Yeah I mean if you just look at that image it looks like ugly garbage. The game takes place in a fantasy world with no personality that's inhabited by golems, it's completely soulless. There are some nice locations and cinematography, but the vast majority of images you'll see for this game look like some kind of fantastical junkyard where nothing lives. That totally put me off the game right from the beginning, but no one else ever talked about it which is weird.

The city looks like a place where people live because there's lots of buildings and people.
The continent looks like a wasteland where people used to live and has broken down buildings and ferris wheels, and other remnants of civilization.
There's so much soul the game doesn't need to explain very much since you can pick up on things right away.

What I'm saying is to really use the setting to make characters that feels who fit in it while being weird/interesting.

It’s a good game, but mostly because of the parry and dodge aspect of the combat. The actual turn-based part itself is nothing to write home about. Characters are bland as hell and pretty one-note, and not a single one of them except Maelle goes through a character arc. Story’s fine for the most part until the twist, which makes the entire thing look like a joke, and Verso’s probably one of the worst written protagonists in a JRPG because of how inconsistent his motivations are.

The music is an absolute gem though. Renoir and the Paintress’s boss themes gave me goosebumps, and the Manor theme has been stuck in my head for days.

It’s a solid 8/10 game. A game worth experiencing but far from the best.

I liked the parry and dodge aspect, the music, art direction, the main antagonist, and Esquie. It’s not terrible, but it does fall apart if you compare it to certified JRPG classics like Chrono Trigger and Earthbound.

Honestly it's closer to an 8/10 than a 10/10 but the current releases are so shit that it elevates this game. It does feel very refreshing to have something with high production values that isn't packed with pozz, microtransactions, millennial writing, fetch quests or other time wasting bullshit.

from what I've seen the combat looks about as deep as honkai starrail, maybe that's why they get excited over anything that marginally more complicated.

if you're going to make a turn based game you have to at least try as hard as old school ff or fft, that's the bare minimum. I don't consider the parrying, dodging, or aiming projectiles in a turn based combat system interesting, just makes me want to play a real-time action game, which is better suited for those kinda of mechanics

Combat is a bit innovative, story compelling and characers relatable, music award worthy and the world map was a really nice touch and really begs the question why FF abandoned the overworld because modern graphics are no excuse to do so, it works just fine.
The game doesn't treat you like an idiot like many modern games do, it lets you come to conflusions yourself. I like the writing style that lets you learn about the world by watching characters do stuff and talk about stuff they already know but you don't. They just drop terms you have never heard before and Sandfall just trusts that you have an IQ high enough to keep up, it's the polar opposite of shit like Veilguard's writing. And there are no winks to modern politics bullshit.

The first Act is irrelevant due to the ending because the ending makes it irrelevant. By itself, and in the context of an traditional adventure, it is fantastic.

Destroy the world full of sentient people because a bratty teenager can't control herself all for the benefit of a single family. Also this was what the main villain wanted to do anyway so everything you did before this point was utterly pointless. This is somehow the good ending.

Ending B:
Entrap the soul of bratty teenager's dead brother into the world and enslave everyone forever, until bratty teenager gets an aneurysm and dies and everything is erased anyway.
