Would you say you hold some genuine video game opinions others would deem to be contrarian?
Would you say you hold some genuine video game opinions others would deem to be contrarian?
The OST's of Persona OST's are genuinely horrible and overly quirky. I truly believe half of the problem of the soundtracks of Persona games (namely 3-5) could be solved by just removing all of the vocals and just shipping the games with their soundtracks but it's just all the instrumental versions of the battle themes etc. The other half is, shit like jazz and pop heavily clashes with JRPG battling. I don't want to hear that shit.
no, i only like good games. i make sure to only say things that other people agree with. i have no thoughts or opinions of my own other than the last thing i heard online
The first Mass Effect is the best, including gameplay. Remaster sucks and is for homosexuals.
I dropped RE after an hour, no clue how anyone could enjoy that slog. I guess people just really like walking slowly through corridors.
Half-Life 2 is a 7/10 at best. Pacing and story are flawed to such a degree that even the top-tier atmosphere can't salvage it.
Doom 2016 and Eternal are both equally mediocre. The focus on repetitive arenas and lack of varied environments just makes them dull as fuck.
Doom 2 features some of the worst level design in a commercially released FPS game and is only well remembered thanks to its modding community.
there are no bad Dragon Age games.
Old souls games were harder because the controls and mechanics were changed. Removing animation locks and abilities to learn how the engine works/plays to cancel animations removed a lot of the actual skill level. While the newer games aren't bad they're significantly easier than the older ones because you can walk and kite and heal until you run out of resources instead of using times you could be attacking to heal. And that's why they have to resort to giving a lot of bosses one shots in newer souls games to make the game have difficulty and something to watch out for again.
I like the musou/warriors games. Played a few over the years and they were enjoyable. I feel like the visceral hatred (like with some reactions to recent Hyrule Warriors reveal) towards the genre is overplayed.
Half-Life 2 is a 7/10 at best.
Based, it's a tech demo for the Source engine and that's it.
Terraria personally gets boring after the first playthrough because everything is more or less the same per-world and you're still going through the motions of grinding items you use for 10 minutes to then replace soon after
Console warring is ultimately meaningless antagonism and there's nothing inherently wrong with picking whatever console you like based on what games interest you
The PS2 really wasn't the best console for game quality considering the raw amount of shovelware it has published for it rivals the Wii
Capcom should really just not bother with Street Fighter anymore and instead make new games for more interesting and fun series like Lost Planet and Onimusha
People only care about Blaster Master solely because of the sexy plant, no one would give two shits about it otherwise.
I hate map drawing and think it's retarded that games like Etrian Odyssey don't have an optional auto-map for the people that just want to explore dungeons and gather resources instead of having to painstakingly tap on a screen every tile only to redraw that shit from scratch later because the formatting wasn't optimal or you failed to notice something potentially compromising your entire map. I'm also annoyed with how Elminage handled maps, any game released after the mid-90's should have auto-mapping as an optional feature, I shouldn't have to draw shit on a notepad irl either.
ohhhhhhh my god thats a good kot, did you make it?
people who hate first person platforming are people who are just terrible at first person platforming and are just coping about the fact that they're terrible at it by saying that the entire concept is stupid, when in reality it is they who are stupid.
also house of the dead is a better franchise than resident evil, and is a cooler setting overall with cooler monsters
your art fucking sucks hobo cock
even the sloppiest AI has more soul than this shit
My favorite XCOM game is Chimera Squad.
a game offering a cohesive organic sense of adventure is more novel to me than any disconnected segment of the base gameplay I'm likely to encouter I.E. killing some goombas with a standardized combat system I've seen a dozen times before.
I unironically believe games do not need to be "art"
I enjoyed Red Alert 3 more than Red Alert 2.
Metal Gear Solid sucks. The entire series, everything about it. It has terrible gameplay and the story is poorly crafted, verging on unintelligible at times.
And yes that includes Revengeance.
yes but its not my fault everyone else is a shiteater.
4 is a good game but it's not a good resident evil game.
If anyone ever doesn't like anything it's sour grapes
Low IQ
I think MMOs are actively still very social games and I, and many other people who complain about it, are just socially jaded and fucked up and refuse to actually communicate with people and as such blame it on change and the games in our failures to find friends and people to talk with.
Sonic 1 is the best Sonic. None of them are good after 3.
Chrono Cross > Trigger
B/W2 is the best Pokemon game
Chrono Cross > Trigger
What did you like most about Chrono Cross? My favourite part was the part where it's gay and sucks and you should kill yourself
Thanks friend, I appreciate it!
