13 Sentinels

This has to be hands down one of the most batshit insane plots of VN/RTS hybrid I've ever played since Fate Stay Night & Umineko

13 Sentinels.jpg - 300x300, 37.84K

You're a few years late, but yes, it's fantastic.

I wish the RTS aspect of it was better. This game is the first and only time I remember being annoyed by gameplay interrupting dialogue.

That's partly because I only just ran through the original PS2 version of Odin Sphere then Dragon Crown saw this was the most "sci-fi" after the studios other works

It was pretty cool.

This was probably the most fun I had going through a story, I feel like people who just mindlessly go through each section without trying to piece the timeline and story together themselves are missing the appeal. Sure everything is explained at the end and you're given a proper timeline of events but it's much more satisfying if you reach the final battle knowing what's going on.

mfw level when THAT music starts playing

I remember thinking I was piecing together what was going on until Miura's storyline threw me a massive curve ball.

kino game
i really wish i could forget all about it and play it again for the first time. easily the best game i've played since 2020

It probably would have benefited from being able to see the attack animations that they preview during the upgrade screen instead it being such a high top-down view using 8-bit stylizations of the enemies and your units when they show up on the map.

PS2 version of Odin Sphere

Why. Like actual fucking question, why would you ever commit to something that they even admit was not designed to be an enjoyable experience and also didn't work because of the lack of elements and functionality.

It was a bargain bin for only 23$ from estarland m8

Also the lag spikes from the Knights final fight against death where great

a thread where half the Anon Babble doesn't shit on the game

now I've seen everything

what's bat shit about it? I read the plot on wikipedia and it sounds boring

I liked the ending. Even if it all felt a little too rushed.

That would've been nice, but my main issue was enemies being simple to kill before they became a threat. Only the final mission involved more than going through motions. Love the game, but the actual gameplay portions felt tacked on beyond their foreshadowing purposes

You can tell it's the same people usually, expect the steins gate falseflagger, the guy who complains about it being a ripoff of Megazone 23 but doesn't respond when you actually compare the two, and the guy who talks about the localization to appear soon. The threads during the switch release were pretty good since all the autists had moved onto more relevant pastures.

hahahaha
lol
lmaoooo

ichiban.jpg - 1000x603, 54.78K

idk, going through it on hard the first time totally blind was a fun time. not super hard, but fun nonetheless. i do like the game's gameplay. i can't believe there are actual people that have done the extra 9999 combat stages

all pilots.png - 1920x1080, 2.46M

With a heavy heart I use...
...Missile Rain...

I loved this game. The combat sections were meh but I mean, I get it, it's a VN first. The part where you're being sung to by Miyuki as you battle was 12/10

youtube.com/watch?v=vKdIhT3Feks
This lives rent free in my head and I don't even mind. That stage was something special.
I liked how sickeningly sweet the epilogue was. I think it was one of the few cases where I was totally satisfied with an ending.

that mission was pure fucking anime power level

f2ss.jpg - 673x696, 59.6K

i used to blast this shit when i got drunk
such a good song man

1. it's a niche game, not too many people know about it to be controversial
2. People have shat on the story because of the Matrix twist.
3. Shitposters have shat on the translation of that one crossdresser's dialogue and the mild yaoi elements of the game, but they're gone off to culture war something else.

I'm more surprised you didn't quit during Oswald's story, his controls and combat options are just fucking terrible and most people end up dropping the game once they get to his book.

I liked it when the girls were naked in the mechs

I think the only real difficulty is meeting some of the requirements both blind and some of the wordings of those requirements felt poorly worded/translated.

his controls and combat options are just fucking terrible

It's been a long time since I played it but I remember Oswald having rape level dps if you combo with the right potions.

This is literally just a really bad romcom

Only issue was how uneven the stories were. Also, at least one person was blatantly supposed to be a playable character but got cut.

tamao.png - 250x250, 69.91K

That's really just Iori's route, and it was more shoujo, which is why Iori's route wasn't all that great.

Just wanna say that Ryoko is best girl and her retardation unironically saved everybody's lives. If she didn't fuck up and infect the sentinels Miyuki would've never been accidentally transported to the control satellite which is the only reason they're able to escape

rushed

Maybe you can remind me why is everyone naked when getting into the giant death robots again?

Good luck finding that out blind. Or fucking yourself with how the ending worked originally worked.

nat-chan is the only nonwhore

How does she do it bros?

Because those are not actually "giant death robot cockpit view"

The usage of this song as an integral gameplay and plot part of the final level was where the video game have peaked. Absolute cinema. Nothing comes even close.

The way to get the good ending was pretty obvious in terms of who has to fight who. The hard part was figuring out how to get all the bad endings for completionists.

She was actually a cut pilot?

I was incredibly surprised when Ryoko won popularity poll in Japan. I thought she was the less likeable cast members.

