How many years do you wait before you upgrade your gpu?

How many years do you wait before you upgrade your gpu?

15123.jpg - 716x960, 56.75K

until it is actually unusable

3 generations of GPU. I use AMD

Once my youngest complains she can't run a game, I'll upgrade my card and then the chain of hand-me-down begins. It must suck being the youngest child, but as the oldest, I simply don't worry about it

1000024833.png - 598x458, 292.3K

Back in the day I would stay behind a generation, but now it's not worth to keep up.

When i can no longer get a stable 60fps 1080p on mid-high settings

so like 10 years

2060 super

i don't give a SHIT
jews can suck my dick

when games don't run anymore

horse = expedition 33 threads
labrador = me

Infinite years. I've only built one computer in my adult life and already lost interest in videogames. I spend most of my leisure time outside now.

4-5

When I can no longer get 60 fps at 2k resolution. That's when I will finally upgrade.

6-8 years

3060 Ti

i don't need more

My 980 ti just died after 12 years or so... actually surprised it lasted that long especially since I've been running it all these years with a +200mhz oc.
Now I consider building a new rig but everything seems like shit buy nowdays.

Two generations, usually
I take the even Nvidia ones

Now in the past few years, I tend to just expense it through my contracting company so it's effectively 'free' (gets taken out of salary before tax so I just don't get taxed for a month or two)
Usually just get a pre-built with parts I pick. Around 4-5k since I chuck it all out when I get a new one

yeah a super recnet graphics cards willdothat for your pc you omega retard

I'm still using integrated graphics since 2010ish

still using a 980 GTX

I don't even know where to fucking start

mOnvOJG.png - 2244x2377, 379.31K

When the next generation flagship is available.

I wait for it to be 250% better than my current gpu and around $200 I don't mind buying used.

Six to seven years.

8gb

DLSS doesn't bother me - so probably 10+ years

Why is the horse tasting that dog?

Until a game I want to play doesn't run. That being said, still rocking a 1070.

what's the most recent game you played on it?

Expedition

I do two, but my 6600 non-XT is feeling too outdated. Can't swapped it on these prices, though, so I guess I'll have to sit at least two more gens.

12

2060 6gb here. Fuck it. The hardest games I've got are the REngine Evils. Put something out that makes me care more.

upgrading

I simply don't play modern goyslop, all my favorite games can be run in my (non gaming) 2020 laptop.

pepe neet.png - 860x860, 96.46K

Usually about 5, unless it's a 1080 ti in which case we just don't know yet.

MH made me upgrade from that card.

rtx 2060.webm - 1280x720, 3.98M

I need to upgrade my CPU, not GPU.
And I can't make a reasonable CPU upgrade without getting a new motherboard.
And if I'm going to replace my motherboard, I might as well get a new GPU as well...etc. etc.

Ryzen 5 2600

GTX 1660 super

16 gb ram

What should I get, I have a budget of aprox 700 freedom money

3, depending on how things are currently running.

This game is a fucking joke, not even a 5080 can run it well. I wish I could refund it.

I don't plan on upgrading it at all. when it dies I'll replace it.

Well, you'll have to get at least a 5700/5800X3D if you don't want to start over.

i've resigned to buying a prebuilt and then just using it until it dies and then just getting another prebuilt even tho i built my first 2 pcs i'm just very lazy
i'm like 6 years into using my current one with an rtx 2060 and it hasn't died yet so pretty good value, effectively costs me 1 day of wage cage pay a year

I usually go 6 years

effectively costs me 1 day of wage cage pay a year

as a thirdie this makes me insanely jelly

Usually I just wait until there's a new big release I actually want to play. Though, I had to replace my last one, and everything else, after only a year because I spilled milk all over my computer.

I built an emulator rig so i just stopped caring about modern tech or modern games.
I only upgrade the GPU in it (second hand AMD) if it literally dies. It's only happened to me once so far, in 12 years.

The 5080 is 1400 dollars of pure ass. Wilds needs 24 gbs of vram to run well.

Radeon 6770

1080ti

4070 super

I'm a poorfag.

Also, 50 series is a meme.

I skip a generation.

First 'puter had a 9800 GTX, was a poor broke ass teen back then so couldn't upgrade for a whole fucking 7 years to get a GTX 970 in 2015, that was like 5 whole generations, then I got a rtx 2070 in 2019 and an rtx 4070 in late 2023
So my current rhythm is every 4 years, next one will be either a 6080 or a 32+ gb vram card from AMD or Intel whichever comes first

I know, and it's insane. Barely looks better than a PS4 game. Capcom is just pushing crap out to the market since retards don't complain.

i probably got that math a little wrong tho since i was thinking about my pay now vs what i paid for it 6 years ago
also everything here is dumb expensive like 10 dollar sandwiches and 10 dollar coffees so it makes sense to invest in my pc because it enables me to not go outside and waste my money on everything else like eating out (i'm a cheap ass)

5-6 years.

PS5 has 16GB of memory (shared RAM/VRAM). Series S has 10GB, 2GB dedicated to OS and 8GB split to RAM/VRAM. The PC version is just optimized like shit.

Crab Ultra requires sacrifices.

The PS5 can't even begin to render crab ultra.

Until a card with significant benchmark improvements above the one I'm currently using is below $300 Canadian.
Its been a while.

Any game I can't play on my 1080ti isn't worth playing so I never will.

im using it till it breaks

Upgrade? There will be zero reason to upgrade past 2022 at the latest (you can easily get by on a 2020 card though)
Why? Because games have stagnated, we don't see improvements anymore. So the real answer is you only need to get a new card whenever your current one physically dies.

My 1660 ti Is starting to be outdated, I couldn’t run MH wilds and Oblivion remastered decently on it so it’s probably time to change it, so yeah about 6 years

POV: you have 16 GB of VRAM.
