Standalone Questslop has been a disaster for VR. There will never be another big budget VR game. Half Life: Alyx remains the only worthwhile VR game.
Standalone Questslop has been a disaster for VR. There will never be another big budget VR game...
I did not miss those threads.
It's extremely telling that the only VR games worth mentioning are still only alyx and beat saber.
Shooting galleries
Rhythm games
Picking up items for puzzles games
Using your hands and head as an input for video games is extremely limiting for gameplay
Carmack abandoning VR tells you everything you need to know.
lmao poorfags already seething
Valve abandoned traditional single player games for this and live service games in the 2010s
They didn't bother making another VR game after this
What's the point of it all? Also where's Deckard?
PCVR has been dead for a long time. Do they even make display port headsets anymore? I know Windows Mixed Reality headsets literally don't even work anymore as of a recent windows update
wrong. every Unreal Engine and Unity game can now be played in VR including the very latest AAA big budget slops
you were there to witness the entire VR ecosystem get progressively gaslit into liking Facebook headsets even though they are objectively worse than the Index and ruined everything they touched in well-documented instances of graphics and QoL rot
VR has been a disaster for VR
so many studios tried their hand at it, and Alyx was about the only game anyone ever gave a fuck about
wake me up when we get Matrix style full dive neural interfaces, because I don't see anything less than that saving VR
Why the FUCK did Capcom make the VR modes of RE7/8/4Re exclusive to PlayStation?
It's not the same and you know it
Because Sony paying for their creation out of desperation for exclusive content was the only reason Capcom did them in the first place.
yes only shooters benefit from it
youtube.com
problem?
Alyx
alyx wouldnt even get made if so many weren't conned by VR
we would still be using vorpx and getting amazed by le 3D and real-world scaling
I really like Boneworks
Facebook is just prolonging the agony
without them investing into VR massively, it would die off sooner
The shooting, physics and interactivity are great but the uninspired textureless cp_orange levels and boring hologram enemies are lame. Then sequel doubled down on the sandbox crap
play Behemoth for 2 hours
have my VR legs, feel fine
take helmet off
suddenly feel hangover
There's just no getting past motion sickness. Even when you think you've beaten it, it still sometimes gets you AFTER you play the game. VR will never get past this bottleneck
objectively worse than the Index
Well they're like 3 times cheaper so they should be objectively worse. They're not though, not anymore. Only missing the display port now
I never get this, but mine is more just a relaxation thing.
zogbot
12 hours of arresting nigs
wanna play some vr
realize i dont wanna stand more and just wanna sit down and relax
never put on headset because I dont wanna play it seated
rinse and repeat for 2 years.
muh full dive
If your average gaymer can't even be bothered to try modern VR, what makes you think they'll be bothered to try VR that demands even more of an investment from them? You literally have to go into coma to play full dive, people think putting heavy glasses on is too much and you think they'll go into coma
if it affects me it affects everyone!
I'm perfectly fine, stop being soft
I'm fine so it affects nobody!
Sales numbers tell me everything I need to know about peoples level of comfort in VR. At this point there's no explanation other than discomfort. People just don't talk about it because they don't want to argue with fags like you who always pop up whenever discomfort is mentioned
At this point there's no explanation other than discomfort.
The lack of games?
The cost?
The space requirements?
Modern VR is like a shitass middle ground no one wants.
With a VR kit, you're too "in the real world" for immersion - still crammed into your actual room and tied to your actual body with an extra shitty helmet on it. You don't get sensory feedback, your freedom is constrained three times over by your body, your room and the game's ability to register and process your movement. It demands so much more than a normal game, but doesn't give you enough for it.
Yes, "full dive" would be way better than VR if we could get it. But the only way that happens is if Gaben leaves his mortal form behind, ascends to godhood and gets this shit done all by himself.
We're long past those copes. You can buy a used quest 2 for under 200 bucks. The library of exclusives is bigger than what most consoles have, plus you can watch 3D movies and VR porn. The space requirement is barely relevant now when most games are stick controlled and can be played in 1 spot. Who doesn't have enough space to stand in 1 spot and wave hands in front of their face? The Japanese?
no one wants
And who the fuck wants to induce a coma to play video games exactly? Because that's what full dive is, you lose control of your IRL body while you play. How is that desirable exactly
It's way more desirable than modern VR, where you keep bumping into real world furniture like a blind retard.
Again, if bumping into furniture stop you from playing how the fuck is COMA okay with you? The kind of whiny faggot who complains about brick on face will never play a full dive game. You'll be complaining even more than before
are you genuinely retarded?
you can't run your head into the wall if body is shut down and all the movement only happens in your head
it's why your brain shuts the body down when you're dreaming
You can buy a used quest 2 for under 200 bucks
$200 for a used outdated headset. And you'll need a good PC and a good wifi setup unless you want to be stuck playing standalone oculus crap
The library of exclusives is bigger than what most consoles have
Alyx is still the only one worth playing
plus you can watch 3D movies and VR porn
It's a novelty that wears off quickly. Jerking off with a headset strapped to your face while fumbling with controllers is more annoying than anything
you can't run your head into the wall if body is shut down
Yeah but you also can stay in the fucking coma if something goes wrong. You see how the stakes are a bit higher? See how a man afraid of hitting a table with his fat ass might also be afraid of INDUCING A FUCKING COMA that he can't get out of?
