The original version is better.
The original version is better
last time I touched oblivion was the 360 version.
I miss all the glitches from the original, utterly breaking the game was half the fun.
though it has been interesting having to actually play the remaster properly
Requires a little modding on PC but you're right.
Vanilla Oblivion is fucking ass
the remaster has the same glitches while having more glitches that ruin the game or make it a pain in the ass
Acquire taste pleb
many such cases
Not with that leveling system
what is your problem with the levelling system
So is the remaster.
Morrowind for life.
The console versions always feel like a survival game because the game has so many ways to permanently fuck you. Don't EVER get vampirism, don't EVER get stuck in a save loop or get stuck in terrain etc. Grinding the skills was also kind of fun since there was no other option, on PC as soon as you have to grind even a little it's very hard to justify not just cheating the levels using console commands. All the glitches are also fun since they're genuinely dangerous, there's no fixing things if something goes wrong. Sometimes you won't even realize something has glitched and you save over and permanently fuck yourself (happened to me on a 200h save). It wasn't as much a sandbox game as it is on PC, shit was for real.
My first and only playthrough of Oblivion felt like a fever dream and I don't remember the details at all. I know I did just about everything there was to do but I missed the Knights of the Nine content and now I don't have those save files anymore. What mods can make the game less of a headache as I replay the whole thing?
original oblivion
easy access to models, textures, and modding in general is easy
remaster
UE5 pak bullshit
The game levels with you, so you might come back to the first stage of the game and find random bandits roaming around in full daedric armor with ultra enchanted swords.
that's interesting because bandits don't wear heavy armor. and the game levels with you because it's a free open game and they implemented that system so that there is an end game
It's horrible and means you're heavily incentivized to either not level or to autistically manage your skill level ups to maximize attribute gain which bizzarely means you get best results by selecting useless skills you won't use as your primary skills.
nah, it fixed many of the item dupe glitches and other inventory based glitches which were fun to mess around with
The main problem is that no matter how strong you get, the game levels with you. There's no sense of accomplishment. In a normal RPG, you could go back to a starting zone and easily wipe out those monsters that were giving you such a hard time when you were level 2.
you will always be "incentivized to not level up" because the game is easy and shit at level 1.
attributes make up a small portion of your character's power and can be easily ignored and have all those points wasted and you will be fine because what really matters in this game is your skills, equipment, and spells
the sense of accomplishment comes from making a strong character with all the cool abilities the game has to offer and killing rooms full of the strongest enemies
Well no the incentive to level up is for the leveled items, specially the Daedric artifacts. That's it. Otherwise the game effectively punishs you for leveling your primary skills and leveling up.
no it doesn't, you get to the end game and enemies are tougher just like any normal game.
No they're not. If you only get to level 2 your final fights will still be against stunted scamps and NPC bosses who's level is matched to yours. Mankar Camoran is just your level + 10.
It looks like muddy shit
the end game of oblivion is when you get high level not when you do the main quest
And yet the game is still more fun to roleplay in than most RPGs
hope you're able to get a PC that can run it one day
Right, so you're retarded and didn't read my post.
kino
you play oblivion in the shittiest most boring way imaginable and blame the leveling system because you are a retard.
Yeah no shit its the case for every remaster
I mean it was since the game launched one of the most common mods balancing leveling and attributes so it wasn't as gamey.
Again retard, not the complaint or what my post said.
honestly, nothing is wrong with the levelling system in gameplay.
all of peoples complaints are "it doesn't make sense, why is this bandit/whatever in god armour" "I can't kill things easily anymore" or shit like that where they ain't talking about actual gameplay.
and it has been years since I played the game, and I actually am having no problems with the level up system because I actually knew to level up all my main combat skills first. leaving now all I got is the non-combat skills which is actually a grind since there is no incentive to use them often meaning you gotta walk around spamming spells and shit if you want to for example, level up illusion or mysticism.
and I used to be part of the "this level system is utter shit" crowd...when I was like 9 years old, but after spending the last week playing the game, I realised that I was just utter shit at the game and completely fucked up leveling up due to not understanding how it worked
You don't get to see how strong the enemies you kill at a high level are because once you level up all the low level enemies vanish and you never get to compare how difficult it was to fight them back then and how easy it is now. It just feels like you're still fighting the same enemies but they look different now, like they could remove the combat stat changes from level ups and only make your level change the way enemies look and you wouldn't notice.
I put 1000+ hours into Oblivion, the Remaster is superior purely for the changes to the Attribute system, the bow gameplay changes, the dagger changes, and the new Alchemy filter system.
that is nonsense because enemies get way more powerful and you unlock all kinds of new abilities as you level up so it feels way different. you're not running around 2 shotting skeletons with a sword at level 30 like you do at level 1
unlock all kinds of new abilities as you level up
No you don't, those are only tied to skill increases not kevel ups.
most people think the leveling system sucks because they use melee which sucks in the late game and they falsely believe that attributes matter and if they don't get max attribute points their character will be too weak
okay
the trouble is, its been like 20 years since the original, but Anon Babble's average age hasn't changed.
so now you got like 14 year old kids on Anon Babble who pretend they were around when the original was new, talking as if they know what their going on about when actually they are just actually have no clue
it's even easier to dupe items now, i've done it on accident
Not to mention you can sprint.
