What is the point of this character?

What is the point of this character?
And why does he have a pet monkey?

Drebin893.jpg - 300x360, 55.27K

because hes a pet nigger monkey himself

The point is to give you weapons + inject Foxdie + give exposition

He's the DC rep

point of character

He's the mobile weapons vendor of the game and gives a logical reason for why Snake can pause and buy stuff in the field.

The point was to show that the programs that created the Boss were recycled by the Patriots and still operate in full force.

Kojimbo predicted DEI

You can honestly play the entire game and never interact with the shop at all.
It's probably better balanced that way too, plenty of ammo and non-tagged weapons out in the field.

pet monkey

Thats his sister you asshole

that bitch you just killed? Some really sad shit, blah blah tragedy, blah blah beast. Anyway 50 dollars a piece man

JIVIN'

MGS4

What year is it

Japan (rightly) decided that the most marketable black character is a 2000s cool depiction of Sherman Augustus
Drebin 893 and Raven from DoA etc.

but yeah that pet monkey from 4 has got to be the ugliest little thing in fiction and while I'm at it the fake burping was worse than the game's fucking ending.

The tranq pistol you get for free will carry you through the whole game if you can supply it with ammo. I'm not sure if you can buy ammo for it on the highest difficulty, though.

But anyway, the game itself encourages you to not spend your points until the end, when everything is 50% off. The 50cal rifle is worth it and you can't find it outside of the shop.

she's laughing, but she's crying inside

she's angry, but she's crying inside

she's crying, but she's crying inside

she's PSYCHO MANTIS, but she's crying inside

lamest MG boss team by a long shot.

Didn't the game read the PS3's internal clock and give you discounts on Sundays as well?

the skulls

The power of being an emotional woman.

The 50cal rifle is worth it and you can't find it outside of the shop

that's literally the only must-have to beat the game, why the fuck are the gekkos so tanky?

The monkey was originally going to be an alien but Kojima cut the character out due to insistence from his staff, you can see the repurposed art made for this in-game.
When doing motion capture, Kojima saw that one of the actors could do really good monkey movements and mannerisms and he laughed and laughed. Then he made the alien a small naked monkey with a space diaper (Kojima also found this hilarious) and reworked every scene with Drebin to have physical comedy from the monkey regardless of seriousness.

Even his name is a reference to his alien origins: Little Gray.

better image, they replaced the alien with the monkey in photoshop after the art was created

That’s so completely retarded that I believe Kojima actually did this.

Do the Skulls even count? They're basically just generic minibosses.

WEDIDITYEEEEEEAH

Would've been funny if one BB didn't have a sad childhood or trauma at all, she just liked war.

Kojimbo created the DEI-based games.

That isn't MGS art. That is a real historical photo.

she's crying, but she actually likes war

The problem is that MGS has always been a series eating its own tail.
Every single game is a riff on MGS1, which itself was already a riff on MG2.
The goofy superpowered boss team just got worse with each iteration, just like the cyborg ninja, just like the torture room sequence, just like the big epic final boss hand to hand duel.
The games can't help themselves but to hit the same beats over and over but slightly worse each time, even Drebin himself feels like a riff on Sigint.
Ironically MGS5 is the only mainline game that actually tried to shake up the formula a bit, but unfortunately it was total dogshit.

but the shop guns are fun

but unfortunately it was an unfinished V0.5 Patreon scam

FTFY and that would still be an exageration because the gameplay was nucredibly smooth and fun (Kojimbo still owes me a playable, customizable metal gear tho)

Sundays and one weekday, I think.

The fucking VSS that you can find will actually penetrate Gekko head armor from the front, letting you kill them without raising an alert.

Remember his soda gimmick?

What a weird character.

I noticed that about older series. Each game had certain things it had to do each time. Final Fantasy being the obvious other example of always needing specific enemies or characters. MGS felt like it always needed a sniper boss fight or a ninja etc. I don't know it was like back then if a game was going to be an X GAMES then it had to have arbitrary list of things the first one had.

I was so fucking pissed when Huey was hyping up Battle Gear like I'd be able to drive it around the gigantic empty open world only for it to be fucking idle minigame-only shit
Worst part is that it was apparently meant to be used in-game but was cut for balance reasons.

You could one-shot them with the railgun you got from Crying Wolf as well, but it's obviously not silent.

Is that so? I'll try that out then, It's so boring when your options are limited to Railgun and the 50 cal when you're up against Gekkos

the overpowering unique state-of-the-art weapon was cut for balance

...this is like cutting a Daedric artifact from TES because they are powerful, that's the whole point.

My stealth runs of MGS4 are fun right up until Act 4. Even if you throw a chaff grenade you have a good chance of setting off an alert.

Exactly, it's retarded, especially when the game already lets you airdrop a fucking tank.

It at least was a boss fight, TPP you only had fireman and the metal gear, and the entire boss fight is you doing pea damage to the bosses until you escape with chopper, or the cut-scene finishes it off
I don't get how they managed make worse bosses (or lack there of) than the previous PSP title

You know you can tranq their legs, right?

it's intentional kojiumbo genius
battle gear is our true PHANTOM PAIN

PW did a good job shaking up the formula before MGS5 obviously, and was a significantly better game. Even that was building off of PO.

Every single game is a riff on MGS1, which itself was already a riff on MG2.

This is somewhat true. A series having a formula isn't necessarily a bad thing though. It gives the early MG games a cohesive identity. And some ideas, like a cool boss lineup, are good enough to justify reusing. The games without a boss lineup (MGS5) are worse than any of the games that do.

The games also evolved mechanically each time. MG2 was a huge step up from MG1. MGS1 took the series into 3D. MGS2 evolved the mechanics with stuff like first person aiming. MGS4 evolved things further. etc.

was cut for "balance"

leaves the unnecessary over-hyping cutscene

you either cut everything or balance it, in-between is just diluting the game with water

He sells you guns.

yeah, takes to long though

That was partly the point, with Snake even pointing it out and saying "boohoo I don't give a shit anymore"

Oh, sorry, my bad. I thought this was a stealth game. The kind where being patient is a virtue.

Dude, this is just wasting time, I just want other weapons to be viable, I want to be able to shotgun these guys to death without focusing on its weak points

The kind where being patient is a virtue

Not this game, your score lowers if you take too long.

5 hours is not that bad, I could finish the game in 2 30 provided I skip all cutscenes

We see in one of the first cutscenes that the gekko are difficult to kill with small arms. If you can focus fire on their legs, you'll topple them and be able to shoot their brains. Doing this with guns is the loud and fast way. Tranqs are the slow and quiet way.

Until you get the VSS and can just headshot them from the shadows.

Unless I'm getting an item for the score, I don't mind what it is. Corpse camo was a bitch to get.

they aren't really around in early games anyway, just want to spice things up on act 4 where the whole level is just an MGR reskin and there are no soldiers around to be trolled

FUCK WHY DIDNT I EVER THINK OF THAT

You can get the VSS long before then. You can find it in Act 2. There's an are that has a small, unguarded storehouse. The area after the power station, stick to the left and go all the way down the left path until you reach a house. It will be somewhere in there On one side of the storehouse is the VSS. It is recognizable by it's huge amounts of guinea pigs.

I know, I got everything already, Snake Eater tape included.

How are you even playing the game in this year?

RPCS3? What else? Crashes like 20 or so loading screens though so I have to save constantly, good thing this game has no penalty on saving

this game has no penalty on saving

I thought it did. No... that was the amount of times you continued after dying. You could still quit out and preserve a no death run.

NTA but I still keep my PS3 around as a machine to play Demon's Souls and MGS4 when needed.