Politics in videos games even progressive stuff is fine if it's well done
When you think about it, furries were trannies before trannies were trannies, it's the same basic fetish.
The intro of CC, grounding in the mundane life of a cozy fishing village, feels deliberate and purposeful. In a lot of JRPGs it's just a generic starting point to measure how far you go.
But then CC hits you with the hook of pulling you away to a world where your character died as a child.
I think it's one of the strongest introductory mystery-hooks of any game in the genre.
I'm gonna kill myself and make you watch.
Witcher 3 is a genuinely dogshit game. No, not just the gameplay, the story is incredibly gay and lame too.
I think people who do are just looking for validation. It's how you end up with people like Druckman.
Yup that's pretty contrarian
Being a contrarian doesn't mean your opinions aren't genuine.
There's also nothing wrong with being contrarian.
Nah, MMO players complain about every activity they can't just go and do on their own until they change it so that you can. That's why you have theme park MMOs you just que into shit with people who refuse to communicate because the whole reason people play MMOs is to do long RPG grinds. They have social aspects but as soon as you make it so people have to interact beyond dropping pre-written strats they have meltdowns.
See? Under a minute and the fanboys are already crawling out of the woodwork. Read a book man, the story is nothing special at all. Also the dialogue is fucking atrocious and poorly acted.
There is no situation where dual analog is the optimal control scheme. It is always among the worst ways to control a character and is often only considered because people know nothing else or because the game botches every other control scheme.
Pic related is unironically correct.
I do read books.
Story isn't the best thing ever but it's pretty good.
Better than most tv shows i would say.
That's an incredibly low bar and you know it lmao.
Multiplayer FPS games have been complete dogshit for a LONG time now. Overwatch was the last good FPS release, and it started going to shit after like season 2. Not to mention the utter dogshit that is battle royale. It was incredible when Minecraft did it, and sure it was cool when PUBG did it, but then EVERY fucking studio tried to cash in on it. Like holy fuck, it's time to move on.
I don't think there's any other genre that's more divided in terms of singleplayer vs multiplayer quality. Single player FPS games have really been pushing the genre forward.
Not sure how contrarian that all is though.
newer EO releases have auto map I'm sure.
its a lesser experience but its there.
Diablo and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race
I hate randomized loot so goddamn much
Puzzle games are overall the objective best genre.
The decline of puzzles in your average action/adventure game correlates with the decline in quality and care (Finding three hidden items in an area is not a puzzle)
If you have common sense gaming's been great for several years. Easier to access, cheaper to buy, and easier to make informed purchases.
Console strategy games are better than PC ones since they have to be creative with their mechanics and level design to make up for control limitations.
The Paz subplot in The Phantom Pain is the best one in the entire franchise.
The only objective indefensible fault that RE4R had was Ashley's skirt shorts.
The Castlevania games are carried by aesthetic/music and most of them aren't that good.
Binary Domain was better than Vanquish.
Legends era Tomb Raider has better consistent quality compared to Core Design.
Mankind Divided was the perfect length if you did the side quests.
Planetarian is the only good Key VN as it has actual good pacing.
The Yakuza games are glorified visual novels with okay minigames.
Unless they're primarily focused on sex over story, most eroge are better without the sex scenes.
Online games were only good because they were an extension of school playtime and you were fucking around with the lads. The games themselves were and still are mediocre job simulators.
Past the initial transition, 3D games are objectively superior to 2D.
Only 1% of games are legitimately bad, a lot of popular bad choices are just below average or have problems outside of the game itself.
Monster girls need to be monstrous otherwise they're not monster girls.
Witcher 3 is a genuinely dogshit game
My nigga. I've been saying this since it came out but no one listens. It's barely even a game.
BotW and TotK are painfully mediocre empty open world games full of "you can fo this" gimmicks that get old after 5 hours.
MGS V as well.
Nier Automata is trash action game and babby's first 2deep4u game
FF XII is the only truly great FF title.
Despite some stuff like SBMM, Fortnite tier skins or disbanding lobbies, Call of Duty is still the best arcade boots on the ground military shooter.
Skyrim is shit.
Arkham City was a letdown after Asylum and open world ruined the series.
Clair Obscur is turn based rpg mid and only so popular because gamers want to stick it to Ubisoft and EA (kinda based tho)
Balatro is just Subway Surfers for "gamers"
Skyrim is shit.
That's not contrarian in the slightest.
Artifact was a genuinely good game that was held back by the most terrible monetization issues coupled with game play that made no sense unless you learned how to play. Which mercy killed the game when they tried to hype it up by giving it to streamers to let hype slowly die before people even got to play it. Richard Garfield being involved was also just a huge mistake obviously carried by the people he worked with and is just a name who took credit for the success of older MTG while printing shit that's still broken today like time walk.
