Making a bold prediction here:

Gordon Freeman will become a talking protagonist in Half Life 3/HLX.

After Alyx I don't see how you can go from a talking protagonist interacting with other characters, to silent protagonist again.

I just have a strong feeling he will talk.

After Alyx I don't see how you can go from a talking protagonist interacting with other characters, to silent protagonist again

half life literally did that before by conveying the dialog through the other npcs alone, retard

After Alyx I don't see how you can go from a talking protagonist interacting with other characters

Why are you so new

Sorry? When Gordon is out in the Arctic/Combine Overworld/Xen (according to the leaks) and talks to Eli over comms, it'll be weird if he doesn't respond back at all.

Alyx was the first Half Life game where the protagonist actually talks though.

alyx is not gordon retard what are you even babbling aobut

What the fuck? It doesn't matter who the character is, just Gordon doesn't talk no matter what, which will be weird in certain interactions for him to just not say a damn word, especially if they decide to continue the communication via comms thing Half Life Alyx had, since it did add more life to the experience.

Half Life 3/HLX

Uh, hello? Aren't you forgetting something? Like, where's Episode 3?

Will they ever bring Shephard back?

It doesn't happen now since Eli is alive and Alyx is in the G-Man's hands. Something else happens now.

ok tyler mcnigger

My prediction for Half-Life 3 is that Gordon goes to Aperture to steal a time travel device that's then used to go back to Black Mesa and prevent the start of the first game from ever happening
No need for extensive dialogue from Gordon, that'll be handled by Glados at Aperture and all the scientist and security guards at Black Mesa wondering what you're doing in the wrong sector

unlike OP's boring rambling that kind of scenario does sound kind of cool.

vortigaunts teleport away

"heh. where's everyone going, bingo?"

or

blows up combine with a grenade

"ooh, that HAD to hurt!"

I'm so ready

according to the leaks

Are you talking about the data mine leaks?

Seems like he will be forever stuck in Gearbox's quantum canon. We still don't even have confirmation that Blue Shift is canon (IIRC "Barney" was a nickname for the security guard model).

Mitchell Shepard?

Gordon and Eli go over to the Borealis thinking that's where G-Man kept Alyx

They freed Shepard instead

Unfortunately HLA sort of ruined it because the game made that kind of twist first.

Gee, man! It's that creepy looking guy again...

go back to Black Mesa and prevent the start of the first game from ever happening

Fucking hope not, the last thing I want from HL is cliched time travel trope like that. HLA ending is already stretching things as is. However I can see the plot of Gordon teleporting himself to Aperture though, considering Borealis will be the major plot point with the ship teleporting everywhere. Gordon wreaking havoc in the empty Aperture facility without GLaDOS in between Portal 1 and Portal 2 timeline makes sense.

Undoing the events of previous games is the opposite of cool. Wasn't that the pitch for Alyx too, before they changed their minds?

Yeah the first story pitch of the game was so bad, Valve fired the writer.

In hindsight, HL3 replacing Episode 3 is fitting with the series' original format, considering the game would've been set in a completely different setting (Arctic) compared to HL2 and the Episodes which are focused on the area surrounding City 17.

I just have a strong feeling he will talk.

I doubt it. It's been framed for too long that Gordon is a silent protag by default and the perception stands for decades at this point. Besides, Valve have tried to get Chell speaking in Portal 2 and their playtesters at the time were completely baffled by the idea. Based on that experience, I don't think Valve will do something THAT drastic this time.

Which one?

Mitchell being an frozen statue in HL3 would be a nice reference.

sam hydian

We will get easter eggs for sure. Once you run around some multiverse shit you will meet him or free him

Is there any other person that has caused so much harm by trying to forcefully insert themselves into everything Valve related?
He's still riding on the fact that he predicted a Half Life VR game half a decade later but hasn't done anything of significance ever since
except for making up random speculations that have no backing other than "an insider source" which he probably just made up anyway.

the combines are just humans from the far future and Aperture Science is what led mankind to conquer multiple universes. That's why the Combine are so hellbent on finding it before the resistance do

It is interesting how far he is up in his own ass

I dunno what he's gonna do after HL3 comes out. His entire career pretty much hinges on that game and that game only.

I will be so fucking angry

Hyde Life 3 xd

Valve has been interested in VR for years so them making a Half Life VR game wasn't even a groundbreaking prediction.

Nobody cares about Half Life anymore. It’s old and irrelevant

Considering the basis for the HL story is that the combine are absurdly overpowered compared to humanity the only ending is either preventing the story from happening in the first place or merely delaying their inevitable return

The thing is the story already provided a solution to the Combine question: cut Earth off from the Combine main force. It's the main plot point of Episode 2 and the resistance succeeded. No need for time travel.

If anything you're pointing out how weird it was they decided to start having talking protags in Alyx.

They didn't just break a long held convention for one game. They chose to do it for a fucking VR game. You know, the kind of game where the entire big thing is immersion. You're supposed to allowed to think you're in the game world and not merely controlling someone in the game world. Why did they choose THAT to be the kind of game to suddenly have some women's voice coming out of your head?

Even the idea of "Alyx has talked before so she can't be silent now seems silly". Did they forget Barney didn't talk in Blue Shift?

it'll be weird if he doesn't respond back at all.

that already happened in hl2
alyx even comments on it

He already talks becuase Gordon Freeman is G-Man

that sounds gay enough to be probable

Blue Shit

Gearbox games aren't canon. Cope and seethe Shephardlets.
Hunt Down The Freeman is more canon than those glorified map packs.

Back in the second half of 2010s, talky protags were the fad among the Western AAA sphere. I suspect that Valve wanted to get in on the trend at the time. The recently hired Campo Santo team also had experience with the concept in Firewatch, so they might as well use that framework. To be fair though, Valve have been wanting to make an Alyx spin-off game since 2000s, so maybe they were thinking of making her talk in-game for a long time.
