What is the target audience for this game?

Im 23. I have 1k+ hours in skyrim and 300+ in BG3. I saw this came out the other day and had almost zero interest in buying it.
The graphics look good, but why would anyone be interested in buying a 20+ year old game and playing through two decades of jank in 2025? Like if Half Life was remade in UE5 who the fuck would play it?
Who is buying this slop? manchild millennials?

popular game bad!

me no like popular game!

how original.

Skyrim players.

Like if Half Life was remade in UE5 who the fuck would play it?

100 million people

Im 23

You were four years old when Oblivion came out.
You didn't have the chance to play it when it was THE open-world RPG to play.

Before the Remaster, I found myself wanting to play it about once a year. Skyrim's fun for me, but Oblivion was MY Elder Scrolls game. It's what I grew up with. I have serious nostalgia for it.

I stopped being able to seriously play it around 2018 due to how out of date the engine was. The original game is VERY unstable on modern systems and crashes frequently.
Now that the Remaster is out, I have my game back. I can Oblivion again. I'm happy.

me because it was one of my first real pc games

the type of people who think putting body type A/B in your gaymes instead of gender is how you save the trannies

why would anyone be interested in buying a 20+ year old game

What rock have you been under the last decade?

I have thousands of hours in Skyrim, but I never played Oblivion. For years people kept telling me Oblivion has the best quests out of any game in TES so this remaster is an opportunity for me to see if that's fact.
So far it's pretty good.

African Ameriniggers

game is bad because its le old

Thats an extremely narrow-minded opinion.

Me. I'm 34, and enjoyed Oblivion much more than Skyrim. It's not that difficult.

Blacks have zero interest in fantasy

better than being a brown zoomer like you

If your favorite streamer said it was good then you wouldn't have posted this.

Streamers are eating this up.
Fucking Gawr Gura is playing it.

You have to consider the fact that Vanilla Oblivion is almost non-functional out of the box on modern systems. Todd could either:

release a new Oblivion patch that would break every mod ever made for the game, many of which are abandoned and will never be updated to work on the new patch

or

release a remake/remaster from scratch that actually works on modern systems out of the box

I don't get why these people are popular, I tried watching her stream but she's not even entertaining.

incels

It’s hard to admit, but the truth must be told—
No modded Skyrim, however bold,
Can match the shine, the visual glow,
Of Oblivion’s remaster, stealing the show.

bruh stfu this combat is no different from elden ring but with worse animations

It’s really not that old kid you’ll find out someday when you grow up.

Im 23

stopped reading. anyone under the age of 27 does not have a reputable opinion and I will not be reading the rest of your post. simple as

its the le jank game with funni npcs
perfect streamerbait

Skyrim: gud because 14 year old

Oblivion: bad because 19 year old

Stop being a fucking retard, anon.

nobody has played skyrim in like 7 years bro
its time to move on you aren't 16 anymore

Oblivion was and always will be the same boring as game it always was. Its gay and for nerds. The definition of "nothing doing"

t.97

Good call. They were literally in diapers when Oblivion was first released.

weeb simps. Imagine being such a creature.

From a business standpoint, it makes no sense. There's almost no audience overlap.
The only reasonable explanation is that TES VI will have a lot to do with the realm of Oblivion and they want the assets ready.

make amazing game

people play it

"reeee why are people playing this game"

you joke but remastered hit 4 million players in less than a week

Made for those who have nostalgia for Oblivion and for those who started with Skyrim and never looked back.

From a business standpoint, it makes no sense.

It sold 4 million copies in a couple days. You have no idea what you're talking about

so she's basically Nyanners but incredibly successful.

From a business standpoint, it makes no sense.

There hasn't been a new Elder Scrolls game in 14 years

The last one sold 60 million copies

This was purely from name recognition alone at the time

Because of how well the previous title in the series was received

Remaking that game for modern audiences "Makes no business sense"

Fucking retard.

