I don't know about other versions, but in the movie Shin was already on deaths door from getting the absolute shit beaten out of him by Raoh and was just barely holding it together long enough to "die by Ken's hand."
Ken smacked Shin once in the face and Shin fell back and like four massive injuries appeared on his body. We didn't see his fight with Raoh but he clearly did not win it.

I didn't enjoy that at all desu, the combat didn't feel 'hokuto' enough.
Shin crying like a bitch over how Julia will never love him after he got his final "battle" with Kenshiro, already mortally wounded by Raoh, was kino. As was Raoh winning the final fight and walking away to reflect after getting reminded of Ryuken's words by Lin. It hit different for me than the usual way things go with Ken just winning those fights.
I ended up thinking the movie's ending felt half baked, especially with Raoh knowing Lin's name and all that stuff so it could have a happier ending. Overall, if they'd gotten enough time to include Toki into the story (if I recall, they had to rush the film somewhat) I think it'd be more acceptable for thing to be the one interrupting things.
