read the cards, find jokers that pair with things you already have gotten, try and build a strategy though sometimes it just doesn't work out. for example if you have the Hiker it is kinda worthless on it's own but if you pair it with cards like Hanging Chat or Seltzer where cards are played multiple times it can really add up, while i wouldn't recommend keeping it past the halfway point of a run getting your 2 to be worth 50+ chips on it's own is quite nice.

upgrading hands with planets, especially bad hands like high card are pretty useful when all else fails.

Tarot cards are extremely useful, as modified cards are small upgrades that add up over time and don't take up a precious joker slot, for example Chariot turns a card to steel which gives you a 1.5X multi by simply keeping the card in hand and not using it.

skipping should be a consideration on it's own and might be a big cause for the failed runs.

The game is the same as pretty much all other roguelites. Initial hump until you get the hang of it, then it's piss easy and the game keeps throwing bullshit mechanics on top to increase the difficulty (i.e., make it more luck based, without changing any of the strategic calculus).

Since I've never seen these compiled or clean in one place, here's what all the Negative Jokers look like (they're not just a regular invert filter, believe it or not). I think the console ports do just use a regular invert filter though.

I'm not a big Balatro guy because I think the game gets stale after 10-15 hours, but I cannot fathom being that terrible at the game. Are you focusing on terrible hand types or something? Just do high card or pair. Flush and straight are okay when you get specific jokers, but also are prone to getting cucked by boss blind.

all hands are viable in Balatro not just the 5 card hands, one or two planet upgrades can make even a high card worth more than a straight or flush, and with matching jokers can shoot it to incredible scores.

Well stop with the straight retardation for starters. Flushes are deceptively rare until you get to trash some cards or change some card suits. Go three of a kind/full house until you figure shit out.

Then Four Fingers (straights and flush only need 4 cards) is basically necessary and you'd see a big boost with Smeared Joker (all black/red suits match) or Shortcut (lets you skip a number for a straight). I had to look the joker names up because I haven't played in awhile. If you don't have these unlocked yet, then you might wanna just focus on high card and pair. I stacked planets and would open a fuckton of tarot cards, but I'm also not an expert. If you start to reorganize your jokers, you should be fine. A single poly joker makes a huge difference.

Skipping for jokers is bad on gold stake, there are so many debuffs your free joker can spawn with, riff raff and judgement are good for making jokers that aren't completely terrible, also the chance of finding an economy joker increases if you visit more shops

i've even had a run with burnt joker where i got High Card to level 75, you mostly just play whatever gives the best score until you get a few jokers and lean into whatever they do.

Alright, finished skimming the thread. I can only give generalized tips from what I'm seeing because you're not really giving us full info to work from.

First order of business in a new run: pick up one joker that will keep you alive for an ante or two, ideally something that will semi-reliably give you some flat mult every hand. +3 mult when playing a scoring diamond card, +20 if the hand contains three cards or less, +4 "just because" just take *something* to that effect or even +chips if desperate or wait a blind or two if you think you can get away with it

Secondly, once you have something you stabilize your run and buy you time, you start looking for jokers to build around and push your run forwards. This generally means get one joker early that gives you $$$, and eventually get one joker that gives +chips, one that gives +flat mult, and ideally three that give times multiplier where they don't conflict like one joker that requires 4 cards be played while another requires 3 or fewer cards be played. Jokers that scale can be good, pick up one and work on scaling it to high amounts.

Third, joker booster packs are value for money especially if you don't have five jokers yet, and tarot packs are usually quite good. The others vary depending on your circumstances.

For joker deck, with a smaller hand size, I'd value even a base joker turned negative to allow more multis. Early usually, tags don't effect handsize, spectral packs do.

It hasn't. Get flushes out of your brain. Treat flush as if it isn't actually a poker hand. Do whatever it takes to stop pattern recognizing them. It's handicapped yourself terribly, before even accounting for the crappy 10+/2x synergy jokers it falls behind the other 2 5 card hands at level 2 and falls behind a simple 3oak by level 4. You will churn too many cards seeking them out and will always fail when it's most critical you succeed unless you have done heavy deck fixing, which benefits of-a-kind hands much better and opens you up to being slaughtered by a boss debuffing your suit, or hand size, which also benefits of-a-kind hands and in hand effects-something that is much more powerful if you only play a limited number of cards per hand.
Just stop playing flushes. The only flushes you should play are straight ones. Stop treating them as a thing that is possible to play.

Yesterday, I was trying to clear gold stake on red deck for a solid 5 hours. I felt my enjoyment for the game disappear more and more, but I'm a huge autist and couldn't just let it go. Then I got the bull joker after the very first round and suddenly knew what I had to do. So I launched Cheat Engine, gave myself a ton of money and just breezed through. I'm now free and can enjoy the game again.

Basically, fuck gold stake. Never again.

If I were you I'd have been going all in on Obelisk, playing any hand other than flushes would quickly get your mult up to two or three and more from there, though you'd have to replace Supernova too. Either way between Obelisk and Fortune Teller there's no reason (other than the person sitting behind the keyboard) as to why you shouldn't be able to win this run.

Any Joker that resets for dumb reasons is a white card in my eye, only Rares I care about is Blueprint, White and Baron. Playing around Obelisk on top of other pigeon-holed cards leads to failure a lot imo, unless it's a holo.

Dude white ante is very easy, I don't know that ALL runs are winnable on white but definitely a majority of them are. If you play with your eyes open you're guaranteed to win in at most a few tries.

I'm just enjoying throwing shit together and seeing what works. Haven't "figured out" the golden path or anything. And watching northernlion is extremely comfy.

Addition before multiplication makes numbers bigger. This is good.

Targeting specific poker hands(Two of a kind,Flush,Straight, etc.) that match your jokers is good. Don't be afraid to discard.

Some Jokers have effects you can build up! If you want you can focus on building them up! On low stakes it's very easy.

Interest is very good try to save money if you think you can win easily on lower antes unless you see a really good joker!

Re-rolls start low so take advantage when you're above the re-roll threshold but don't press it more than 1 or 2 times to conserve money for packs. Use rounds to re-roll. This is good and makes sure you stay above the interest threshold while buying packs and jokers!

Consider Re-rolls in general to always be over priced unless you're drowning in money above the interest.

Spend down if you feel like you're going to lose! It's better to win and get 0 interest than lose.

Make sure to like comment and subscribe for more knowledge you should've learned by the 5th grade.

100% Misprint will carry you through a couple antes, it averages at +11.5 mult and that will help you big time, beating blinds quicker makes more money. Do not gamble on the buffoon pack when you can buy misprint

Buy the econ joker, though the cloud nine you stupidly sold would have been better. Start playing high card. Play your best five cards that don't involve queens, enjoy the money, use the money to get much stronger in the next few shops.

I wouldn't say the pair joker is better than misprint because it locks you into playing pairs while misprint applies to all hands, cloud nine is good because it could be a while before OP finds another economy joker.
You are underrating misprint it gives you a boost in the early game you are just mad because you low rolled one time and now hate the joker. Misprint is definitely superior than mr bones

splash is mediocre but those other two dont matter

the hourglass pays off you just have to ignore discards and play 5 card hands so you can get to your queens sooner while looking for a good hand. It is better on red deck

or take the two pair joker and space man to level up two pairs, it's a slow scaling hand so space man will help a lot with that

with misprint you can one shot the big blind and the boss and one shotting gives more money which pays for the misprint, it definitely pays off and you need any source of mult you can get, having more mult isn't bad

Photo multiplies your mult when playing face cards, it is insanely broken with hanging chad and planet cards, you can basically one shot everything by playing high card with photo and chad.
