it looks like it will be fun, but it's not doom, and somehow that's even worse than it just being outright shit. i appreciated 2016 because it felt like classic doom brought into the modern era, with enough changes to not scare off the *real* modern audience (not in a retard scumfuck tranny way). just enough cutscenes to break up the action, modern instrumentation, a better map, and progression all make sense for a 2016 soft reboot.

eternal? eh... it was alright. they went way too far with the UI being weird neon-y, the style just didn't fit. it felt almost like it was trying to be an 80's satire at times. also, level design was just okay, not great and not terrible. the maykrs were a weak as fuck primary antagonist too, some bullshit they made up along the way to justify the game existing. why hadn't we heard about them before if they were such a threat? even in 2016, that would have been the perfect time to tee up that narrative and deny me a bitching ticket, but they didn't.

The thousands of community WADs show that even the fans know how important maps are to Doom’s DNA. Yet, you have games like Doom Eternal and likely The Dark Ages where it’s nothing but square combat arena, circular combat arena, square combat arena etc.
Doom isn’t supposed to be an FPS Bop-It game where you have to constantly cycle between a dozen different multicolored functions while walking forward.

I did a run trying to use the chainsaw as little as possible and there were only 3 times in the entire campaign I felt like I needed to use the chainsaw to continue.
