Experiment

I want to conduct an experiment.
I think the average gamer is actually too retarded to perceive certain things, so when you look at this Oblivion 2006 to Oblivion 2025 comparison, which of these two images looks worse to you and why?

Right is worse, too human in proportion, it's not believabale at all that it can fly on such small wings, pose it too human

Left is low poly but still somehow manages to be more detailed in its depiction, right looks like some basic bitch Unity asset.

Left is worse.
Composition is off
It looks stretched
Color balance is shit
Highlights are blown the fuck out
There is shading but no shadows.
The body of water looks still and unnatural
The overall polygon count is low.

so far all 3 of you confirm my theory

You are aware that the third guy in your mass quote is saying the complete opposite of what the other two are saying, right ESL-kun?

Not a theory but a hypothesis.

yes I am.

Muh wing holes.

Pretending to be retarded is still a form of retardation.

none of these people have pointed out the actual thing thoughever. they seemingly cannot perceive it, even though it takes up almost a quarter of the whole image.

looks worse to you

Left. Subjectively.

left looks kind of creepy
right looks like some guy in a cheap horror movie costume

Right imp looks worse

beady yellow irises instead of cool all red eyes

less manly, more punchable face that looks confused instead of angry

WAY less intimidating claws

more tatters in the wings breaking my suspension of disbelief even more than the left one does

The background on the right is leagues better at least

The worst thing about the right(Remaster) side is that weird nonsensical shit happening with the water reflection.

You asked which side looks better, I answered the question. If there's something else you meant by your post, either stop being a passive aggressive little faggot, or learn when it's time to shut the fuck up.

right's wings look too small and I prefer left's head shape and eyes.

Why is there water reflection on the right when there's nothing to reflect for the camera's view?

i can't decide unless you turn them around and show us their asses

you know, I was prepared to have my hypothesis proven right, but it might actually end up being closer to "99.9% of gamers" than just "the average gamer".

I'll reveal the answer shortly.

never heard of kelp?

I'll reveal the answer shortly.

You'll just post some shitty opinion on why everyone else is wrong and you're right and it won't even apply to all the answers provided here.

2006 one looks worse because it looks more like a gargoyle than an imp demon from Hell.

wow, finally some people who have the capability to actually perceive things. funny how a lot of other anons started insulting me.

yes, the thing I was talking about was the garbage UE5 screen space reflection technique. the imp is in the foreground, so why is the body of water located in the background reflecting it? because it simply takes what's higher up in the screen and samples it. you see this garbage in almost every single UE slop game, yet seemingly noone ever points it out, despite it being so fucking obvious. and then people go on to say that garbage like the Oblivion Remaster has "sick graphics bro"

I don't think either one in this case is "worse", they're just different. Most of the Oblivion Remaster is objectively better than the original however.

i like the one on the right because it uses alpha textures for the holes in the wings

Why don't you form a hypothesis regarding my scientestes ya little bitch.

Ah, passive-aggressive faggot you are, then. Maybe try using your words and ask the question you really meant to ask next time?

you see this garbage in almost every single UE slop game

pretty sure expedition 33 is a rare exception of NOT using screen space reflections
it's not a UE thing, it's an industry retardation thing

For the record, the water was at the top of my list for "things OP will mention if he's being obtuse"

not all screen space reflections are made equal. but these ue5 slop projects just use the default pipeline that just samples anything.

never heard of kelp?

I thought it was kelp too Doesn't really look like a reflection..

again, screenspace reflections and UE are hardly synonymous, this has been a problem for the entire previous console generation (and the generation before that was more known as the UE3 plastic specular map generation, there was actually more moving away from it in the next)

But I did? I specifically brought up the image as a whole and not the imp model.

Or maybe, screen space reflections are a minor annoyance while other points are actually major let downs?
You understand that people set priorities to things, right?

This shit really just looks like lazily copypasted kelp you retard, it would be easier to tell if it was a video and not just a screenshot

you're a retard and I hope one day you realize that

Nigga is really going to use the name scientist and act like this was proper experiment. The audacity to make a mockery of academia like this is really something else.

You asked which image I thought looked worse and to explain why, and I did. I really couldn't care less about water autism. You just suck monkey nuts at setting up a gotcha.

humongus kelp extending from the bottom of the screen to the horizon

suspiciously shaped and colored like the imp

yeah no

Something that completely destroys any scene its featured in is more than just a minor annoyance. For example, when you walk near a lake in the Oblivion demaster, and there are trees near the shore, every single time you walk past one of those trees, the entirety of it will generate a passing ghost reflection on the water surface.

Also, it's not like these things are mutually exclusive. You can point out what you think sucks about either imp model and still point out other things in the image that are obviously (to me) there.

the right is worse because the wings clip through the shoulder in the animation.
OPs image fails to show this.

those aren't reflections it's kelp or some kind of plant, you're fucking retarded lmfao

OP wanted to run a retarded experiment, it was his job to make sure the images correctly showed what he wanted them to show. He failed from the start,

not falling for your bait, but have a (you)

well i feel foolish
kelp mod when?

Well I didn't see anything obviously wrong until I checked the water. No islands around, no landmarks, no shoal or reefs popping out of the water, so I assume it's wrongly rendered reflection.

if you thought that shit was kelp despite it being completely symmetrical and clearly mirroring the imp, then I'm afraid it's not OP who is retarded.

Yes we all know what screen space reflections are.
And yes it's a minor annoyance.

it looks completely different in motion. disingenuous thread.

anyway water reflections are so low on the list of shit I care about, something this minor doesn't make of break the game's aesthetics. the original Oblivion has tons of stupid shit you could nitpick about too. you have to look at the big picture, you're missing the forest for the trees.

if the imp can be symmetrical then why can't kelp also be symmetrical?

right looks better because it doesn't have the shitty fucking eye cancer oventuned bloom

bloom is soulful, except in modern games.

if so many people missed what you were talking about, then it's not actually as important to how the game looks as you think it does. the preference over graphics isn't some intellectual debate, it's about how it looks, and if it has to explained that what you're looking at is wrong, then it probably doesn't actually look that bad.

I've read this post before. You've done this schtick before, I'm sure I recognise you.

I personally have not, but I also don't see why it would be an uncommon format that only one single person could think of.

Because it's not "the format", it's your self-importance.

there's no way to conduct something this way without coming across as self important to the average anonymous user.

I don't really have an opinion on which looks better (I like both images for different reasons), but I noticed the image on the right has reflections in the water, but seemingly nothing to cause that reflection.

only as few people talk about slopification, therefore it's not an important issue.

bro thinks things only become important once they reach the current Zeitgeist, you realise that the Zeitgeist is always at least 10 years behind?

meant for

Do you know what 'average' means, you cumslurping fuckfence?

This thread reminds me of that hyper schizo performing experiments in Oblivion to move faster and faster.
Has he been heard from since he last broke reality?

we need to bring back bullying
full force
the op would've learned how to talk to other human beings if he got beaten into a pulp every time he pulled one of these irl

yes, water reflections are not that important, which is why I'd rather have devs leave them out completely instead of resorting to half assed garbage """solutions"""

Never played any Oblivion game, right looks overall better in quality but the proportiosn are kidna off, the wings on the left look better proportionwise.

test

the one on the right has holes in his wings so he shouldn't be able to fly

nice water
