If you're an old man with arthritis you won't enjoy real-time combat elements and if you're an ADHD-afflicted zoomer you won't enjoy turn-based combat period, but arguing that the game isn't good is retarded, it's really well-made, well-written, and has excellent visuals (wish it didn't stutter occasionally when I used DLSS on ultra though).

The boss buckbroke me. The boss makes 2 copies of itself and I got so tired of dodging 7 times and avoiding becoming frozen every time it was their turn. Jesus Christ. All the side content so far makes the main game feel like I'm playing on story mode.

Verso in the last act looks like pure shit, it's like he knows he must die but his mind is in constant conflict. the only one who knows about how he feels are Monoco and Esquie, who ultimately support him like giant bros to the end.
Verso died saving Alicia, and it's heavily implied Alicia did something stupid and naive to get her into a position that needed saving from the fire. So her mother blames her for her son's death. The scarred face is just a metaphor for her resentment of Alicia.
It's not only for Maelle's sake, he's made it very clear he's tried of living, and even the fragment of his soul wants to stop painting.
I liked it, the expedition plot was really cool too, but I like more personal stories

Yet the humans clearly have history from before the fracture, and Verso mentions doing stuff pre fracture. Is this just implanted histories and Verso lying? I’m pretty sure some of of the Gestral’s mention hanging out with humans before the fracture as well

So anons, what are your opinions on the each party member in combat? For me it goes:
S tier:
Verso- He can do a ton of hits in a turn, all of which hit really hard. He requires a little bit of setup, but not a lot, and is pretty much always the hardest hitter while still being able to survive easily.
Maelle-Also hits extremely hard, but requires a bit of set up, which isn't that hard to do, but unlike Verso, how much comes down to rng rather than is guaranteed. Still hits like a fucking truck from the moment you get her, to the very end of the game.
A tier:
Monoco- Can do pretty much everything, and has some really useful skills early on, some of which I think are the best support skills in the game. Unfortunately his damage isn't as good as Verso or Maelle, unless there is a skill I haven't seen for him yet. His good skills do have pretty high ap cost unfortunately, and I guess getting them can be a pain if you don't know what you are looking for.
B Tier:
Sciel- She can do both damage and support pretty well, sort of like Monoco, but can't match him in either. With the right weapon she requires hardly any setup though.
Gustave- People say he's really mediocre, but I found him to be really useful when used in conjuncture with Maelle. Even so, he's kind of Maelle's bitch when it comes to his own usefulness, since without him setting her up his utility is mostly shitty with the exception of his break.
C tier:
Lune- People say she's good, but I don't see how any other party member doesn't immediately beat her out. Her damage is just ok, her support is also just fine(though that makes her the worst support character), and she requires too much setup that nobody else has to put up with, even if she has a weapon that reduces that. She's not bad, but when everyone else is either good or great, just being ok doesn't make her worth it.

If you've been following this shit in any way it should be extremely obvious that this is what's happening. The game has had a very deliberately social media driven marketing campaign that is clearly designed to give off the impression that the game is some kind of grassroots semi-indie return to form make for 'real gamers who appreciate classics' that people are naturally and organically championing for its merit, but it's just obviously complete slop that's embarrassingly terrible and that different places have paid shills trying to fit in with the culture of whatever they're posing on.
People praising the game sound like YA booktockers. The actual gameplay somehow combines the worst aspects of Final Fantasy style turn based combat with the most shallow aspects of Souls in such a way that the result ends up being effectively a shitty rhythm game where any possible depth of either turn based or action games barely matters given you just pressing buttons at the designated time is what determines everything. The story actually does take after FFX, in being a silly mystery box with a gimmicky premise where you have to play for hours to find out anything, and the music is...whatever this is: It's embarrassing shit deliberately hyped through almost clever, artificially low key marketing.

I seem to have fucked up my builds for both Verso and Maelle since they never managed to really do that much damage, they were useful but my main carry was Sciel, she not only kept the team alive but also dealt insane damage consistently.
It's not difficult to make her work, you just have to buff her crit. Trick gets all four stains, then next turn she does a 10 hit attack for a squillion damage to every enemy.

The ending where Alicia stays in the painting doesn't even make sense. Clea is so much more skilled she could just waltz in there, beat Alicia's ass, and force her out of the painting. Verso would definitely help her do it too. It's hard to imagine her respecting her sister's wish to die in there

Honestly with all the awful ends that some of the expeditions meet, I don't even blame the ones that decide "You know what, fuck this, we're just going to try and find whatever peace we can before the gommage takes us." Lune early on you can pump out 11k+ damage each turn with mayhem + free aim pictos. Later on she just needs 100% crit for elemental trick+genesis which is easy to get with the +25% from critical burn. Use Sciel's intervention on her and you don't even have to wait for 2 turns.
Mob groups literally just die in 1 turn with Lune.
Monoco's best support skill is giving out shields and it quickly gets invalidated when you get the shielding tint picto and everything else.
Sciel's All Set, Intervention, and Fortune's Fury remain useful all throughout the game.
