How did they do it?

replay zelda ocarina of time

it's literally still the GOAT

not even in a 'for its time' way but ingeneral, the pacing is meticulous, somehow mechanics are more refined than in sequel games, it's polished but doesn't feel overpolished, the atmosphere is still unique, the formula of exploring overworld and then dungeon crawling never never allows either to get boring

0013_6.jpg - 2592x1944, 1.44M

They enjoyed making games back then.

10/10 level design, Souls combat before Souls. Play Master Quest

It's fun when you figure out that you can parry attacks
More enemies is awesome in mq but dungeon changes are weird

what r other retro games on the same level?

I came to appreciate the game even more once I started playing randomizers. The game seems lock and key linear until you're forced to get creative. Something like it should be standardized in the series, if it ever stops being open world slop.

The combat's kinda easy, and less dramatic than the game portrays it as, and I wish there was more everything like enemies and weapons and attacks. But it's well paced, and knows how to get you going and making you feel like you're accomplishing something. Take Twilight Princess, which has even more braindead combat, but also takes forever to get going and bogs you down in stupid tutorials disguided as missions that Ocarina of Time didn't bother you wish. You got a quick message from Navi and that was about it.

It's insanely boring

God I love PS1/N64 aesthetics. Most 5th gen games looked ass mind you but the ones that don't are peak vidya aesthetic.

if you are a zoomer with adhd

Will the movie be good bros?

I will eat crow if both Link and Zelda will be white (not Jewish) and Ganondorf swarthy

Nice trooncase, oldtroon. Zelda lacks energy and it's a terribly boring game with safe design.

safe design.

this reveals you are a retard who worships indie games throwing spaghetti at the whole to see if it sticks. sorry you were born too late and grew up with hot garbage

Indies rarely even try anything new, they are the most derivative bunch of copy-paste ideas in retro wrappers

this reveals

trooncase

oldfag posturing

over a game everyone has played

Ootfags not beating the allegations.

how do you type so many words without resembling an argument

Meant for:

It's not much for today's standards but it's very carefully and effectively crafted

To this day I don't know if Epona is a sidequest or a main quest

Quite on that level nothing imo but in the same stratosphere: MGS1, GTA VC and SA, Resident Evil 4, A Link to the Past, Half Life 2, Shenmue, Tales of Symphonia, Morrowind, Metroid Prime, Halo, Gabriel Knight 1 or 2, DQ 3 or 5, Symphona of the Night + a few more is basically retro Mount Rushmore

Is MM really better or is it just hipster talk? Can you play MM without playing OoT first?

MM is oot but with interesting ideas instead of rehashing alttp.

Is MM really better or is it just hipster talk?

The latter. OoT is like Lord of the Rings and MM is all the weirdest Xena episodes slapped together meaning it's still great, just not as refined or epic

Can you play MM without playing OoT first?

Literally no reason to do that but I guess on one side it would make the game look less rehashy but on the other side that it rehashes OoT contnet is kinda part of the story

how do you play this game for the first time on modern systems? I wanna see why you boomers like this shit

I wanna see why you boomers like this shit

Stay away from it

ootfags are a very specific breed that grew up with a console that is famous for having zero games. With how everpresent games are today on anything from your phone to your computer to any number of consoles in between, oot won't work on you. It literally has to be the only game you have for an entire year.

Can you play MM without playing OoT first?

why would you?

How did they do it? They actually imposed restrictions on the player. TotK is nothing but a retard's sandbox where every experiment results in success.

retroarch mupen core with crt shaders

I wanna see why you boomers like this shit

fun fluid gameplay with z targeting, lots of items and mechanics, best looking fantasy medieval world of its console generation, iconic characters and perfect music

ootfags

That's like saying waterfags or peoplewhothinktheskyisbluefags. It's the fucking highest rated game ever and every hobby gamer played and liked it back then.

modern systems

well, first you need to grow up and get a real computer

Do you prefer 'ootsnoys?' Gotta keep up with the zoomer lingo when in a thread about zoomer games.

actually this, at first i was like

oh cool there are multiple ways to go about these puzzles

then 2 """""""""dungeons""""""""""" in i was annoyed by how you can break almost every puzzle with some trial and error in totk

I call everything that triggers me zoomer because it's an insult on Anon Babble even if the things came out in the 90s

Oh you are this retard.

