Analyst says Square Enix is kicking itself over the success of Clair Obscur

Who gives a fuck what analyst have to say.? They have been mostly wrong for the last 15 years and this comes from someone who's happy Expedition 33 is doing well.

imagine still playing final trantasy

I find it very funny that squeenix still refuses to give us 4niar gameplay while other studios blow past them in sales with that very system.

Londo.jpg - 735x576, 166.1K

sounds retarded because the soulslike shit is why it's successful and square enix wasn't going to do that

Sqeenix is run by retards and the "analysts" they hire are scammers extracting money from those gullible Japanese boomers running the company. I mean cmen Sqeenix once decided to just dump half a dozen JRPGs onto Steam in the same week, which predictably cannibalized each other's sales and all of them underperformed.

What the fuck is this retard talking about? Octopath Traveler sold millions and that didn't change the trajectory of FF.

Why is everyone just selectively choosing to forget that when FFXV came out... Persona 5 came out later that year and was massively successful

SE makes more turn based rpgs than action rpgs and expedition sold way less than literall any numbered final fantasy game.. so besides bullshit clickbait i really dont see it

Octopath Traveler

realistic turn-based JRPG.

???

probably because ff15 sold more..

rebirth is the best jrpg i have played since ps1 and snes days and the only modern jrpg so far that nailed the feel of that golden era

We get Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler from them. But those series are rooted in conservative budgeting allowing them to retracing the past rather than pushing forward with the technological flexing seen in the numbered FFs. Unlike their contemporaries, they don't believe in the 4nair genre enough to back it with the money it would warrant.

so is clair obscur better than FF16?

If they gave FFXVI actual difficulty options on the first playthrough and not meme items that play the game for you they wouldn't be thinking this. The game suffered severely because it was so fucking easy on the first go. Mobs were lethargic with long response gaps. You had the DMC combat director and you handcuffed him so your game was accessible? Also the plot of 2/3's of the game being "slavery bad" was so dumb only an out of touch Japanese salaryman could come up with it.

probably

analyst says

So some retard made a scenario up in his head, some other retard wrote an article about the first retard's made-up bullshit and a final turbo-retard made a screenshot of the article and posted it on Anon Babble...

if square-enix tried to do it, it would probably cost 5 trillion dollars and be considered unprofitable

So this was just completely wrong.
I guess it makes sense. Why couldn't a turn-based game have realistic graphics? There's no reason, he just insisted that was true and welp, here we are

.png - 616x222, 23.38K

So it's just someone saying something but I believe his bullshit. They were always way off mark for this and always needed more criticism for it, it's very "oh that kind of game doesn't work anymore, we need to turn everything into a shitty cinematic action game or we'll never be taken seriously!"

I prefer 16 over it because i like the combat more, i just cant stand the parry shit anymore and that its now infecting turn based games is ridiculous to me

Same, despite 16's flaws it was a far better experience and the DLC was great. Final Fantasy Mode especially does a lot to alleviate problems I just wish it wasn't locked behind NG+.

analyst

He hasn’t been playing videogames for more than 2 years

That's some good clussy

His point is that octopath also sold 1 million at a higher price than E33 and with a lower budget and square didn’t give a fuck. Similar shit happened with bravely games. Square still didn’t care. The analyst is an idiot thats all he is saying.

qrd on the difficulty modes?

This post is going to piss a certain schizo off real bad

just to clarify what i mean by "feel of the golden era of jrpg" i mean that it feels like you go on a journey and travel around the world and it feels like a journe and traveling like for example grandia on ps1. Some modern games come close (dragon quest 8 and 11) but rebirth is one of the few modern ones that really fucking nails it.

You have to go through the entire game first in order to play the real game. It's that retarded.

rebirth is the best jrpg

rebirth is a slop action RPG filled with niggers and homos thanks to pajeets.
Expedition 33 mogs it

analysts says don't believe the hype game journalists are still winning

Persona 5

Methaphor, Persona 5 came out like 13 years ago for the PS3

You all realize if Square were to do another mainline FF turn-based game it'd be shit like FF13 right?

Where's the Yoshitpiss sad pic anon?

yoshitpiss.png - 1074x667, 938.73K

FFXVI sold more than Expedition 33.

one button dmc for retards

What combat, LMAO?

wahhh my mommy doesnt love meeee waaaahhh

its ok dude

yeah but thats not because its turnbased thats because they havent been able to make a good final fantasy since 10

The combat in Rebirth is much more fun than 33's. This comment makes no sense

Rebirth>Metaphor>Clair Obscura>FF16

nah, they should do more Type A Type B shit
surely that will help sell JRPGs

They are not "kicking themselves" over it because it's squeenix.
They will never ever ever admit they are wrong.