It's bizarre isn't it? Every time I hear discussion about it I feel like I'm in a parallel universe. It's not even an immersive fantasy setting, it's all over the place in that regard. One of the main characters literally has the accent of 19 year old teen from Cali and no one ever mentions how jarring it is.
portal 2 is 100x better than 1.
all true
Dark Souls has completely ruined video games. From the idiotic stamina bar that only exists because Fromsoft isn't capable of balancing to the story which is nonsensical unless you purposefully seek it out, there is not a single thing good these games have done. And if they had never gotten the reputation of "hardest game ever" then nobody would have touched them. It's not even true, fighting games and rhythm games are far harder, but normies latches onto it.
Essentially, Dark Souls is the result of the normification of video gaming. It's a simplified monster hunter where the enemy's attacks are stupidly huge relative to their own size, meaning that every fight is more akin to RNG than actual fighting. That's part of why it grew with normal ags - because of how badly coded the fights are, you're basically in a casino when you go in. "But there's people who play it well" yeah and there's people who win at poker a lot too. It's still fucking stupid gameplay.
And it gets worse because every single fucking company would go on to make their own dark souls. Some are better than others (sekiro being on of the good ones) but in the end most of it was forgettable garbage. Anyone remember how excited everyone was for Lies of P? How excited are they now for it?
Dark Souls ruined video games.
Putting leveling systems, item systems or equipment/builds in any way shape or form completely ruins any games meant to be difficult. It's such a shit design choice and only exists to draw out game length and leads the player to question whether they are adequately leveled throughout the game.
I agree with you. The music is the worst part of the series.
I assumed there would be an automap feature in Elminage Gothic and got lost in the first dungeon. Also, the guy in the training hall will fucking kill you.
misunderstanding the point as a purely 'sour grapes' argument
subhuman iq, incapable of comprehending why exactly this applies perfectly to the genre of first person platformers
You are correct in this and the people that think games should be art only make shitty games.
How about you articulate it, then, dummy, instead of just making a sour grapes argument? Bet you can't.
Disco Elysium is a fun game and doesn’t endorse communism or any particular ideology.
I play MMOs new and old and the difference in game design absolutely makes for a difference in socialization.
Yes. I like Starbound more than Terraria. I tried to get into Terraria, but I couldn't. Meanwhile, I have 500+ hours in (modded) Starbound.
So what stealth games do you prefer ?
All of the Arkham games are terrible and if it wasn't Batman themed then they would have bombed hard. Their horrendous combat system had an awful influence on the industry for like a decade.
I think Rockstar is incredibly mid. That's probably my most controversial take.
So, no.
what do you think is superior for console shooters
Crafting is boring bullshit and you’re retarded if you like that shit.
I dont know, because I assume almost everyone has already accepted that Half Life games are fucking dogshit
But yeah, Half Life is trash
Also, this is an acutal one, Hollow Knight is a very mediocre game propped up simply by the DLC never releasing
For the last 12 years I'd agree.
You are a retarded faggot
FFXII
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST ALL FUCKING MIGHTY WHAT THE FUCK
Ahahaha cry more. You'll never get to suck off Geralt.
You will never get rid of your extra chromosomes
My most controversial opinion is that it's ok to have fun and that (your) favourite game is great.
Play an old MMO
Get a group together
Can't find class I want
Ask everyone if it's okay to bring a 2nd healer
No response
Bring 2nd healer
Ask who can stun because an ability needs stunned or we die
No response
Ask guy who I know has a stun if he can stun
Has a random meltdown immediately after seeing his name in chat about being called out and why we have 2 healers and leaves
Yeah dude, I love boomers just staring at their fucking screen watching people try to talk to them it's so fun. Also don't use the chat to ask questions because you'll get about 10 responses to just use google.
games are art by default, simple as
Roger Ebert is a massive faggot and I'd gladly ignore his boomer rambling only if it didn't cause western devs to get collectively butthurt and try to prove videogames are indeed art by making the most boring 2deep4you walking simulators imaginable
I'm gonna beat your ass for saying shit like that to me unironically unprompted
Next you'll be saying that we should stop seeing everything in games as a political statement or something like some kinda queerosexual.
Yeah, if I recall correctly EG had some baffling system where you could buy 1-use consumable maps and if you wanted a permanent map for the dungeon you needed to find one hidden deep within the place or from a quest. Also there was some horrible dungeon relatively early on where you had to drop down holes, and there were environmental hazards and blocked off areas that required you to go up and down keeping track of what was going on, that made navigating without a map an absolute nightmare. Oh, and unrelated but you could recruit monsters with some convoluted system that favoured one of the least useful character builds and your chances of pulling it off was fucking abysmal, and then to top it off unless it was certain unique monsters (with even more ridiculously low chances of success) it wasn't even remotely worth your time anyway.