Meant for:

If you want to get games like OoT I always suggest first playing a few other games of that era to really understand and appreciate the quality. I like Tenchu but compare picrel with tank controls and that black void 2 feet in front of you everywhere with this

bro you're... old.. lol.

30 min later

still in a thread about game he doesn't like

Why are Zelda haters always losers

Yes

0300.jpg - 1201x1920, 193.31K

I can't imagine needing constant affirmation about your game like this. It's sad.

It's the best and purest waifu sim

malon.png - 1052x1329, 1.61M

It bothers me so much that the ocarina isn't on the left C button as God intended.

Twilight Princess was better
Majora’s Mask was better
A Link to the Past was better
But yeah it’s better than every other game except those.

What link model is this?

boring

You get hit with constant dopamine from those eureka moments and the better you are at the game the faster they come. You must've fried your receptors with porn or drugs

web oot.gif - 320x240, 1.99M

finally someone with sense

unironically how were kids to supposed to find out. no game did something like this before

I would say in that regard Soul Reaver was a game that got close, and... its really not close. Ocarina of Time felt peerless for its time. And STILL gets things more right than games churned out today, often times. It has the fundamentals absolutely on lock. Where OoT starts to wane in modern comparisons is in complexity, variety, and volume. But I don't really fault it for lacking in those areas so much because it really was the first to the fundamentals so right.

When you stand on the web when walking in the dungeon, it stretches.
You can try jumping off from lower points and it stretches more.
Only natural to jump into it from the highest point

no game did something like this before

it’s just a push and pull mechanic.

This is why Navi was so necessary. Its inane and down right disrespectful to a player's intelligence now, but there was NO short hand for this stuff in '98.

>no game did something like this before

it’s just a push and pull mechanic.

In fairness. Push and pull mechanics are intuitive on a horizontal plane. Its actually a tooth pulling exercise even today to get players to engage with verticality.

navi tells you to do it

It's incredibly boring and the puzzle solutions are obvious. It's not Tomb Raider, it's not meant to be challenging.

You feel like an actual kid playing on a playground but the playground is a whole world and there is zombies.

43.png - 648x486, 443.29K

"bruh" I've been emulating since I was 12, your generation is just inept

When I was a kid, the only things that disappointed me with this game were

boomerang isn’t used that much

completed triforce isn’t in the ending

you couldn’t upgrade the master sword

but everything else was great and better than ALTTP. You get the biggoron sword which makes the last point less severe but I still liked the master sword and upgrading it was cool.

am i the only one the ice cavern reminds of that crystal dungeon in the conan movie? i love it for that

FPBP

the formula of exploring overworld and then dungeon crawling never never allows either to get boring

BotW and TotK still do this but it's just many mini dungeons instead of few huge dungeons. The only problem with the shrines is the loading times and that they look and sound too samey.

*distant cawing*

By playing the game and using intuition

damn you are right, maybe i'm not autistic

mini dungeons

Trash, the entire point is figuring out how to navigate the order of rooms on your own. Breaking them apart ruined the game. And then the "dungeons" are actually even worse, somehow.

this. I just want to kill enemies mindlessly, open up a shortcut from the closest bonfire to the boss, then fight the difficult prepare 2 le die hp sponge boss (but win in one try because I am overleveled)

We get it, you're insecure about fromsoft.

EH REH

Yeah I never really understood the glazing of that Undead Burg elevator in DaS. Every half decent game has shortcuts somewhere

23.jpg - 640x480, 30.65K

It's not hard to understand.

I never actually finished it as a kid, at one point me and my brother were just running around looking for "magic water" that turns Link into an adult but we still loved just exploring and fishing

Obsessed

You will NEVER breed. Or Sneed.

the randomizer showed me that i didnt know the game like i thought i did

The LTTP/OOT/MM super-randomizer taught me how important it is to keep track of your warp locations.

For like a month, I'd just run around the map with Epona and my Master Sword fucking around. Started both the Fire and Water Temple but didn't do much in them. I wasn't stuck or anything, I just wanted to be Link.

naw dude my dad plays the zombie parts for me B)

no game did something like this before

you mean no games do this nowadays because big game corporations have optimized everything for the 80 IQ modern audience, right down to the yellow paint

It's such an old crap game now
