i like good car destruction, but i prefer when game is fun first
like, FlatOut1 and 2 are great and super fucking fun, while Wreckfest is a snoozefest, and sequel will be as well

you can have the most impressive destruction, but game still can be shit

Yesterday I was driving in town and some Boomer had smashed the front end of his restored vintage Chevy - Chevelle I think - into a guard rail. There were engine fluids everywhere. Nobody seemed to be hurt. Boomers drive Honda Accords their whole lives then get a midlife crisis high power RWD car without power steering and ABS and crash it.

I've been playing more BeamNG and Forza, but honestly the damage model is "reset your race" 95% of the time and interesting consequences maybe 5% of the time.
I'd like to see a damage model that doesn't go 100% realism.

I prefer ones where your car gets visible dents and cosmetic damage, but it doesn't affect your ability to get back on the track and drive

arcade racers = optional damage or just superficial scraps/textures

Yeah BeamNG is cool and I love dicking around in it but serious driving in it can be a pain in the ass when even a gentle tap can mean your steering is entirely fucked
