Well, Steamies schizo is the source of a lot of these threads, and he's just literally insane. He got pissed when Valve dropped support for Windows 7, and was further angered when CS2 wouldn't run on his potato. He's been spamming threads ever since hitting these points:

Yeah, SMS and email 2FA, sure. You can't really mitm shit like authenticators though, and the effort required to get one of those 30 second codes otherwise is barely worth it for hacking the average joe's account.

If you can get the secret for TOTP, you can hax it, but that requires using an online vault that's compromised (or your phone itself gets compromised).

does steam allow you to input characters from an IME for your password? it's a moot point but just say theoretically if you were capable of bruteforcing a password, those programs typically don't even consider non-alphabetical characters such as the ~100-150K unicode characters in asian languages alone.

I doubt it, but just alphanumerics has 62^length possibilities, not counting special characters.

And I'm samefagging, but the complexity increases if you don't know the length of the password, so if you have a 18 character password, it's 62^18 *if* you guess it's 18 characters. It's a lot more if you have to work up to it.

it's just a curious thought to me because if it were possible then an alphabet attack is no longer a reliable cracking method, and you could potentially have your password set to something really short like 魑魅魍魎 which is a real phrase but very old and rarely used. it'd be easy to remember but still take beyond forever to bruteforce.

With all the estimated computing power in the world, it'd take a year max (assuming it was the last combo tried) to crack a 15 character password using JUST alphanumerics. When you add in special symbols and increase the length, it goes higher. Crackers are operating on much less than all the computing power in the world, so we're talking current age of the universe or longer.

Don't care. I have 2FA enabled and I use randomly generated passwords for all my accounts.