Rebirth is the best FF game since 9

What are they wrong about?

OP is probably 'shitting the bed', says Anon Babble expert

You heard it here first: OP took a dump on his mattress.

Not giving people what they've been asking for for 25 years now (four niggas in a row turn based rpg).

They still release turn based RPGs

why is everyone running with this narrative? legit every news site has the same headline and ive heard a million youtubers and random internet niggas regurgitate the same opinion

anon no one fucking played rebirth but you shut up already

what have they done with the FF franchise other than push out slop?
they could've turned it into their own version of dark souls or whatever but they're too scared to piss off their dumbass fanbase and take a risk
just like pokefaggots

buy three copies of BDFFHD

Not FF, stupid fuck.

Weird cope. It's a great game and most people who played it loved it

The combat in the FF7 remakes is the best combat the franchise has ever had. Why should they change that?

OK but they’ll make a literal souls like action rpg like FFXVI… Clair is less souls like than 16 dummy

Actually only autistic purists didn't play it. Everyone who enjoys good videogames played it

SAR SAR BLODY BITCH BASTARD BUY FINAL FANTASY 16 RIGH TNOW !!!

Clair Obscura is a mediocre game that will be forgotten in 6 months when the fotm hype dies

goty

if the hype last six months then it isnt a fotm retard, how long do you expect people to talk about a single player experience regularly after beating it in order for you to feel its earned its hype?

Baldur's Gate

Expedition 33

Metaphor

Oof, those three really kicked XVI's ass in an insane way, and not because XVI wasn't turn based but because it was the most high budget mid AF game I've ever played, also, what the devs said.

If anything this just gives me hope that they'll return to form for XVII.

Square Enix is a company chasing Western AAA profits.
The kinda league where you don't even wake up if you don't reach 6 million at 70 dollars a piece.

Clair Obscur is doing fine but it is a 30 dollar game that sold 1.5 million. The only big thing they have over Squenix is doing it without an uberinflated budget and a decade in development. Not the genre, setting or reception.
That would only happen if the studio keeps the momentum and puts out another smash hit with 10m sales down the line.

What kinda schizo shit is this I’m talking shit about 16. Clair is superior.

square enix kicking themselves for not making a game thats objectively worse than their last game

Anyone who thinks Clair Obscura is better than FF7 Rebirth is a tasteless retard

Square put out a bunch of turn based RPGs every year I dont see what apparently problem they would be kicking themselves over

waaaah i cant enjoy a turn based rpg unless the box says final fantasy waaaaaah

My mommy does in fact love me, which is what allows me to hate on Stillbirth. My mother would never raise her only child to love this piece of garbage.

Best combat the franchise ever had

That would be FFX

thinking Expedition 33 is freaking Square-enix out

Lol no, Xenoblade and Persona have them freaking out more because now Nintendo and Sony have an alternative rpg brand they can depend on.

FF7 but shittified with Ubislop towers and pointless filler side quests.

Better than an original game.

Anon, Clair Obscur is no second coming of Jesus but if the people who praise it are tasteless, then you've literally had your tongue amputated and hose-fed shit your entire life.

Everyone could have seen E33 do a decent job and been happy out it without the shill campaign and this literal who Dutch faggot coming out of the woodwork to say "durrrr probably this affects Squeenix."
Just cause Squeenix has been ruining their company for decades doesn't alter reality and make E33 more than a 7/10. The 'realistic' graphics are butt ugly, the story is derivative netflix slop for women, and the gameplay is 90% watching enemies attack you and parrying them.

later

earlier, Square delayed FFXV by two months to get out of P5s way.
This was right after one of their customer surveys which had a explicit Are you going to purchase Persona 5 question in it

About to start E33, is it a cutscene-heavy game at the beginning or am I free to fuck around like 20 minutes in

now is the perfect time for squeenix to re-release this kusoge. the new action turn based fans would love it.

Why does everyone pretend that SE don't make turn based games?

its kinda linear and story-locked for the first two dungeons then it opens up a little with some side stuff, and once you get the boat it fully opens up and you can do whatever you want as long as you can physically get to it with more traversal upgrades and thus more access to stuff as you go through the story

This is what 99% of you faggots have been saying since the 90s. Suddenly you like turnbased?

FF13 had pretty good combat actually. The issue was the rest of the game being a corridor simulator.

