Wtf are they smoking at Bamco?
Ok but seriously, how did they manage to destroy the series?
first of all, the roster is too big and there are too many knowldge checks in the series
Tekken is way too anime. Even anime fighting games like Guilty Gear, BlazBlue and Undernightwhatever looks at Tekken and goes, "damn we'll never be as anime as this shit".
Harada listened to retards who said that top 8s in T7 were boring because it was two dudes KBDing and fishing for openings, so he decided to remove all defense from the game and make it all offense all the time.
Tekken was never good.
The game is designed to be a spectacle for tournaments instead of being just a good game that was organically chosen to be played on tournaments because it's fun.
you have retards at bamco that are way too much into statistics and then you have retards like murray who design and balance way too much based on (((feeling))) clashing together creating an incoherent piece of shit of a game
the casualization after TTT2 happened because bamco is convinced the game flopped because of the game being too difficult/complex, rather than the game having absolutely nonexistant marketing. casual players not knowing the game ever dropped.
BIGGER
FLASHIER
MORE EXPLOSIONS
MORE LIGHTS AND PARTICLE EFFECTS
MORE NIKE ADS
PUT WINGS ON THE NIGGA! BLACK WINGS SO PEOPLE ARE LIKE WHOA THIS NIGGA IS A DEMON ANGEL OR SOME SHIT!
two common reasons that are linked.
1. investors want to see growth.
2. you chase for a new audience, alienating your already established one.
that's the TLDR.
They tried to make Tekken more accessible and more fun for less effort.
Defense takes time to develop, Aggression however is much easier to build up.
Therefore they focused in on making Aggression easy and "fun". Hoping that this will lead to new players sticking around because the funny Heat button sometimes wins them the game.
As expected, most people don't care for fighting games beyond mashing for a an hour or two.
And Tekken players barely recognize their beloved game anymore.
It's a lose lose.
Hey, Anon Babble
Fahkurmom
They kept buffing and streamlining everyone's offense until the game became looping heat and/or stance 50/50s, while also removing/simplifying defensive options (no more backroll catches, no more chickening, no more reversals on aerial moves, no reversals on heat smashes and weapon attacks of which there are much more). They also remove skill expression by making harder techniques easier or removing them (KBD isn't as necessary, electrics free in heat or stance for Jin, wr moves are free even point blank, Law's DSS cancels etc.)
oh shut the fuck up
Being angry won't make you any taller, Harada.
purple nigga go back to lab
They dumbed the game down to cater to a new audience without realizing that if they dumb it down too much it becomes a game of 50/50 which is the most boring shit in the world even to noobs. Then they figured adding as much flash and sizzle as possible would mask the inherent flaws with the design so it’s also visually retarded. It’s like bedazzling a turd.
Tekken 7 was dull as a game, it just had more competency as a fighting game.
Tekken 8 has more going on but they made a fighting game that is maddening to play.
They’ve just slowly lost touch on what’s “cool”
A big part of any fighting games fun actually comes from the aesthetic
The aesthetic has fell since 5 and became hot garbage by 7. And since Japan never replaces management with younger dudes we’re stuck with there’s washed out boomers putting crappy dubstep and anime explosions in our fighting games
Destroy defensive options completely
Add heat mechanic that allows easy comebacks and free damage any time
Make game even more broken with every new patch
Oh gee I wonder.
It's very simple, the soul calibur team ruined both soul calibur and tekken with their casual friendly mechanics.
pozzed censored casual trash
Too many cooks in the kitchen.
btw if you want to see a truly pathetic sight, wait for the next 2 patches to release and bask in the amnesia.
The Disneyfication of Soul Calibur is what ruined it.
JUST KIDDING.
And nothing of value was lost.
This. Also, TTT2 is fucking great and the fact that even those retards are now going back to it is proof. The last great Tekken.
Also isn't the matchmaking in ranked still focused on player prowess instead of rank, so you've got long queue times to find a single damn match?
Except the last SC game that Nakatsu worked on was SC4, which is also coincidentally the game that Harada helped direct.
When did you realize that Tekken 4 was unironically the peak of the series?
Games that need updates to stay relevant are always a time bomb to get bad
When it came out. It was easily replaced by Tekken 5 though.
Chipotle shirts > balancing the game
there is no virtua fighter to steal ideas from so they need to think for themselves and this is the result.
You can't blame rank when even pros started playing other fighting games because how ass the patch made the game
I'm very casual but I don't understand what made everyone upset. on the surface everything played the same
It really was.
The problem is they have to balance the game around what's there. The underlying principle of how this game is meant to be played is fucked up.
Wrong, SCVI is a much better game. In fact, it was tekken that shat up SC for a while with SC4 and 5
I really want to stop playing. Every time I do I lose so much fucking time to the game.
I feel like there are things out there that would make me less regretful about what I did with my time.
They were too obsessed with esports. So they made the game extra flashy and offensive based to make the crowd pogface.
We'll soon live in a world where the only alive 3D fighter is Virtua Fighter
lmao how the tables have turned
I don't feel like VF can keep an audience. Players these days are too conditioned to flashiness and Virtua Fighter has had a deliberately restrained visual style.
Technical depth doesn't sell fighting games, as much as you wish it did.
how did they manage to destroy the series?
hiring people who previously worked on a mobile game tend to do that
This game died several years ago.
You retarded casuals ran around parading it's corpse because of hype, and now they doubled down on the thing that made T7 popular:
Catering to retarded niggers
Anyone who played T8 over the last year cannot speak on this game. If you played with heat and felt it was acceptable, I want you to kill yourself. You don't really like Tekken.
who said I'm blaming rank for the downfall of the game?
I'm blaming the nigger who responded to my quote, do you even know how to read?
Namco has been destroying Tekken since T5. It's the patient zero.