Her design screams Rei-expy which is always popular over there, but I liked how she's easily the most proactive and irrational (although not entirely her fault) character in the cast. Usually you expect the sickly girl with the soft voice to be a passive moeblob with no agency but she was out there threatening to kill over half the cast at one point or another

Because it's hot and kamitani is a coomer

sex with Morimura
sex with Iori
sex with loli-Chihiro
sex with grandma Chihiro

yeah, idk if it was budget reasons or what but i think it's pretty clear she and okino were cut
if they hadn't been, i'm sure we would have had 5 sentinel gens with 3 pilots for each

She's literally an "angrier" rei m8,they absolutely love that character over the pond

Nips have notoriously shit taste

I think Ryoko is my second favorite girl after Nat-chan. What happened to her original self is real as fuck. I'd also feel betrayed and want to end humanity. Plus, she's just beautiful.

ryokos.jpg - 2480x3508, 1.58M

Steins;Gate was a better sci-fi story by far.

F/SN

Umineko

Disgusting in every facet.

They're not similar at all besides having time travel as part of the premise. What even is this comparison

person who has only ever experienced one thing compares the next thing he encounters to his only frame of reference

It's like that

S;G doesn't even have any gameplay. This one does have it. I like both, though.

I found the gameplay pretty fun even played the infinite mode a little after I finished the main game. The combat ost is fantastic and despite everything being very abstract it still feels quite real. The satelite song boss fight was absolute cinema.

I'm comparing the story. Steins;Gate had a likable and memorable cast but I can barely remember most of the characters in this game.
Not like the gameplay itself is anything to write home about either.

the glasses dude won HARD
he'll eventually get to taste ALL version of Chihiro from loli to GILF

latest.jpg - 283x436, 39.44K

Steins;Gate had a likable and memorable cast

lizard-hehe.gif - 498x330, 72.13K

idk, the ending kinda implied he gets shipped with ryoko
but yeah, big twist that the dude's main motivating factor was pussy. i mean i get goddamn, Morimura is both Venus and Mercury in a single woman.

Tutturuu! When you're on a chicken bender grab a box of chicken tender bwuk-bwu-bwuuuuk

I dropped this game a year ago after 2 hours for some reason, and was just reminded it existed because of this thread. The story is kind of goofy, but is it worth playing anyways?

glasses

Which one there were two weren't there?

Don't even get me started on the three different Juro nonsense what the ******?!!!!!

mfw they're considering ways to bring people out of the simulation into the real world at the end

MIWA MUST LIVE

boss face.jpg - 385x372, 30.23K

It's not that I didn't remember the characters but I pretty much hate all of them. You can sum up most stories as one character onesidedly gaslights the other into a relationship. Most of them weren't organic at all.

The story is the very reason why you'd play this game. Why it's so lauded. If you can't enjoy it then I truly feel sorry for you.

It depends on your tolerance for le plot twists

Kind of screwed up that she wakes up not really knowing what happened, but both of her friends are now married and have kids in some cases.

miura was clearly best boy

The story is basically a mishmash of classic sci-fi from the past 50 years. It's pretty cool and deliberately over the top silly and obtuse like the stories its paying homage to.

UMU~

Chihiro_29.jpg - 1200x1921, 303.36K

Whould you?

morimura2188.png - 397x590, 363.27K

Does anyone else feel like a retard for not immediately picking up on the Shiba twist. It's the most obvious one but it somehow never crossed my mind until the reveal

yea

It's a small miracle that it actually made sense.
Probably because no time travel lmao.

Idol singing during that one battle was absolute cinema. Battles were pretty fun in general. I liked the brain overheat mechanic that forced you to use every character.

I love the twist really. Introducing that concept in your game is a surefire way to fuck up your internal logic. 90% who do it are hacks who dont have the writing chops to close the story in a satisfying manner that makes sense (Ghost Trick)

Idol singing during that one battle was absolute cinema

Macrossbros, is this /ourgame/?

Ghost Trick plays it super safe with hyper-tight rules to the point where it's barely a time travel story at all.
Which is probably it works and why it wasn't written by a hack.

yep, haven't gotten around to it but i learned through a vtuber that played it that that was a straight up macross reference
and the song is amazing too it's here

it's even more impressive because they did it with 13 individual stories

She probably wasn't going to be a playable character but her story ends really abruptly without really going anywhere. Other stuff that was cut was Ryoko and Ei's backstory, and AI-Hijiyama being relevant instead of only having an implied existence (he's never mentioned by name). I think Hijiyama's story itself was cut since it's literally 80% him picking up change and having gay thoughts without being super relevant to anybody else's story besides Nenji.

I can manage, OP mentioned Umineko which is something I really liked.
Some annoying retard enjoyed it, and he got on my nerves, so I dropped it. Haven’t seen him in over a year though, so I’m willing to try again.