Sorry its three dungeons, the first part then the water part then the forest to get to the village, then when they let you out of the village you can get the world map vehicle and explore most of that first island. Then theres one more story dungeon before you get the swim upgrade and can go full fuck around. Theres three or four optional things to do on the first island alone though, its the most packed part of the map location wise.

The game sucked in every way. Not just difficulty. MMO devs humiliated FF.

make XVII conditional turn based like X

add good waifus like Rikku, Lulu, Yuna, Serah, Yuffie, etc.

sell 100 million copies

wow it was so difficult!

I've boycotted the last several mainline FF games but I still bother to look at them. This shillgame of the month isn't even on that level of relevancy.

all sqeenix has to do is formally unveil the chrono trigger remake and E33 is instamogged

FF:Mobile DMC sold 3 million in like a year (after which sales cratered), while Clair Obscur remains top selling game on Steam two weeks after release with 1M sold first three days. You're absolutely delusional if you think this won't surpass MMO Team Slop in lifetime sales.

Square Enix games have no leg
They can't kick themselves

Yoshit-Piss sisters...

I doubt it. SE wood just say its a financial failure for not immediately selling 10 million copies and bury the franchise after half of the games budget was used to make anime and merchandise tie-in products.

Persona

But Persona is also on PC and Xbox. Sega isn't going to accept any Sony bribes after they kicked out thatone ugly Snoy.

Cheap soulless indie slop with a soundtrack copied from Nier

Nah son

I do think it's really funny how full of himself Naoki Yoshida was by saying photo realistic graphics can't work with a JRPG because of the commands having to command someone to shoot instead of pressing the button. Meanwhile for years there have been Total war game that are close to photo realistic that you command full armies.
It tells me he doesn't play games or the games he does play and are exposed to is an incredibly limited subset of games which wouldn't be so bad for an average dev but he's a Director and Producer of a game studio within Square Enix. No wonder Square Enix are starving, creatively when the guys who represent their company say dumb shit like Yoshida but thankfully journos are calling him out I particularly like this article which straight up says he is tired of the gaslighting done by Square Enix and Yoshida by saying you can't have a turnbased/ command based FF game.
windowscentral.com/gaming/clair-obscur-expedition-33-utterly-destroys-square-enixs-gaslighting-over-final-fantasy-turn-based-combat

It's safe to say the cult of YoshiP being seen as a godlike developer is over.

fpbp

square would go bankrupt if their games only sold as much as this meager indiecrap garbage.

Analyst says

Have these niggas EVER been right?

realistic

does this even mean anything anymore? 33 is not realistic in any aspect. the ugly skin, ugly hair, ad bad body proportions of the models are uncanny valley 101. And let's not pretend all the magic and monsters are "realistically imaginary" we are adult there.

It is likely to sell 10m+ in lifetime sales. On a budget of a AA game.

YoshiP says

Has YoshiP EVER been right?

That was probably just an excuse anyway. They thought the market of people who wanted real time combat was bigger than the market of people who wanted turn based so they made a real time game, simple as that.

I wish you niggers would learn to read articles instead if only the headlines.
It's referring to a quote by Yoshida from Square Enix and it's Photo-realism, photo-realistic graphics that is the subject.

And then you woke up and it was all a dream (just like the plot of the game)

let me just make up a bullshit number after this game with its most marketing sold 1 million to 2 million

you are fucked in the head

9 years ago, just like the other game mentioned was

Seething SE bitch shill lol.

3m lifetime sales for FF16 btw :)

It will surpass FF16 lifetime sales in a month or two.

It does once and for all break apart the mindset that FF mainline games can be any genre and it would sell, because Naoki Yoshida once said he thought that if you wanted to turn FF into an FPS then that is fine.
Simply put, FF fans have a strict definition of what makes up an FF singleplayer mainline title and action based or an fps is not it.

Touched a nerve huh chang

FF16 flopped and shitted

Was ff7r or birth even open world? Or have an overworld? I know rebirth had cids plane but wasn't it all scripted? All I could think about while in the overworld in 33 is that "wow, why couldn't they do this for ff7r?"

Final fantasy was already shit, why the fuck would I want a WESTERNIZED final fantasy like holy shit worst of both worlds

It's not that there's a strict definition of what an FF game is, it's just that I liked the games and not the brand. If they pivot the series into another genre that I like then I'll still like it even though it's changed but if I don't care about the new style then the title isn't going to save them
Sticking to the classic formula is just statistically safest as it's the one common thing among all their players but that doesn't make it a rule

sells worse than the worst FF game

Why would they kick themselves?

