I think that they toned down the level scaling a bit or reworked it. You still see bandits in Elven and Dwemer gear even at level 30+. So even though glass and Daedric sets begin to appear it doesn't replace what came before.

The way to combat getting underleveld is don't spread your skills/attributes too thin, focus one-three attributes at a time. Strength and Endurance are essential if you plan on doing any melee combat. Don't major in shit that levels up Speed or Personality.

I'm not sure of the specifics of how the enemy spawns work, I just know some enemies just become extinct.

it's ok. some questlines aren't great and the entire main plot is dependent on the removal of the Mark and Recall spells from the entire setting, and the level scaling is fucked to all hell but it's really not horrible. especially with how the remake handles leveling you don't have to play like an autistic person to not get scaled to hell, though some knowhow with enchants, custom spells and poisons goes a long way in the higher levels.

I think Oblivion's quest lines have been pretty great so far. I just did the Dark Brotherhood and that shit blew my mind. Fucking loved it. I did the Mages Guild and the Thieves Guild and although they weren't as good as the DB storyline I thought they were pretty high quality overall. There are some minor quests I did which I liked as well. I don't want to spoil any of them but they seem to do a pretty good job of having twists and turns you wouldn't really expect. Coming off of Skyrim, I think the questing is markedly better in Oblivion.

enter a cave in oblivion: you kill the same goblins/bandits/skeletons, find no unique rewards, no narrative or unique quirks of the dungeon, no twist, its the same as the last 5 caves you went through, and you have to backtrack all the way through it to the beginning most of the time.

In skyrim, nearly every dungeon has a special story it tells, the enemy variety is MUCH wider, there's usually unique loot or benefits at the end, and its designed to be not annoying to leave. Oh and they look better, even than the remaster.

Skyrim's dungeons have mostly the same problems as Oblivion's dungeons except there is a neat little "boss" type encounter at the end and you get a nifty little back entrance exit out of there so you don't have to do much backtracking. And honestly?........ it works, yeah. In Oblivion you explore a dungeon and it can be a little underwhelming when you realize you've been to all the rooms and just have to get back out again. It seriously goes a long way to just have an elite type enemy to fight at the end and then leave shortly after through some secret tunnel that leads you instantly out. Very climactic. You leave in higher spirits.

But I disagree with the enemy variety and the loot. That did not get fixed in Skyrim. You still mostly find junk loot. The most interesting thing you find is usually some new Dragon Shout, but it's like a 1/10 chance it's anything actually useful or fun.

Shivering Isles has the same problem as Old World Blues in New Vegas. They both came out before Rick and Morty and Rick and Morty killed that type of humour. Loot from Oblivion's dungeons is nearly useless. At least Skyrim always tries to put a decent amount of treasure and one/two leveled piece of gear at the end that may be useful to you. In Oblivion every chest has a generic restore health potion and some gold. The best loot you're going to get is grabbing the glass armor off the bandit you killed on the outside of the dungeon.

There are some nice pieces that you can only find and can't craft/enchant for yourself, but in general Oblivion and Skyrim have similar loot. They are mostly generic. You might find something nice that you'll actually use but most of it is generic garbage meant for the vendors.

I never touched mysticism back when I played Oblivion originally, and never really used illusion much in Oblivion nor Skyrim. So I'm running a sneaky guy that uses both. It's pretty fun so far. Despite being thief-oriented still, I'm rolling with no armor. I have to rely on stealth and in combat, I have to rely in command, frenzy, and eventually paralyze.
In the past, I've always made the mistake of having a pure bow/dagger thief in light armor. I think you should just always incorporate magic into your character in Elder Scrolls, the magicka bar is just sitting there after all.
