What caused it?
The downfall of Final Fantasy
X-2
Single player rpgs have very little replay value, anyone who wanted to play rebirth or FF16 already played it on ps5 when it first came out. A lot of people will only play console games if there is no PC version.
XVI sold 3 million on 1 platform. Metaflop sold 1 million on 5 platforms
we haven't had a likeable cast since 10
1. Way too much time spent between main entries.
2. Games like 13 and 15 shitting the bed.
3. Having nothing unique about them or an identity. The series got big on the SFC and PS1 because they were making lavish stories with rich audio and music but others do it better now.
4. Not appealing to action games, not appealing to ladies, not appealing to rpg fans, not appealing to fantasy.
5. Sony exclusivity PS4-PS5 onwards, when PC is what they needed badly from day 1. Kills hype.
6. FF7 Remake being 15 years to come out in all 3 parts with tons of padding and being an alt-universe take kills the hype.
7. Gameplay - not deep enough to appeal to action fans, not casual enough for rpg fans.
8. Unreal dogshit inefficient engine.
9. Copy AAA Western games, seemingly unaware they're on the decline and few give a shit about them.
They couldn't adapt to AAA model, and couldn't figure out where to cut corners os their games were big monster projects that took years upon years to come out and they felt they had to make it up to "modern standards" for "modern audiences" so they mindlessly copy everything in Western AAA games, making them feel even more bland and uninspired.
Just lack of inspiration, budgets too big, bloated, lack of direction. Company is headed by a bunch of Keiji Infaune clones who want mega IPs and nothing else.

The downfall of Final Fantasy.. and Atlus and Capcom...
Barry is still crying about FF games?
Most Steam users don't have PS5s and if these were big hit games then people would have bought them. Having a stretched out release over multiple formats utterly kills hype, and releases don't get noticed. No one is hyped for the Steam release of a game that came out 1.5 years ago on the PS5 unless you're a mega-fan of the series.
Barry has been winning for years thoughbeit
Most steam users don't have PS5s
Citation needed. This is absolute tales from your ass.
Stagnation while constantly increasing the budgets
no hot bitches, think about it
every single game since 13 was terrible, and turning 7, the golden goose, into open world slop, in an era where every game is open world slop was the the end. a jrpg made by 30 frogs completely bodying ff7, while showing what could have been, and what thousands of jeeters couldn't do was the ultimate death knell.
steam
lol
Lmao
13 and its 2 sequels tanked the value of the brand and it hasn't recovered
FF7 should have been much more condensed, and maybe split among 2 games. They should have made it 1:1 with events and locations, rather than expand the bloat, and kept the 3D world map to reduce the Open World AAA bloat that kills the budget. Part 1: all the way up to Aerith's death in the Forbidden Capital. Part 2: Icicle Inn to End-game.
The original FF7 has amazing pacign and always makes you feel like you're making progress, and giving you tons of events and story beats. FF7 remake is horrendously paced, with bloat and bullshit. I hate it. I want to fast forward through all this padding.
Fabula nova crystallis, the PS3 generation being such a disaster.
Oh and if entirely up to me, I'd have the PS4 era be the remake era, with fully 3D real time combat games for their major titles. Guess what the PS5 era would be? HD ports of all of these.
FF6: World of Balance
FF6: World of Ruin
Chrono Trigger Remake
Vagrant Story remake
FF7: Shinra
FF7: Meteorfall
Parasite Eve Remake
It was my fault. I’m sorry.
I hate it. I want to fast forward through all this padding.
the padding is a staple of open world games. what's hilarious is people are now playing oblivion for the first time and getting a taste of what a proper bethesda open world used to be: no padding. everything that's not the main quest is completely optional. the scaling let's players experience the main quest low level, or coming back to it a much higher level, to experience bigger, stronger monsters. this is the best bethesda has ever done, and that was 20 years ago. on the xbox 360.
making all their games boring and sanitized didn't help
SPEEEEEEN
All they need is a new Yoko Taro game and they'll turn things around
XIII
13
then the weird XV buildup of demos and awful E3 showings. Remember that Xbox show where he fought Titan or someshit?
Then splitting 7R into 3 parts, which alone is dumb but also the ghost shit. Episodic games always sell less than the one before, even Walking Dead S2 didn't sell better than the first and that was THE game series to really start that shit.
/thread
This happened because they think they're too cool for turn based games now.
Notice that FFX was the last good Final Fantasy game.
Also notice that Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler, and Triangle Strategy are good games.
e33 shills getting desperate trying to claim they are better than persona and FF now lol
make a thread and mention a single memorable moment or thing to happen in the entire game, because nothing has been shown at all, ever, to make e33 memorable or worthwhile of anyone's time
That is statistically improbable, since in that case every single PS5 player would have to be a PC player too.
Not releasing the game on pc on launch
Square Enix westernization caused this. Also going for all the stupid trends possible like NFTs.
Disingenuous thread, FFXVI released on Steam long after it released on PS5. Same with Rebirth although the wait was shorter. The biggest culprit is SE's shitty way of handling game releases.
I'm still amazed there are people defending breaking 7 into 3 parts, when they bash the hobbit trilogy for doing the same shit
I still can't believe they sold 40 minutes of a game as a 70€ remake
Still frothing at the mouth, I see
I can only think that FF7 disc 1 is an assload of towns and npcs and bosses. You travel from the Midgar slums all the way to the Ancient City up in the north. That's a LOT of set pieces and shit. I think it's fair to divide it into two games. First game you travel on foot, second game you get the high wind after Act 1.
I still can't believe they sold 40 minutes of a game as a 70€ remake
The Midgar act of FF7 is like 4-8 hours, and it's a bit of a tutorial.
Exactly. You're getting it.
ohhh nooo I'm one point lower this totally ruins my company being twice as valuable and having more fans
only 33 reviews
Damn nobody played this game lmao
FFXIII.
Just look at the Japanese trend of sales between FFXII, FFXIII, FFXV, and FFXVI.
Final Fantasy XII - 1,764,266
Final Fantasy XIII - 1.501.964
Final Fantasy XV - 690.471
Final Fantasy XVI - 336.027
Consumers were still looking forward to final fantasy games after FFXII. It was after XIII that the franchise started trending downwards.
Squaresoft going bankrupt from spirits within and then Enix buying them out
Nothing but shit ever since
They're bankrupt and yet still have more money and sales than those other two companies?
Not releasing it side by side with console versions for one. Also most people are probably just waiting for all 3 of the ff7 remake bullshit to be released to actually have a proper full game.
spirits within
what the fuck were they thinking