Yes, actually. That's a really good way to explain it.

sounds like skill issue kid, get rekt

Me. I have tons of runs in modded skyrim but didn't touch oblivion since skyrim came out, it looked way too outdated.

but skyblivion

Cope. Skyblivion will never look as good as oblimastered, there are some things you just can't do in the shitty creation engine

didn't she stop vtubing? i don't follow the scene but I heard that some days ago

It’s nostalgia bait, but also better than the original game so it’s trying to appeal to old fags while making Elder Scrolls relevant to zoomers

My Bethesda game modlists are always like 80% makeshift texture packs, mesh mods, etc cobbled together to make it a visually appealing thing to journey through the world, this is basically like Oblivion being packaged with an ultra high end and fully comprehensive graphics overhaul that I would normally spend 150 hours modding and troubleshooting onto the original so I think it was worth it.

file.jpg - 3840x2160, 1.43M

Black fantasy nerds exist they are just extremely niche and a minority compared to the ones obsessed with Sonic and Dragonball

Honestly it makes perfect sense.
Skyrim's audience is still bigger than you'd expect, and 90% of those people have never played Oblivion because of it's age, so the remaster is basically like a whole new elder scrolls game for them.

It makes perfect sense as a business move too. Oblivion and general TES fans are starved for content so they follow the leaks closely. It doesn't even matter if you believe them or not, the idea of an Oblivion remaster is now in your mind. Then they shadowdrop it so retarded youtubers don't have time to convince people that it sucks, and people get sucked up in the hype and buy the game immediately. The remaster is faithful enough that the fans love it, and they start spreading the word. The hype then reaches the Skyrim onlys, and once it grows big enough it reaches the casuals that have never even played a TES game before.

With one simple chess move Todd is recruiting new fans and getting them ready to buy TES 6 when it comes out in a few years.

Also considering Bethesda's infamy for "dumbing down" the game systems every new game, going back to an earlier title is incredibly promising too. People will now expect shit like better magic system and attributes in TES 6, and they'll have to oblige.

What is the target audience for this game?

retards

I was looking foward for it but then I saw 120 GB to download and refund it.
I then took OG Oblivion instead and even vanilla the game is charming. Im 25, played a lot of RPG including Daggerfall (Unity), Morrowind and Skyrim. I always avoided Oblivion because of the memes, jank and the leveling system.
Playing it so far, roleplaying as a Demon/Deadra hunter. Shit is pretty damn fun so far, the game has a lot of charm and like Morrowind you can break it in any way you want. The leveling system isnt so bad but the leveling artefacts are so bad its unreal.
Next playthrough Im going to mod most of the thing I dont like and it will be even more comfy. Never listen to what Anon Babble says, should've known by now.

Todd at his heart is an incredibly savvy businessman and marketer. That's always been his bread and butter. He took a niche 90s fantasy game franchise with a very small fanbase and turned it into one of the most well known and best selling IPs of all time, he knows what he's doing with this shit. The fact that people could see the success of it in real time and still shrug just tells you why most people can't pull of what he has.

She's quitting her corpo job (The Gawr Gura character) and going back to her independent identity (Senzawa)

Millennials who played it in middle school are now in their 30s.

Im 23

You were 4 when oblivion came out, obviously you wouldn't get it zoom zoom

I'm 31.
I played Oblivion in middle school at the age of 11.

Like if Half Life was remade in UE5 who the fuck would play it?

bm steamdb.png - 352x400, 156.86K

Explain Saarfield then

why would anyone be interested in buying a 20+ year old game and playing through two decades of jank in 2025

the whole point of a remaster is to get rid of the jank

Unironically, Todd is a space autist. He's an Elon fan and some interview talked about how he had some super expensive SpaceX model on display on the middle of his desk in his office. I think he wanted to make a genuinely good space game but the competency and experience of his dev team did not allow it, the game went through development hell eating up resources and Microsoft came in and he cut his losses and had them release it in the most playable state they could. I'm almost certain it really eats him up that the game came out the way it did.

I'm 44. It's so fucking over.

starfield gets clowned on

swen gets all the awards, modd goward sits silently and gets clowned on harder

sharred space comes out and he is clowned on even more

avowed comes out

all of a sudden he is redeemed because le physics

now this

Now I understand what the bible meant when it said that Satan is the god of this world.

their games are great and immersive.you just suck up people into it,by the time they've spend 30 hours+ they didn't even finish the game but have a whole universe in their mind.

