A lot of series died during your coma, though. Too many to count. Oh yeah, and all those developers lost their jobs as well.
ARPGs, RTS and fighting games are all in the worst spot they've ever been in, but the indie scene has done a lot to revive other genres.

Yes and no one played it back then, it was extremely niched for the time, it was a cult classic. It was released at the end of that year in October. Souls didn't really explode until Dark Souls in 2011, even then it was still niched. Bloodborne popularized it again, still very niched. Sekiro was the one game that made people go back and play the "souls" series from the start. Ever since then eveyone is making their souls-like game, more than before.