Wow, another shooting gallery with extremely primitive movement how exciting.
t.never wakes up after full diving into Skyrim with over 300 coomer mods
family finds you limp in your diver chair with a werewolf mating pressing your triple F nord bimbo on the screen
Alyx is still the only one worth playing
Not really. For me it was worth it just for Beat Saber and Synth Riders alone, I play them daily now.
It's a novelty that wears off quickly
The novelty of seeing with 2 eyes? I dunno I've been doing it my whole life and it still didn't wear off for me
Beat Saber
A garbage game for braindead normies. You enjoy swinging your arms around to shitty music?
All of the Quest exclusives are vapid, dull, brainless experiences. When they're not dredging up 20 year old games and slapping makeup over them, they're making vapid shit, the best of which wouldn't pass for a demo in the PS360 era. Behemoth, Asgard's Wrath 2, Batman whatever, they're all garbage on the level of Infinity Blade, and at least that knew it was a time waster made to be played on a fucking phone.
He told everyone why he quit, meta wouldn't listen to him often enough and AI and AGI are vastly more interesting to him than any consumer electronic could ever be no matter how good VR gets.
Also he had a few disagreeable takes on VR, I don't know if he's right about everything. He was pessimistic about foveated rendering then PSVR2 came out and it worked great
It demands so much more than a normal game, but doesn't give you enough for it.
This is all that needs to be said about VR's failure.
sounds like a (you) issue
when i first got VR i'd play for hours without break and by the end of it i'd only feel pain on my nose because my first headset was front heavy kek
youtube.com
shooting gallery
that's quake 4
B-BUT YOU CAN WALK ON THAT GAME AND YOU CAN AIM I WANNA PLAY BALATRO VR WAHHH WAHH
what do you even need VR for if you dont play anything in the first person?
why do you care?
It’s just a bad idea. Unworkable.
I would in an instant are you joking? With full dive you literally don't need to give a single fuck about reality.
you get to stay in dreamland forever
I fail to see any downsides.
How's this game? It's on sale currently
slop
This seriously needs to be banned. I'm tired of ESLs screeching about how everything is (blank)slop. They truly ruined the Internet.
it is woke
why do you give money to subhuman animals who fantasize about cutting your dick off?
Slim pickings with VR brutha
The biggest improvement between VR and the same genre on flat games is melee weapon fighting and throwing objects. It's not generally flawless like shooting and has new issues that need competent tech to solve, but melee fighting on a flat game is a surrogate activity where you effectively pretend you are sword fighting by pressing a button. There's no comparison against 6dof control. Players abstract melee fighting even further by playing turned based RPGs, it's all fine, but I can't even pretend this is the same activity. In this field VR offers something completely new.
Using your hands and head as an input for video games is extremely limiting for gameplay
So are gamepads, keyboards, mice, flight sticks, etc. It seems like a controllers get more useful in one of two opposite directions. You can get more abstract by pressing buttons and constructing an abstract fascimile of an activity you want to represent, or you can head towards simulation where we expell abstract systems in lieu of just doing the thing we're trying to represent directly, which is now easier because you're much closer to being a human placed directly inside an environment with more human-like controls. But some abstractions like RTS would work fine in VR and you could do things like 3d slection. In the worst cases for VR, VR can still just be display and you hold a different plastic thing. It's backwards compatible.
that's quake 4
It could be anything. Every VR FPS plays exactly the same.
It could be anything. Every VR FPS plays exactly the same.
You tell us what that's supposed to mean when it runs the gamut from full tactical shooter with full manual of arms to arena shooter VR conversions where you practically fly. I guess all FPS on any platform is the exactly the same, that's a lot easier to believe than "I was mistaken"
Boxing games feel amazing in VR, like Thrill of the Fight because it's 1:1 with your hands. But games with melee weapons always feel off to me, the simulated weight of a weapon always adds a weird disconnect between your motions and whats happening in the game
It means you have extremely primitive Wolfenstein 3D-like movement and you just point your arm at something and pull the trigger. You aren't navigating complex geometry in real life. You're barely moving at all in real life, you're just stood there, like at a shooting gallery.
Once you have played one, you've played them all and VR makes the experience less interesting than just using a keyboard and mouse.
the biggest disconnect is weapons being stuck on enemies, or enemy attacks being animations instead of interactable physics simulations so you can't do things like direct their weapon with your own weapon. Big weapons I just teach myself to use slower, but requiring two hands helps a lot because you become less flexible.
Once you have played one
So when you are going to play one?
You're barely moving at all in real life, you're just stood there
less interesting than just using a keyboard and mouse.
i too have fond memories of being in the firefall bus 15 years ago with mark kern (he was the driver)