Yeah that mission was fucking great

duuude what if we steal plot points from 13 popular things, but make it all a dream?

best game plot ever, 10/10

One of the best games ever for sure.
And one of those that make me glad I learned Japanese (and moved to Japan etc. of course).

Will they grow a chubby body for her irl?

it's not time travel, it's simulation

humanity actually died, people are digitized

but there is magic tech that can theoretically revive humans

So Zegapain?
Xenoblade X?
Fucking Matrix?
This shit aint no original. Combat sucked major ass too.

Name all 13 popular things

Missing some points. Try a replay, drkie.

I really want to play it but I've been done with cringe-based combat systems since FFX.

Ohohoho if it was just old tired turn-based combat, it would be an improvement.
It's japanese take on frozen synapse, where it's real time with tactical pause.
It sucks ass.

Dont care for VNs but this was fantastic. I think the actual gameplay part with the mech battles wasnt as bad as everyone said, I quite enjoyed it.

going out of bounds with shu

any media with this feeling?

Also dark city to a lesser extent.

outer wilds feels like this.
and then you do it

frontlinejp.net/2022/04/14/the-movies-novels-manga-and-anime-that-inspired-13-sentinels/

I also played the ps2 version. Whats wrong with it? Aside from the obvious occasional lag spikes...
I bought the lefh---something something at a later point which clearly ran way more smoothly but never finished it due to having 100% the ps2 version

I played it initially and honestly it was fine. While remake is gorgeous and plays very smooth it's also really easy. I think they butchered the food mechnic or something and made healing too easy, don't remember exactly. Still good but I miss the challenge.

I dropped this game after playing for quite a while, I was somewhere in the middle(?). I want to go back to it but I might have to start over. I don't remember why but I had a hard time caring about the mystery of the story. Kind of reminds me of how I felt about Akane in VLR

I loved the VN segments, great story and art but the tactical combat sucked dick so fucking hard couldnt bother to play this shit

If you liked this game and plot play Hundred Line OP, crazy plot but also amazing tactical gameplay for once

You fuckers at least have choice. Muramasa DLC is still stuck on Vita.

Hundred Line OP

Isn't translation actual fanfic-tier this time? And yeah, i know Dang it Ron Paul always had it rough.

It's on par with Danganronpa translations so depending how tolerant are you.
But 13 Sentinels translation was butchered too, so no matter what as no JP speaking we are fucked these days

I am never going to finish this game.
I started when it came out in like 2020.

popular boy x delinquent girl

are there any other games with this type of couple?

kiss and lick tummy

mfw Nenji sees the rival gang members in the epilogue

your bro tells you he now has a 100% real vagina in the digital world

What do?

Felt like the result of being too predictable. There were 13 plot twists.

I genuinely don't get the strength of the distaste some people have for the combat.

I avoided spoilers so didn't discuss the game until after I was done, and I never had any issue with it. I thought it was simple but effective. It could be samey but none of the missions felt long enough for that to be an issue, and I think it really came into its own later when you get to use lots of auto-turrets at once or you get Missile Rain and the you really get that feeling of just carpet nuking an entire neighbourhood.

I don't think it was mind blowing as an RTS, not even close, but it served its purpose and felt cool too. It genuinely surprised me when I started checking discussion of it afterwards and people seemed to just viscerally hate the gameplay segments.

It was kino

I found it a lot of fun myself. Felt very cinematic? And it was neat facing huge swarms of enemies like so.

The 1st Gen Sentinels removing their limiters and just bulldozing everything while moving at ludicrious speeds never got old.

The epilogue aftergame missions weren't as cool though. The characters chiming in throughout the battles really added to it.

mfw you realize all the story missions were lead ups to the Destruction mode

brayko.jpg - 342x294, 16.12K

This game sucked and I'm tired of being gaslit into thinking otherwise.
It's like I'm living in a simulation seeing all this blind praise and empty hype.

It's ugly, too easy, boring and repetitive.
It's made cheap and it shows. It's big part of the game but it's clearly underbaked.

Stay where you are, wrongthink police is on the way.

hate vns and i didnt have fun with this on ps4 but now i want it on switch because sexo

i played it a long time ago when it was getting hyped by sakurai and yoko taro and i rememeber feeling like a stupid goyim playing through the story as it felt like they were dangling keys in front of me constantly with all the twists. I actually did like the rts gameplay though, skipped all the dialog during it.

Goyim is plural.

This but unironically. Fuck the shills.

whoops…

no need to be too spergy, this thread will die in like an hour and youll forget about this game for another year or so.

I just finished this yesterday. Absolutely fantastic game, I was considering dropping it early on because the story was slow and wasn't clicking but I'm so glad I stuck with it. Natsuno best girl!
