the Trashed House and more likely to just cut at the tree going south, which takes him directly down route 5 towards the underground tunnel, completely skipping Route 9 in the northeast part of town. Back when he used the trashed house before CUT, he would actually investigate Route 9.

To be fair there are FAR more efficient ways to have an "AI" play pokemon without the huge VRAM cost that comes with LLMs. Machine learning with reinforcement training can train an AI to play a game but it takes a lot of handholding and training to get it to the point where it can run on its own. It's also not going to provide its funny thought processes like an LLM (chatbot) would. The idea for Claude plays isn't about making the most efficient AI to play games possible, as LLMs aren't designed to play games. It's just an experiment to see how well an LLM can play a game with as little intervention as possible. Turns out it can do...alright, like a dumb child. But older versions of Claude could barely even leave his room.

Cerulean City is just very poorly designed. Until you have CUT, there's no way to get to the eastern part of the city except by walking through the Trashed House. This was the games way to block you from going too far ahead before getting the SS Anne Ticket from Bill, but it's just very crappy town design to have the main route go through someone's house.