It could have worked if they did it competently. A GoT world doesn't work unless you have court intrigue like FFT with likeable characters and villains, less plot armor than most stories, and a genuine dark/grittiness to include things like rape, torture, and human sacrifice. None of which they were willing to commit to in a FF game.

Square wanted something that could reach 20 million copies. Expedition 33 won't hit anywhere near that.

Yeah that's you which is fine, but it's also not the majority of the FF fanbase.
So the strict definition what makes up an FF game

Party based

Turn based or Command based (ATB)

Magic/ spells and elemental weaknesses

A good story

Compelling cast of characters

RPG customisation, different gear, items, weapons not simply a statistical upgrade of 5% more damage

Inns

Overworld

Cid

Eikons/ Summoners/ Eidolons

Hot female character or characters

Final Villain is a God level existential threat

Multiple locations

Dungeons

Amazing music

Prelude

These are the aboslute fundamentals, there are more which make up an FF game and yes other games have these elements but as I said without these absolute core fundamentals then it doesn't feel like a mainline FF game.

this. While i'm glad Clair Obscur is doing well for itself... it's doing well for an indie game. Final Fantasy games need to sell a bajillion fuckoff copies to justify their bloated budget. Clair Obscur is celebrating clearing 1 million in it's launch week. If a FF game did that someone would probably have to commit sudoku in japan. FF is a victim of it's own lavishness and squares inability to budget or control it's projects correctly.

Expedition 33 had no brand loyalty, it's the first IP from a new studio, it was made on a tiny budget with just over 30 core devs and it's a highly profitable game.

If Square Enix can't make a comparable game then that logically tells me that they do not have the talent in their dev studio if they think they need to bloat their games with hundreds and sometimes thousands of developers just to reach a comparable amount of sales. FF16 might have sold 3million units but it also cost $250million to make and I'm someone who liked FF16 but it is absolutely a flawed game that felt very barebones in gameplay with little to no replay value.

Is this game even going to outsell Rebirth? And to be honest, I have seen a lot of people say they don't like turn-based and refuses to play them so I don't blame Square for adjusting accordingly.

just hope Kingdom Sharts IV.365/24*7 change into a turn-based game
then all the orphans that praised shit like redditbirth will taste some what they cause to the FF IP

Turn-BASED Gods win again

All they really had to do is regularly release a turnbased FF and then do whatever else they wanted with spinoffs.
Atlus figured this out, why can't they? Main line releases with familiar gameplay, different shit in spinoffs.

People don't understand how Squeenix operates. They want those western AAA sales figures, but they're not in the genre that can achieve them. Hence the constant shifting towards more widely-played action games. They COULD develop turn-based JRPGs, but they're well aware it won't sell them however many millions of copies they want.

FF12_basch.jpg - 312x283, 24.66K

FF is a shadow of its former self, but even now, 1M copies is not a “success” for FF standards, LMAO.

they don't want to make games that sells only 2-3 millions, that's a loss for them. And don't pretend like you'd accept those puke ugly graphics from a real studio.

Then they should make good action games that dont suck shit

I don't know, man. SaGa has been killing it with re-releases and new games. Is it the creator still being involved? Surprisingly consistent.

it wont sell more than another 100K; All shill streamers got their checks and did their promo. Now you are gonna be a dollar store/steam sales noname products forever.

FF16 sold 3 million and that isn't a success for them, because of how expensive they are to make. They outsource to a bunch of studios to make up the difference in technical capabilities which adds to the cost of development I am incredibly curious if they will double down and make another FF mainline title with FF17 or decide the games are simply too expensive to make for too little return and maybe invest that money in the stock market instead. If I were the CEO of Square Enix that would be my play.

75,000 concurrent players on Steam right now as I'm typing this and that doesn't include console.

Japan is irrelevant to a lot of their former customers now that they have become more strict about sexual content.

I doubt it. Classic Mode in FF7R is probably the closest you'll ever see anything non-action mode in the future.

No, but that nigga can't make games. Like an analyst can't analyze the most obvious shit.

DQ12 will utterly obliterate Square doubters.

cancel a bunch of games in development and lose 2bil

Anon Babbletards still misrepresent this as a 16's fault

You can't blame him for that take. You really can't.
FF8 traumatized a lot of people in a lot of ways, and we're still only now finding out the true extent of it. We should have sympathy for the suffering like Yoshida that were left in its wake.

