Its objectively better than the competition.
Its objectively better than the competition
...in a world where Epic Games Store doesn't offer the premium elite experience you can only get by signing up for a free account today, kickstarting your new journey into gaming with a slew of free games you can only find there.
doesnt work on linux
DRM-free
keep your purchases virtually forever
you can download the offline installers and install your games even if you don't have an internet connection
It's pretty good.
It has a lot of issues. Besides, it's a pity that the only competition they have now is Zoom Platform. Itch.io is DRM agnostic (and indeed, many games are only sold as Steam keys), and Humble Store gave up a long time ago, and are now just a Steam key reseller.
Even fucking World of Goo 2 is just a Steam key in Humble Store, despite the devs using Humble services to provide a DRM-free copy in their own website.
Buying the game
Why would I ever buy from GOG when Steam is the better service?
GOG's features are good enough
You're paying a tax every time you buy on GOG because the GOG platform is inferior.
But I don't care about platform features
Why would you ever pay for the same experience a pirate gets for free?
Steam golem pretending to have standards
Why would you ever pay for the same experience a pirate gets for free?
To support developers that create good games, and do not use DRM.
thanks for the free cyberpunk installer
:)
I do have standards. Steam is the superior platform. Thanks to the marketplace I haven't bought a game using real money in years.
Steam doesn't force DRM.
Steam doesn't force DRM.
They force you to download their launcher to obtain their game instead of allowing me to obtain my game from a regular browser.
Epic gives me back 10-20% of my money from each purchase, but gog allows me to actually own my games. Steam had community and friend features.
Browsers are clients in the same way the Steam client is a client. Not an argument.
Almost a decade after the galaxy client released
It's somehow still in beta and completely barebones, seemingly worked on by one guy in his spare time
To support developers that create good games
You can do this one steam
and do not use DRM.
Steam doesn't force DRM
Why can't I use a regular browser? Why do I have to specifically download Valve's Chromium fork to obtain my games?
Why can't I use Steam? Why do I have to specifically download a browser to obtain my games?
Steam:
sudo apt install steam
Login, download binaries.
sudo apt install firefox
Login, download binaries.
You have no argument.
Steam won't let me download my binaries if I use anything other than their Chromium fork.
GOG will let me obtain my games with any modern browser, whether is Safari, Chrome or Firefox, or any of their derivatives.
I don't want to use a browser the same way you don't want to use steam.
That's how retarded you sound.
Don't care, still not using Steam.
nta, but you are the only retard in this thread.
Enjoy those licenses.
Still has DRM, you have to download their retarded launcher to download anything worth a fuck.
Also, it has no steam workshop.
I don't care if you use Steam or not. What I've never heard is an argument for why you would willingly pay the same for a product on an inferior platform.
If you care about platform features, buy on Steam.
If you don't care, then pirate.
I haven't bought a game on steam using real money in a decade anon. Try again.
good.
If you don't care, then pirate.
I will keep supporting developers, and not supporting Valve (or Epic Games, except when acquiring an Unreal Engine game, because there's no choice there), thank you very much.
go to GOG
search for game I want
no results
search for another game I want
no results
Yeah, it's amazing.
but just play this shovelware!
No.
you have to download their retarded launcher to download anything worth a fuck
Galaxy is a cancer, but what the fuck are you talking about? What games do require to be downloaded with Galaxy?
I've already told you that you can do this on Steam. That isn't an argument you have provided a retort to so I don't know why you posted this again. Are you a bot?
Its objectively better than the competition.
Yes.
and not supporting Valve
Mongoloid. If I buy on Steam (or a Steam key), I will give Valve money and/or data. I would prefer not to do so.
Why? There isn't a single company that has done more to improve the gaming industry than Valve. Your complete inability to name one speaks volumes.
Not a fair comparison when GOG literally gives its games away for free.
I like it
Valve was the first Western company to use lootboxes. And again, I don't like to be forced to use a specific Chromium fork. Valve certainly does not consider Firefox or the client to be the same, reason why you have to use their client to get your games.
I would get this if it got achievements. I don't understand why some of their games doesn't have achievements and yes I'm one of those people that cares about achievements.
Valve was the first Western company to use lootboxes
Yeah, which is awesome. I get the 99% of the gameplay for free. I get free gameplay updates. Community makes content for the game. They get a share of the revenue. Infinite updates for a game from 2007. What an awesome idea.
I don't like to be forced to use a specific Chromium fork
Ah ah ah, we've already proven this to be a false argument you have no retort to. You cannot go back to it without first providing a counter-argument.
Unironically kill yourself. Valve is cancer and has brought into life some of the worst things in gaming.
And yet you can't name a better company. Owned yourself.
KILL YOUR SELF
Firefox/Safari/Google Chrome and the Steam client will be exactly the same when I can get my Steam games from Firefox/Safari/Google Chrome. Until that happens, then it is not exactly the same.
Yeah, which is awesome.
You know what? You win. Still not using Steam because I don't feel like it, get fucked.
They were already inferior in many ways, but I didn't care because I believed in them. And then instead of focusing on selling games they started selling woke political crap. They're dead to me.
Keep barking, mutt. I command it. Nothing validates me more.
You know what? You win. Still not using Steam because I don't feel like it, get fucked.
I accept your concession. Maybe think for 2 seconds before echoing reddit opinions that lootboxes are bad.
crashes your gpu
Heh nothing personal kid
But Steam and Epic also do that.
does not have 4 of the 5 games im currently mainly playing
and no they're neither AAA games nor completely unknown indies.
can do the same on steam, you just need steamless and goldberg
inb4 can't do that on denuvo protected games
those same games also aren't on GOG, so while with steam you can choose to be online and have all games including denuvo ones or offline and have all games except denuvo ones, on GOG you have most of the games but nowhere near all of them and you 100% dont have denuvo ones, online or offline
and much more like built-in ways to interact with developers and other players etc
so not only GOG is absolutely not "objectively" bettter than the competition, they're not even able to compete in the race at all
Can I download breakout hit and GOTY contender Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on GOG?