Alternate start
what is your problem with the levelling system
Leveling up is almost entirely detrimental, one of the most powerful strategies in Oblivion is to stay at or near level 1, either by picking major skills you don't use or by simply not sleeping. There are other issues but that's a pretty big one.
you're not running around 2 shotting skeletons with a sword at level 30 like you do at level 1
Yeah you're 30 shotting them because of the unbelievably fucked up HP scaling
it's more fun to level up and pick major skills you use and do end game things
Highly doubt it. Most games made before 2015 have aged like milk.
And no matter how you played it you were punished for not leveling block, heavy armour and athletics for the Endurance bonus early on.
minmaxing oblivion levelling is for fags and autists.
No it's not, you effectively are punished for playing that way.
you are a retard who likes killing rats and skeletons because killing hard things is "punishment"
it's more fun to level up and pick major skills you use and do end game things
It isn't because end game characters play 99% the same as early game characters, but the enemies take 10x as long to die
Yeah it was retarded to not make those health gains retroactive
it doesn’t recognize my 3060 ti and sets my resolution to 480p
You're the retard who claime abilities were tied to level. Only thing it governs is quest availability.
All versions of Oblivion are shit because it's terribly designed, empty and janky. But it does have more soulful colors if anything, every character looks ugly af though.
Oblivion my beloved
Oblivion is easy as fuck and broken in a dozen ways, but yes I would consider it a punishment to switch out the 30 hp goblins for 900 hp goblin warlords who are exactly the same besides having higher numbers.
it spawns a lot of different enemies when you level up and they have more interesting strategies to fight than basic zombies and skeletons
There is not one enemy or combination of enemies that requires or enables interesting strategies in Oblivion. They're just different coats of paint on the same tiny selection of enemy types.
You're just baiting, no one is actually this retarded.
they have resistances, some of them have summons and spells, reflect damage or absorb magic, or just a shit load of health
And none of those things take interesting strategies to beat. The only one that even really changes your approach is reflect magic and only if your character uses magic
it's comfy
What mods do I need? The last time I played it was since 2006.
All I remember is that it has level scaling enemies and that's suck.
Quest markers and free fast travel everywhere is soulless. Also only two melee specializations is stupid. Also requiring every single word to be voiced leads to less nuanced writing. Not even a Morrowboomer, I just got into the series recently.
Can you still avoid going to Kvatch and play the game without doing the main quest and having gates spawn everywhere?
You are a tranny for life that's true

if you actually don't know: eurogamer.net
The remaster is objectively better by having an actually functional leveling system.
blah blah blah
Why?
Oblivion was always good, yes.
the original was miles better in 2006 than the remaster in 2025. With that being said, not that I bought the remaster, I think it's better than a lot of stuff released right now
I ain't rolling, but I'm curious what I'd get
Like wise rolling for memes
none, the level scaling is only an issue if you're a complete retard
Thanks for calling him out, dude is a fucking retard and everyone knows the leveling/scaling was massively fucked especially if you were stuck on consoles
Difficulty slider is really hurting the remake. Cant figure out why they dumbed it down.
I didn't know what the fuck level scaling was way back when I first played it so in my head I figured the bandits were either getting more organized or were hopping in and out of oblivion gates for better gear
I enjoy the old graphics and atmosphere but the broken leveling system makes it unplayable without mods.
Also, water is wet
the original sucked but at least the graphics had some charm
You have to understand that even though they were watered down, this was a lot of kid's introduction to rpg mechanics besides FF and pokemon. They didn't read the manual, they raced through to level 20 and got stuck. They think of this game and remember their chapped ass.
SOVL
alignment
oblivion
That's how I saw it too. The world was going to hell and evil was emboldened. The once you stop mehrunes it removes the hardest enemies and by that point you're strong enough that bandits in glass aren't a big deal. Loot is where your money comes from anyway unless you like spamming potions forever
probably be years before I roll a new char but lets see
murder bad
helping good
i played it on console at 10 years old and i was good at it. i also know far more about the game than some common retards talking about the level scaling
Both are shit
this. after the horrible performance on the remaster i just went back and reinstalled the original.
Zoomtards think levelling up is bad because they need to get new gear to deal with harder threats rather than being able to yolo through everything like you're playing soulsbournekino with a meme build.
bosmer please
there is also the fact that without abusing exploits, enchanting gear is generally worse than stuff you can find, especially when it comes to unique items.
where its best used as a stopgap solution until you find an actual thing you want
Oblivion modding is fucking awful, the mod library is far more limited and the game is somehow less stable than both morrowind and skyrim
i was a melee person so that was my problem i guess.
nta btw.
been a while since i played oblivion.
what's a good way to level/play it?
there are lots of things you can do but the best skills are pretty much heavy armor, armorer, destruction, restoration, alteration. enchanting your armor even with weak soul gems helps a lot. and breton is the most powerful race. i don't wanna just tell you what to do though
the game has over 200 dungeons all hand crafted
Todd.. tell me sweet little lies
i see.
ty.
I wonder if the stuff in Oblivion's E3 demo will make it into Elder Scrolls 6
Ok then go play that.
why do you think they weren't hand crafted?