Not to mention FF hasn't been turnbased since over 20 years ago

SE fucking sucks because they have a bunch of senior staff retards that speak out of their ass like yoshi P and don't know shit about anything, old japanese men have egos that are more fragile than that of a teenage girl. They will quadruple down on being retarded and lose more money, because they would rather lose money than to lose face. Such is the way of the japanese corporate drone retard faggot. The older you are at a company the more you will do things wrong on purpose while every young person around you says how awesome you are even though they know it's fucking wrong. People asked them for decades to remake FF games but with better graphics, not new gameplay. They could have done that easily but instead they do these big high budget hollywood-esque action movie games instead, then they flop or don't sell as much and they go EEEEEEEEEEHHHH NANI? WHAT THE FUCK DESU KA?! WHY? like yeah you fucking old jap faggot, what the fuck did you expect you fucking nigger

It's funny how nothing but FF13 for an entire console generation did irreparable damage to Final Fantasy. Idea of it being a JRPG monolith was broken then.

Analyst

Anyone with an IQ above 37 has been saying this for nearly 20 years, SE as a company has always made retarded decisions but in the past two decades they've gone full tilt on trying to change their main titles to appeal to a new crowd for absolutely no reason and no gain. Their lust for platform exclusive deals doesn't help them either.

Turn based games don't sell

Expedition 33 also had niggers and homos

Anon, FFX for the time had amazing hi-fidelity graphics and was command based and was one of the best selling games on PS2 of all time. YoshiP is an idiot, even the shit show that was FF13 sold 7million copies alone and the trilogy of FF13 sold 12million over it's life time and again it had some of the best graphics a game could possibly have at the time along with being Command based/ party based. Now FF13 was a shit game yes, but FF still sold gangbusters and it fundamentally was still turnbased/ command based.
I really do think after FFXV the pivot should have been not into more action combat but realise the experiment of FFXVs more realtime combat did not work and to experiment with Command based again. But they didn't and are not suffering the consequence of that misstep.
Then again giving a mainline single player title to an MMO guy was such a retarded move, I don't think Square Enix will be a relevant game AAA developer within the next 5 years. They'll be downsizing because everything they've pushed out has either been a pure flop or massively undersold.

The other obvious answer here is that better graphics doesn't HAVE to mean more realistic designs, games can in fact have an artstyle.

Yoshi P is a great manager but not a great designer.

Ah yes, game everyone plays for its turn-based nature.

Doesn't matter if they do or not the point that Anon is showing you is that the game is a big seller the gameplay is turnbased.
Put simply turnbased games DO sell and DO make money.

another "Japan INFERIOR to western devs" article

GET YOUR FAUXHAWKS BACK BROS, THE 360 ERA IS BACK! WE CAN PUT THOSE GOOKS BACK IN THEIR PLACE NOW AND STOP PRETEDING WE LIKE THEIR FAGGOT CARTOONS!

Yeah this topic was boring even before e33 dropped and shills have beat the dead horse into paste. Everyone knows ff16 was a blunder and SE is gay and lazier than ever.

Analysts are even less informed than game journalists, because they are buying entirely into the release window hype and disinformation campaigns.
Nobody is going to care about yet another generic UE5 game in a month.
Old Japanese men are too susceptible to pachinko parlor brainrot.

Yeah I fucking hope so. FF games have been dogshite for the longest time.

can someone, ANYONE explain this absurd amount of shilling and anti-japanism to me? it's anything but organic, i don't get it

FFXVI is much better than E33 and sold 4x as many copies.
Why would SE be kicking itself?
You turn based cultists are pathetic

How much do these """analysts""" get paid for simply making bog-standard observations?
I could do it, and do it well.

What a completely retarded take.
No one wants a realistic Final FANTASY ffs

shit on JRPGs for years

bigger than life JRPG series goes to shit trying to chase western appeal

keep claiming that JRPGs are outdated in every sense whenever a new one is released

years go by

no name game leans into everything SE is trying to avoid and makes it big

wow, I bet they're kicking themselves for listening to us

they really have no shame.

also why you consider opinion of ONE (1) guy from japan (naoki yoshida) that turn-based games are unpopular (which is not true) as a word of gospel and use it to attack entire nation? this is some kind of mentally deranged simulation that i'm in right now, sharty niggers should have killed website for good, since it became billion times worse
just kill yourselves, you absolute niggers

Rebirth's combat was dogshit, I can't believe so many people shill it even ITT. Expedition 33 is so much better it's not even funny. Almost every attack in FF7Rebirth knocks you down and interrupts your casts and wastes ATB. It's so fucking retarded. Every move is animation locked so the parry and dodge feel like complete shit to use unless you're standing completely still when the enemy attacks. FF7 Rebirth with E33's combat would have probably been one of the greatest games ever made.

i feel like they have a bunch of kojima wannabes with ZERO actual skill and ambition of their own

A broken clock is correct twice a day.

