From everything I've seen it just seems like a woefully out of touch attempt to hop on a trend that's already died down thanks to the amount of shit additions that ended up being huge let downs. It's not entirely to say Marathon is the same as every extraction shooter, but it doesn't really stand out in its own attempt either. It's basically a watered down Apex with extraction elements instead of it being a traditional BR. Generic FPS gameplay, awful overall visuals paired with a neon saturated "woah super futuristic and punk" color palette, generic hero ability shit crossed with a poor implementation of the loot/extraction elements that doesn't really grip you.
I hate to be entirely negative about it since I do have some desire to play it, but the price tag would have to be free for me to even consider it, but that would only end up being the death of the game when rampant cheaters start playing to RMT on it.

I can't wait to see what sort of MTX they shove into it. It would be impressive if they could outdo the shit they did to Destiny.

They all wildly missed the point of it unfortunately. Dark and Darker could have potentially kept the whole thing alive longer if they didn't end up embroiled in the legal shit fest, and if all those somehow even more jank clones didn't come out before it actually got its release. But everything else fucking blows dicks.
Gay Zone Cumstain had shit performance, worse/more egregiously cheat driven AI than Tarkov somehow, and lackluster loot.
Arena Breakout has got to be the most bait and switch game of a lifetime. On paper it should theoretically be a good game, but it's plagued by so many fundamental issues that it just doesn't feel good at all.
All the other shit in between like the dank and danker clones and the "original" concept gameplay, some other indie stuff that fell under the radar. It all tries to capture what Tarkov has, and it fails, and that's sad since Tarkov constantly shoots itself since Nikita is a certified GENIUS.

There's a world where extraction games can still work, but everyone's either too busy promising their copy of a game is better than the original (and then failing) or making things like Marathon that completely miss the mark...

I don't have an issue with the WWE Gundam-Wolf because they perfectly explain why they can utilize the technology to turn into Gundam Wolf and in setting turning or embodiying a Primal is already done like half a dozen times, and its fundamentally the same concept but using Electrope instead of collective faith.

Honestly, I can't believe I'm about to say this, but the most fun I've had with an extraction shooter has probably been Mecha Break, and that's mostly just because it's a mecha game with fast combat where player engagements are hectic spamfests as opposed to me getting sniped by someone camping in a window on the 10th floor of a skyscraper or in a bush 600 meters away.

As an extraction shooter normie, I don't understand why you would do anything more than quickly loot up a POI and escape 4 minutes in for every match.

Why, in Marathon, would I stay until the 25 minute mark? Backpack space is limited anyway, are there like special things that spawn in the last five minutes? Is the tradeoff that most teams will be competing for this and the last extraction zone will be a hotspot?
