I hope they're all the same weight and the only thing that affects stats is the kart. I want to play as goomba but I have no doubt that he would be one of the lightest characters and would be dogshit as a result.

Depends on the hidden stats and if mini turbo is still superior to speed (which it looks to be given drifting got nerfed)

Man roster really feels like they're scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Though I've felt that way since double dash. I guess so long as we don't get more babies and golden/metal versions of characters I guess. Do they hate their mario themed RPGs that much?

I don't know if you noticed this or not, but every character they added was a character that they already had 3D models for. Anything else they'd need to do a bunch of extra work when all they're trying to do is get the ball rolling. It's fine if you don't like this roster, but they're obviously going to be adding new characters and tracks after the game is out.

Bro I just want some character thats not literally every generic enemy that's ever popped up in a mario game. I was totally fine with King boo since it was giving some representation to Luigi's mansion. Like some enemies are fine like the Shy guy and koopa troopa because he's an OG. But who the fuck wants a goomba or the dolphin from mario world? It doesn't have to be goomba with a wig or koopa with a bandana but they really do have a number of characters from the RPGs to pull from. M&L, Mario RPG, Paper Mario. Also jesus christ I knew some faggot was gonna assume I want geno in there

What actually makes a character good in mario kart? What makes a character bad? I never bothered with meta knowledge in these games. I know Wario and Morton were supposedly the best characters in 8, but i'd never be able to tell someone why.

There's two types of people when it comes to characters. The first one just wants to play as a character they like. The second one looks at the characters stats when paired with a certain kart and minmaxes to get the best possible stat combination.

In mario kart 8D the meta was Waluigi on the Wiggler bike, so you'd have an entire lobby of 12 people playing with that exact combination. People who just care about the characters themselves don't typically play online a lot, because even in casual lobbies you'll find sweaty tryhards who disconnect if they reach the last lap lower than 4th place.

If you took out these characters that didn’t need the extra work because they already had a model (those without a costume) (and we’ll toss in dry bones, wiggler, and nabbit since the 2 former were racers previously and the latter is properly new) that leaves us with a base roster of 27. In a game with 24-player races that’s an inexcusably low amount and flat-out lazy. Even base 8 had more racers than that on-launch

The switch didn't even have a dedicated mii channel. You had to make your miis for each specific game that had them.

It did, but it was tucked away in the system settings.

Not so much they’re getting rid of mii’s, but them being the main avatars of the system and being used everywhere. You can still have mii-specific games but it’s not like they’re being shoved into every game like in the wii/wiiu days

Idk if they're going to add so many outright obscure enemies no one knows the names of, then what's even the point of the gatekeeping? There are more people who can name Fawful than ostrich, bee, bat, crab, possibly even the duck from Sunshine, and not-Boo.

Some funny meme characters are fine by me, but the impact is lessened when there are so many.