Maybe if it wasn’t a key card.

God

FF, with the exception of SoP, has been absolute garbage since 12. SE needs to sell the IP and focus on SaGa.

comparing a 35+ year old franchise to a literal who game that came out of nowhere

Are you retarded or what? If E33 had the FF name and marketing behind it would have outsold FF16.

Because Persona 5 was Japanese AND anime and disproves the entire western journo narrative wrong that those worthless stupid ching-chongs needed smart superior western CHADS to teach them how to do their own genres correctly by removing all the gay anime and Japanese shit.

fpbp

No one who has pronouns in bio has anything of value or merit to say.

its good
se will be dead in 2-3 more flops

E33's combat is just parrying successfully and taking no damage, or failing to parry and dying. It's static and not action-y at all.
What did people say about Sekiro? It's not an action game, it's a rhythm game. E33 is a rhythm game about learning enemy attack animations except you can't move around. It's kind of reductive

buy

Rent, the cards have no game on them, it is no different than a digital rental

Grand mystery is most people are allergic to anime shit. Which makes it even more comical that FF16 didn't do so well DESPITE trying to be as western as possible.

It would have been slammed for having ugly girls

Soulslike

Anon the combat is literally Mario bros superstar saga you infantile pleb. I'd bring up Mario RPG but I doubt you've even heard of it if you think dark souls has anything to do with this.

The parry in FF Rebirth works almost exactly the same except it feels like shit to use, what are you even trying to say? At least it feels good to use in E33. The only way you're dying from a missed parry is if you're playing on Expert in which case just turn the difficulty down to normal.

Y-you have to parry!

Nah. Playing on hard and it's easy to build into being a facetank with the right skills, pictos and weapons. You just suck and want to blame the video game for your ineptitude rather than improving yourself even slightly.

Learn what they parable means.

Square won't care because they see Final Fantasy as a movie game and have for 25 years thanks to wanting to prove that Spirits Within bombing was a fluke and look everyone loved Advent Children.

Again, it's the inherent anti-Japan bias that has existed in game journalism and its adjacents (G4 previously, now Youtubers) going back 20 years because normalfags like realistic graphics and don't like anime. So anything that meets with normalfag acceptance is good which means most Japanese games are bad. They had to clamp down on it over the last 10 or so years due to Persona 5's success and the western industry making itself into a joke through misguided, hackneyed attempts at diversity but Clair Obscur has allowed the suppressed sentiments to come bubbling back up.

I don't think it's quite racism but it's the same patronizing attitude that's existed in one form or another towards Japan and Japanese products (and Japan specifically, Korea and China have always been exempt from this shit) for decades.

heh... big mistake messing with my favourite billion dollar Nipponese company... because... *unsheathes dual buster swords* they're about to summon their strongest GF, me!

*yells battle cry before my limit break* IT'S OVER FOR YOU *cuts yopu 1,000 times in 3 seconds* ... that was too easy...

XV is literally one of the highest selling FF games ever released why would they consider it a failure. You don't have to like the game to admit that. Remake also sold 7 million so why do people pretend that Square is somehow killing themselves for not making a turn based main line game when their action entries weren't underperforming until they made them exclusive to a console notorious for poor software performance.

XV is literally one of the highest selling FF games ever released why would they consider it a failure.

because it underwent development hell with god knows how many millions wasted. success is always relative unless we know the budget.

holy consoomerbrain batman

It's simple, it cost far too much in time, in technical capability, in reputation, in money. Highest selling doesn't mean much when it was in development hell for 10 years, barely worked on release, the story was gutted to be placed across DLCs and outside media, books, anime shows, prequels, a movie e.t.c.
It ruined the reputation of the brand for a time. If anyone played FFXV on release then the memory of Chapter 13 will instantly give an acidic reflux reaction.

But multiple analysts, insiders, and even Square Enix themselves have stated it made it's money back in addition to selling well after the fact. I don't like XV so don't get it twisted, I won't defend it's design decisions or anything but it was according to all public records we have financially successful. Remake as well was absolutely a sales success they mentioned it being a factor in the growth of the HD games sector in their FY2021 results way back when. Plus if the argument is Square needing to spend less that's completely irrelevant to whether or not they make a turn based game. I think it's fine to dislike the recent output but I feel like people who want SE to go back use the dumbest arguments. You can just say you want them to go back without pretending like them refusing is the reason their 2 weeks away from the grave or whatever.

decades making tons of jrpgs

an in indie company makes their first game and its already better than SE

Hope japan finally realises that the west fucking hates them and just does their own thing

We get Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler from them.