Why are they obsessed with making juggles even LONGER? They want the game to be more offense, after one juggle, the opposing player will be against the wall, forcing them to be on the offense anyway.
Could you explain what you view as the underlying principle?
Oh I actually agree. We'll see though. But all the complaints about Tekken getting way too crazy can't be ignored. People want a fighting game that looks like plain old martial art again and there's plenty of way to make that looks flashy.
youtube.com
What Tekken used to be....
Bruce revisionism
Bad post
Back to the subreddit, please. Plenty of Bruce threads from people who never fucking picked him.
remove all defense from the game
"defense" has never been a part of Tekken, also "high level" play was boring as fuck as a result so they made the right decision to amp up the focus on offense, then faggots on youtube started bitching and now they have to try and "fix" what was never broken start with to shut the whiny faggots up. I liked S2 and wished they left it as is with no changes whatsoever other than bugfixes.
muh roster
shut the fuck up, I wish the roster was even bigger, if you're serious about Tekken, you'll practice and get better instead of bitching about "knowledge checks", plus with a bigger launch roster means fewer characters they can resell as DLC.
I'd rather have Bruce than some cringe pinoy girl.
playing dark resurrection on ppsspp with a stick is peak tekken experience
pro tip: i couldnt give a single fuck about playing spergs who played tekkend for 50 yeras
Funny, everyone was complaining at that time, too
team
You mean the guy who worked on 4 specifically, the game that people hated because it played like Tekken.
She unironically had more personality than him, and didn't even replace him.
She had A few of his moves but none of the key ones. Hopefully they give Fahk some of the good power buttons, if anything.
Wished the airport stage appeared in Tekken again
The real reason people think that SC6 sucks is the laggy online. 3 bars in SC6 = 7 frames of delay. It makes some moves like Xianghua's BBB a nightmare to counter because you can't sidestep it in the middle and the last hit puts her at -6 when blocked, which might as well be at + with 7 frames of delay because the block stun is too short. The attacking player can just keep mashing and defense is very hard with that amount of lag. That is not even getting into how many armor moves everyone has.
NPCs follow the herd. If a game is deep it can retain an audience that is willing to shill it, your game has to look good before you hit critical mass and shift large audiences. Tekken was always a b-tier irrelevant series till 7 and the only thing that pumped that game was the endless shilling from Tekken fans saying it was the deepest fighting game, all lies but they absorbed a shit tonne of disaffected street fighter money.
sega netcode
ehhhhhhh
They wanted Tekken 8 to be "aggressive". It's been the guiding principle behind the game's entire structure and a word that's been presented several times in relation to what they intended Tekken 8 to be.
You remember that WebM that one fag posts who tries to demonstrate how elegant Virtua Fighter 5 looks compared to Tekken 7's KBDs? Tekken 8 was meant to push back against that as a design. They want a game where you spend your time trying to force an opponent to be defensive rather than baiting and playing cautiously. To that end you have a lot of plus-on-block (or at the very least safe with almost no downsides) moves, simplification of move inputs meaning it's less likely your strategy might go wrong (such as Kazuya being able to do his crouching throw just by pressing d/b+1+2 instead of that weird wiggle motion, meaning it's far easier to CD into or every Mishima now having the PEWGF shortcut when it used to be something specific to Kazuya that made it possible for those with great execution to ramp up their damage output), chip damage allowing players to keep an opponent on the back foot even if they're properly defending, and of course the entire Heat system (where characters get new tools to either cover gaps or make them even more obnoxious, Heat Engagers forcing an opponent into a 50/50, Heat Dashes that can make insane combos or super-safe approaches, and Heat Smashes conferring great benefits even if they're blocked, meaning just throwing one out there has no downside).
Defense is one of the hardest things to learn to do competently and Tekken 8 does everything it can to make it so people can cover their lack of defense with overwhelming offense, which feels extremely un-Tekken like.
Someone at CEO told me that "Tekken 8 doesn't expect you to study more, it just gives your opponent more homework." That's about the most succinct way I can describe Tekken 8's whole design ethos.
Why do people have so much trust despite the only thing existing are bullshots and cinematic trailers which is usually a huge redflag.
Since Tekken 7 my competency at the game has hit unprecedented levels but I feel like the games that were relevant when I finally got to a level of execution and understanding that I wanted to be at were also games that didn't excite me compared to the Tekken games that were hot when I wasn't this good.
Like I'm not a fan of Tekken 6 as a game. I think it's pretty meh (Soul Calibur IV even feels better as a video game) but I enjoyed the sorts of things I did in that game more than the way I had to play Tekken 7 or 8. If I could play like I do now back then I'd be more of a Tekken fan in general. As it stands these last two games I only feel like I've been putting as much effort into them as I do because I'm just not this good at any other fighting game, even if I think those games are more fun.
They were too obsessed with esports
also smaller starting roster
selling outfits that were free in T7
the tekken shop as a whole for fucking up DLC by splitting up items making you pay more if you wanted to get everything instead of including them in the season pass like in T7
the atrociously shitty looking bare feet models for the girls
People want a fighting game that looks like plain old martial art again
No they don't, realism is fucking boring and go to VF if you want that shit but you won't because you're all talk
"casuals" aren't the ones to blame here faggot, I blame esports and catering too heavily to the sweats for Tekken's "downfall" if I had to pin it one any one thing
Why are they obsessed with making juggles even LONGER?
Because they should be and they're fun as fuck and big damage should be rewarded to those who play well and practice
Josie was an upgrade and people actually picked her, she shared a few of his moves at best and that was it. Not nearly enough to consider her a "replacement". Nobody picks Bruce anyway and Tekken needs more women on the roster anyway
Yeah them removing everything that made the game difficult surely catered to the sweats
You are genuinely dumb