It's obvious looking at the marketing and the final product what the plan for Starfield was: a thousand planets to explore.
That's it. That's all it was ever going to be. It needed a thousand planets, nothing else mattered. Should we have interesting characters, memorable factions to join or fight, good combat, actually filling the planets with literally fucking anything? No. We just need a thousand planets and everything else will just sort itself out somehow.
There's running out of ideas during development, and then there's never actually getting further than the fucking back of the box blurb.

this harms the zoomnigger

Why are their tastes so bad? Why can the ONLY play the latest slop to be shilled by their megacorps?

He wanted to make tenth planet but loadbryo simply could not handle this and the decision to revive procgen was ultimately catastrophic.

It's because zoomers have shit taste. For example, synthetic man might be based, but the games he actually likes are absolute dogshit. And his zoomie fans like them too simply because he does. Literal braindead retards.

Correct. I think a lot of people also miss the range of audience Bethesda is able to attract. People will compare Skyrim to something like Dark Souls not realizing that Skyrim is built to attract escapist people first and actual gamer types who want to be challenged and learn mechanics second. The type of person who finds games like Second Life, the Sims appealing (notably a lot of women) can get the same kind of enjoyment playing a game like Skyrim where you can kind of just fuck around, decorating your house and picking flowers and shit.

Starfeild was also his personal baby he wanted to do for a long time, considering that now he took more and more directive approach and bigger role in his leadership within Bethesda.

Some ex-employees said that in each game he became less involved with the little programmers and team around because of Bethesda grew in numbers of employees, he used to be available and could help to monitor things better. Its only with Starfeild that things were very different and now he was much more hard to get now, Microsoft should've played a lot in that.

I have a feeling that Todd and maybe a couple of the old guard where the only people who were really passionate about making Starfield, but most of the actual developers weren't as interested so it came out feeling like a game no one wanted to make.

Maybe he should redo Morrowind as well.

Bethesda is going like the ship of Theseus

That's Source engine and it was first released over 10 years ago.
The TES equivalent of Black Mesa would be Skyblivion, which actually does look promising.

The timegap between HL1 and Black Mesa pre-Xen release was 17 years, the final version with full Xen wouldn't release until 2020 which is 22 years after HL1.
The timegap between Oblivion and its Remaster is 19 years.

For years people kept telling me Oblivion has the best quests out of any game in TES

You were lied to

Black Mesa started in like 2005, though, as a response to HL:Source.

The scale and ambition of Oblivion is still impressive 20 years later, just compare it to Awoved that released recently, Oblivion is unironically still a more impressive game. Modern gaming has nothing like it

why would anyone be interested in buying a 20+ year old game and playing through two decades of jank in 2025?

you put one thousand hours into a lobotomized copy of that game tailor made for retards and women, so...

Stfu kid

Starfield is one of the best selling games of the generation and caters to a different crowd completely from fantasy fans. Bethesda already has a monopoly on fantasy with elder scrolls, post apocalypse with Fallout and now they are a massive juggernaut with Starfield with barely any competition.

The younger bethesda developers that joined mostly because of fallout, skyrim and oblivion. It's very clear that scifi is out of their wheelhouse completely. Also this is the first game Bethesda has built after they've expanded greatly after the success of their previous games, they've always been a small developer of less than a 100 people and now they're going through growing pains to figure out how to manage projects with larger development teams while other developers have it all figured out with thousands of people.

oh my lord bruh frfr da numbers scares me :skull:

come back when your done being scared of literal hallways

Perhaps for the better, perhaps for the worse. Whatever happens it's best not to invest oneself too much into a company.

Im 23

Go change your fucking diaper faggot

Hey guys this game doesn't appeal to me specifically at all. Convince me to buy it

No

I never got into Elder Scrolls growing up, maybe played a few hours of each and got bored. Now I'm balls deep in the remaster having more fun than any other game released in the last couple years. Plus, the game is only $1 if you don't feel like dealing with piracy sites, so I wouldn't have even been mad if I didn't end up enjoying it.

The target audience is boomers, millenials, and skyrim zoomers that didn't play original Oblivion because of bad graphics

thread should have ended here
this is like the 7th thread I've seen with this same fucking post
"WOW I JUST DON'T GET IT I DONT LIKE THIS GAME WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS GAME WHAT IS GOING ON SO SURREAL THAT PEOPLE LIKE GAMES I DONT LIKE WHO WANTS THIS"
it's bordering on brain damaged honestly

It's funny when Anon Babble is the home of steamchart numbers and if it doesnt hit some concurrent playercount then it flopped and nobody likes the game.