I mean, 5 games over the space of a decade, which sounds like a lot but no one cared for Bravely Second or Default 2, and not a lot of people knew Octopath 2 even came out. Square effectively threw these devs out to the wolves besides Triangle Strategy.

As a XIV player, anything coming out of Yoshi-P's mouth is complete horseshit. He's a liar to rival Todd.

FF16 fan doesn't know what Super Mario RPG is

The jokes write themselves. Play a real fucking video game for once you retarded nigger cattle. FF16 is garbage.

"its" what is already better than SE?

He god gassed up for years by people telling him he's a God and started to believe his own legend instead of being the humble YoshiP from the first years of FFXIV.

The reality is that if it's overly "ONEESAN MY BUTT IS TREMBLING I NEED YOU TO PAT IT" or "that woman over there has huge boobs" anime, most people will fuck off. But if it's a contemporary anime style that anyone can get into, they have no problems putting down the money. Meanwhile FF16 had virtually nothing Final Fantasy to it beyond theming, the early game was inspired by Game of Thrones to hit western appeal before it inevitably became the redemption arc and the power of friendship, and at the end of the day this departure in tone and style gave it nothing that felt like FF as a franchise overall unless you "want to live the cutscenes".

And on the PS5? Motherfuckers don't want that shit. They want The Last of Us and Spider-Man. They don't even care enough to support Ratchet & Clank, and only held curiosity in Astro Bot for its GOTY status before pissing off yet again. FF16 tried to reach for that crowd and it had NOTHING to offer them but a lightweight Asura's Wrath / DMC knockoff, and it had nothing to offer fans. Then it came to PC with all the fanfare of a wet fart in the wind, most people didn't even know it came out again.

And the funniest goddamn thing is that Final Fantasy was never all that overtly anime besides a handful of titles in the first place, but the heavy bend towards westernization is something people like Yoshida thinks this series needs. Yet it's the anime-esque approach to strong character moments, fighting the impossible, and deconstructing JRPG/MMO tropes stuff that people remember a lot about FF14 more than any of the western appeal attempts.

Square and their producers are up their own asses and have been for decades and they simply don't get it.

I mean the only part that can be said to be true from this is reputation because the game was incredibly divisive at launch in addition to being literally broken to a degree. XV isn't a good game but financially speaking Square has never explicitly referred to it or Remake pt. 1 as financial failures which they did with XVI and Rebirth.

(((((analysts))))))

It's okay, you don't need to lie on Anon Babble for attention.

an original game

What a demented double nigger you are. You can't even name a single other JRPG that has a battle system like the FF7 remake because it's actually original and innovative. Meanwhile I can show you an entire catalogue of JRPGs these french QTE sim devs shamelessly copied.

At least, for once in your life, try to use the brain you let me fuck so hard.

XVI is plenty anime imo. Even in the opening tbdesu. I don't think XVI was made as some fuck being anime, fuck Japan thing or whatever they mention multiple forms of Japanese media being an inspiration for aspects of the game so I don't think it was ever going to be a straight political drama from conception. Yoshida says and does a lot of stupid stuff but I don't don't think he's pushing for westernization or anything not anymore than like Capcom did with Dragon's Dogma for example. Hell he's the director on XIV which has only gotten more outwardly anime with time not less so.

You can't even name a single other JRPG that has a battle system like the FF7 remake

Kingdom Hearts

At least you tried.

It's just Kingdom Hearts combat but with bullet time when you open a menu.

He doesn't help himself with the interviews he gives and press statements.
Just before release he went on some weird rant about how Jrpgs to him is some form of racism and a mark against their games which is absolutely missing the point why people call FF games and rpgs coming out of Japan Jrpgs, it's not a mark against Japan at all but a sign of the love for the uniqueness that Japan brings to the rpg genre. His entire stance against that was moronic at best.

analyst

Quick rundown on how I can become a vidya analyst who gets quoted by journos for having literally any opinion?
Do I need to get a nosejob?

kek you can stop now based retard

Have you just never played Kingdom Hearts or something?

I care. Because I'm an old FF fan who has been begging for this kind of continuation on FFX's formula since FFX and have instead been force fed Square's brand of half baked action slop for two decades.