Lmao imagine getting this mad over the Witcher 3. Shit's hilarious.
Being a contrarian isn't about disagreeing with commonly held beliefs, it's disagreeing with commonly held beliefs in an annoying way.
Portal's story is corny as fuck.
Yup, future suicide victim right here
The word you're looking for is campy, and it's intentional
Contrarian
noun
a person who opposes or rejects popular opinion, especially in stock exchange dealing.
"it has become fashionable to be a stock-market contrarian"
adjective
opposing or rejecting popular opinion; going against current practice.
Sorry couldn't help myself
Most people who play games are not able to articulate what they actually want. Listening to player feedback and using it to make/update your game is the worst possible thing you can do to a game outside of just dropping patches that remove features.
People will typically flock to play the same slop they complain about because they're too stupid to figure out why they even like it. Typically these people are very passionate about whatever game but are just too stupid to articulate why they enjoy themselves.
Typically people want to set goals for themselves and complete them but will complain about any obstacle to that goal. Removing the obstacle or nerfing it though will just allow them to get whatever they want faster and cause them to dislike the game.
This is why games as a service typically just set you on perpetual treadmills to reuse the same content(ex rank resets, world resets etc...)

what's wrong with you retards?
Negativity works wonders for engagement, doubly so if it's open ended so you can air personal grievances.
Would
But those things cost peanuts and it's not like you are always running around with map open.
Worst is Persona Q where you not only have to draw map but walk every single square of it if you want good treasure.
Person who thought that you have to walk every fucking square in a map drawing game should be shot.
Yes it is now kill yourself zoomer shitstain
this.
i think people can learn a lot just by making a 2d game in java script, you realize how much is smokes and mirror and how many things are done behind the scene to make it fun
What's the best of the genre in your opinion? I have played a couple musou years ago and would like to come back to the genre.
I don't give a fuck, retard. Post some more furry bitches, these wall of texts full of gay opinions are gay as fuck.
NOBODY CARES.
I care and I read every post in the thread including yours.
Hope this helps!
it is simple. first person platformers are a test of your own spatial reasoning and awareness capability and how you can translate it into a videogame. it fundamentally is just that. the only difference between it and 2d platformers are the number of dimensions and the perspective (duh), so it is, by nature, a lot more complicated to play. but there is nothing inherent within the third dimension that makes any game making use of it 'wrong' or 'incorrect'. the fact that we have first person shooters and first person dungeon crawlers can attest to that.
so, a platformer game is a platformer game, regardless of the number of dimensions. therefore, the only reasonable conclusion one can make is that anyone who actually bitch about the existence of first person platformers specifically, amongst all other types of platformer games are those who are just terrible at it. nobody complains about 2d platformers only having a limited view of the entire course, where you can see only chunks at a time. that is simply the nature of the dimension you are working it. the same argument can be made for first person platformers. hopefully, this would seem very obvious and very comprehensible to you.
and, just as a clarification, I am not talking about people who just don't like platformers of any kind to begin with. i am specifically talking about people who play platformers who hold that false belief that the only platformers that can exist are two-dimensional. again, platformers fundamentally are just a test of your spatial ability. any complaints about first person platformers can therefore be construed as a complaint against the first person 3d aspect of it. therefore, it can be further construed that they find navigating in three dimensions difficult, so we can make the final conclusion that anyone who is unreasonably mad about that fact just have really weak 3d spatial ability.
has this been autistically explained in enough detail for you?
God I love fishe creatures..........
cringe aspies
first based post after hours
i'll do you niggas better
modded daggerfall > modded morrowind
no, i have played neither but i hope the idea that someone out there in the world unironically believes in this would hurt you
Everyone knows the best Elder Scrolls game is the first one you played for more than an hour. All the other ones are either boomer cringe or zoomer cringe
Hoooly shit pretentious midwit pseud retard alert
The biggest thing to acknowledge is things people actively find unfun. People do immediately understand and recognize when they find something not fun. There is also a pretty big difference between making someone do something they might find boring vs doing something they might find unfun.
Drawing emotions is typically a large reason why people will continue to play games and boredom and anger still means they're invested while someone telling you something is unfun so they stopped interacting with it is a major issue to be looked at.
Bubsy 3D is not that bad. It handles better than Croc. It doesn't have soul draining gameplay like Gex. It has better water stages than Spyro and Crash, for what that's worth.
