The party of course never regrets their actions and continue to ass kiss Cid the whole game, despite him feeding them this false information. Despite being only a singular playable character, there is zero customization for that character and he can only be played in one way. No party members. No different roles or weapons to use.

This game is also exceptionally ugly audiovisually. The graphics are pre-PS3 era and the soundtrack is basically if you told AI to compose like Uematsu.

Not that FF series required reflexes through its formative years to begin with. He was even sensible enough to not put any penalties for using them like locking gear cosmetics, items or anything behind a skillcheck. Instead he made a entirely seperate Arcade mode where le skilled gamers could indulge their cock measuring contest away from us. It's a good kind of segregation and I hope all other game developers are taking notes. Not all is rose and peaches though. Before DLC, accesory system might as well have not existed since all those miniscule upgrades to a single skill could've been upgradeable nodes in the Eikon menu. Eikon unlock rate could've been better as well. We were stuck with Phoenix/Ifrit/Garuda and 4 ability slots for far too long and even then we should've had 4 ability slots per Eikon loadout to begin with. Eikon accesories from the Rising Tide DLC should've been ability point upgrades in base game to begin with. Ramuh's Eikonic feat didn't felt good to use until you got the Reflection of Lightning accesory. Overall, I will remeber XVI better than 7R, especially Rebirth. My mind may change if some exec slaps some sense to Mr. KH and the other two stooges and force them to put similiar solutions in 3rd part.

Being so intrinsically tied to The Hideaway completely killed any sense of adventure pretty much all previous games had. That's one of the main things that made it not feel like a Final Fantasy game. All the rest feature a globetrotting journey where you leave your base of operations for a long time, and the big homecoming (Baron, Midgar, Balamb Garden, Alexandria) all felt like a big deal.
In XVI you leave in some random direction and are back to the Hideaway in time for dinner every day.

E33 has a world map reminiscent of older FF's. It has world encounters, world bosses, items to find, further explorable areas locked behind story progression, and optional areas to explore. Rebirth's approach to a world map is also solid, but making areas that size would take resources some devs may not have.

Somehow XVI managed to be worse than both XIII and XV. From a gameplay perspective XVI feels halfassed and unfinished in every way. Dead empty world and levels, laughable crafting, no real party members, zero depth to its systems or itemization, horrible side quests, reskinned mobs everywhere, and even the combat itself is just derivative of DMC but worse. I genuinely wonder why they even bothered to make this a game and not an anime or something. They could have told the same story with the same characters and the same OST but not have to bother building a halfbaked game around it all.