Last time i checked KH didn't have ATB bars incorporated to its battle system. If anything Ys Seven, a PSP game, is closer to FF7 Remake in gameplay

This angle is getting less and less cute with each post, if you don't understand what a battle system is then look it up instead of wasting my time

I know what a battle system is which is why I know that FF7R's battle system is Kingdom Hearts. Maybe you should try playing video games sometime?

expedition sold way less than literall any numbered final fantasy game..

probably on a MUCH tighter budget
that's all these anal cysts care about

probably

analyst says

Lol

Ok. Post the budget for e33

Mate you're here saying that essentially every realtime action game that has a command system in any form is the same battle system. You're embarrassing us both.

realtime action combat with menuing isn't the same as realtime action combat with menuing because it's just not

turn-based with qtes is identical to turn-based with qtes tho

Try playing video games sometime? Sorry to have embarrassed you but it's okay to admit you were wrong. You post here anonymously so this shame isn't going to carry onto your reddit account.

It's around $25million at the lowest end to $50million at the absolute maximum and that is including marketing budget for both estimates. The reason for the variation is based on wages, studio expenses, set up, location, time investment, marketing pricing inflation is accounted for.

SE isn't the one at fault, blame the diminishing TB crowd for not buying enough TB games. Id say the generation after you and me don't have the patience to wait and for shift through menus in TB games but then im reminded of the hordes of retarded breath of the wilds mouthbreathers thinking its the best game of all time. Maybe the TB games need a major shake up on how it is presented to a younger audience.

Well when you put it like that you look like an even bigger retard.

Look man it's okay to admit you were wrong and you forgot about Kingdom Hearts when you made the claim that FF7R's battle system is completely unique and never before seen.

15/16/7R did more damage. At least FF13 still played somewhat like a JRPG, despite its faults. It's honestly not even that bad of a game, 7/10 at its worst.

probably

says analyst

so, a fucking nobody is trying to compare overrated indie slop with the likes of final fantasy
LOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

FF8 is the second best FF after 9. Fuck 7.

Geez you're really adamant about this. Do you just really wanna talk about Kingdom Hearts? What's your favourite party comp to play as in Kingdom Hearts? Builds? Let's chat.

Okay this guy is somehow even dumber.

Lol lmao. It's still the worst rated FF ever released to this day.

To be fair to SE, there WAS a period of turn-based burnout in the mid-late 2000s when they decided to move away from turn-based. I remember reading game reviews back then and journalists would shit on JRPGs for being ANOTHER turn-based slop.

Yoshi-P said the retarded thing at a time when Pokemon, Persona, and Dragon Quest where still turn based and still dominating the sales ccharts
This changes nothing

It's better than the action slop that square has been shitting out for the past decade.

I'd rather replay FF13 over FF16

Action slop that lets you control more than one character lmao (FF16 not withstanding that shit is BAD but still better than 13)

You were force fed lightnings bitch adventure, her sister and random fuckboy time shenanigans, and lightnings shitty goddess adventure for a whole console gen. You're forgiven for being brain damaged, it's all right.

And to be fair to those journalists, Final Fantasy and certain other little runaway successes like Grandia or Lunar were a sudden super hot rage. Everyone remembers Breath of Fire 3 and 4 for releasing in the time frame where turn-based JRPGs were everywhere, you gotta actually dig deep for fans that genuinely know the first two games. Everyone was releasing JRPG slop, shit like Koudelka got mangled into a tactical JRPG pile of barely playable garbage because the studio refused to not make a JRPG after they were used to making JRPGs, everything wanted to be a JRPG because Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest made it big. So it's not surprising that at the time some people turned against the river of the shit, especially as they got more and more "this is basically just a TV anime premise turned into a mediocre JRPG".
Then the gigantic drought of mainstream JRPGs of the turn-based variety happened as everyone went gimmicky or Tales persisted onwards alongside action games, and turn-based became niche in the process and now people want turns again because EVERYTHING is action.

square is an embarrassment its not fucking rocket science, people OBVIOUSLY want more of what made them famous, but like said jap men would rather square go out of business than admit they took the wrong path by gutting the core elements that made them a household name.

much more fun

How so? It looked pretty standard, hence why I’ve skipped every FF post XV, which I actually kinda liked. Story-wise at least.

Because corporations, by their very nature, cannot admit fault. Why do you think "PR speech" statements exist? Because admitting fault means someone in charge made a mistake and now has to take blame for it. This is even worse in a face-based culture like Japanese.

NTA but expedition 33 takes a lot from souls games. Not just the parry, but the bonfires (expedition flags), posture damage, estus flasks...