No?
Then in what sense is a store that doesn't have the games I want to play better than stores that do have games I want to play?
Steamchads putting GOGies in their place as usual.
valve subhuman calling anyone else a mutt
It's up the dev/publisher to implement achievements and many of them don't bother. GOG release is just seen as a way to get some extended sales on old games for minimal effort.
Good mutt. Bark again as commanded.
Just don't play those games, chud. Enjoy Baldur's Gate 3 and gay bear sex instead. :3
Steam has felt more and more bloated as time has passed so GOG has been a nice alternative. Only issue I have now is all the interesting indie shit usually only ends up on Steam. I wonder if it's actually kind of hard to get your stuff on GOG.
Only thing holding them back is no galaxy on Linux. Hell if itch had a better program for linux pc I might use that over gog but its pretty shitty.
I'm getting lazier so convenience is key to me and sometimes just being able to grab my steam deck and play right off of steam is easier than using 3rd party stuff to download, install and find work arounds for gog
I agree, xister. My 2GB of RAM is practically obliterated by this huge client.
90% of pc gamers are Steam cattle so I believe indie devs see GOG (and Epic and such) as a waste of money supposing they have to pay a fee to get their games in GOG.
As a Windows user, I fucking hate Galaxy and consider it to be a cancer.
I wonder if it's actually kind of hard to get your stuff on GOG.
I think it might be because it makes it easy for your stuff to end up on warez sites.
Steam was the first good store. Everyone not underage has a large library with Steam. Nobody wants to use an inferior method to download games that are also available in a good client where all their other games are, even if it means FITEING TEH POWA.
Indie developers generally don't tend to have resources to take care of multiple versions, and thus they are likely to maintain only the version on the most popular storefront. Balatro could've got a DRM-free version on Humble Store (where it is available as a Steam key) or itch.io, which has no curation whatsoever (and it's not available there), but they've decided to not release such version.
You're probably right which is a shame if that's the way devs see it cause I can tell you both are retarded easy to pirate on. Steam had maybe one additional step.
steamcuck choking on Gaben's cock
Why does nobody ever bring up in these threads that GoG's refund policy is obviously superior? You can literally play a game for over 100 hours and refund the game after 4 weeks if you want to.
There isn't a single company that has done more to improve the gaming industry than Valve
Aren't you embarrassed being this big of a bootlicker?
Because GOG knows that people would only buy a game if you intend to actually buy it. It's not like people don't know where to obtain free GOG.com builds.
faggot not understanding what I typed
If you have 1000 games in one place, and another place is "better because no DRM" which doesn't matter to you anyway, why would you buy elsewhere (especially when that "better" place is less convenient to deal with, and likely will go under in the next few years)?
you can own your games
Only in the eyes of an insane person.
but if it goes down or they delete my account, I still have my installers
If you're retarded enough to waste space with installers. Also, the odds of Steam going down before I die or banning my account is close to 0.
Because if you're gonna do that you might as well just pirate the game.
yeah actually it took me 100 hours to decide the game was shit
GOG makes it extra convenient by giving you a neat wizard installer package. Piracy made easy.
want to pay game
launch Galaxy
7-10 times game does launch
Its objectively better than the competition.
What did anon mean by this?
I'm glad they finally realized how stupid it was to try and compete with Steam and pivoted back to just being about Good Old Games with the whole game preservation thing.
Bit weird that they are deadset on not supporting Linux. The marketshare has been on a slow and steady rise for some time now.
While still niche and mostly chinkshit all x86 handhelds are aiming for Linux now.
It's also weird that Valve got into Linux support. You wouldn't think Linux users would like having proprietary stuff on their computers, but that attitude has changed.
What's the point in it?
Valve went hardcore into Linux due to the windows 8 launch. Microsoft decide to try and charge people money to install steam from the Appstore, ever since then Valve has been trying to prop up the Linux gaming Ecosystem.
they tricked me into buying silent hill 4 by saying they patched it.
the cutscenes still have double vision [character models are rendered twice and phase through each other]
ms store was never mandatory for software installation
it was just internal mumbling that never got anywhere
But keep lying.
In defense of the Loonixtard, there are Windows version where you can only install shit from the Microsoft Store.
Windows 10 in S mode is a version of Windows 10 that's streamlined for security and performance, while providing a familiar Windows experience. To increase security, it allows only apps from Microsoft Store, and requires Microsoft Edge for safe browsing.
support.microsoft.com
This is apparently the only allowed version for OEMs.
Since 2018, OEMs can ship Windows 10 Home and Pro in a feature-limited variation named S mode which evolved from the discontinued Windows 10 S. Organizations employing Windows 10 Enterprise or Windows 10 Education can make use of S mode too.
That's a choice, but not the default for OEMs. It's largely for bulk purchases by corporations who don't want monkeys installing malware (but don't enforce AD policy). Home users installing Steam would never encounter that.
Fair enough, thank you.
I like the Gog because I can get games for free there
basically this, steam was worried that microsoft would pull an apple and lock everything behind their microsoft store
You can install shit from outside the App Store on macOS, tho. And if it is notarised, it's a cake walk. If it not properly notarised, however, it's a bit more challenging.
GOG Deck when?
Genuine question but what is there to work?
You can just download games from the site and install them
Do people really need storefronts just to run their applications?
'ock on 'og
