They changed the points system this season, you now gain or lose based off of your performance, not your team. So no more getting dragged down by retards (also no more coasting on the success of others). I managed to get to gold 3 a lot quicker this season versus last.

Otherwise yeah ranked is garbage, I only play it to get to the gold rewards, and then completely drop it.

I figure no abilities as well as loadout customization would separate them a bit.
