Have Fortnite, the most popular game in the world

Thinking I would install another launcher just because of free games
Constantly seething about the 30% cut as if I give a fuck how much publishers have to give Steam
Not even making the games cheaper, so your platform is only good for publishers

For me to use Epic Games, there would have to have to be a game that

I want to play

is only available while using their client

This is how everyone thinks, because they're already using Steam. Nobody wants to use both.

>is only available while using their client

That's literally what they tried to force though with exclusivity deals. Still didn't work

steam is just superior in every other way.
how is it even significantly different from release?
it feels like they've done nothing to match the features of steam.

When they released their online store, they barely had basic functions like a cart. You had to buy your games one at a time before they fixed that. Instead of just making a good platform, he went on a crusade against 30% store cut. Noble goal but contradictory to making a good online store. He just paid to make games free instead of solving the core problem for a very long time.

Even if we assume Epic had complete feature parity with Steam, what would be its point? GOG has no DRM and old games, Epic has... virtue signalling about dev cuts?

They spent $0 on getting the user experience as smooth as possible and making the client application something that people would voluntarily want to use. Offering exclusives and free shit doesn't help if accessing those perks is a miserable dogshit experience due to what can only be described as staggering institutional incompetence or pure straight up malice towards your users, it's been more than six years and the client is still a half functional prototype flaming dumpster that can't even move game installations from one folder to another.

Seriously what the FUCK went wrong?

turns out, you can't buy a customer base. and to be fair the only reason valve was able to build steams massive user base is because they were one of the first.

YOUR OPINION DOESNT MATTER GAMER
DEVELOPERS WILL DECIDE WHO WINS THE STORE WARS

gets mass abandoned once the exclusivity money dries up

I saw a youtube short by that ferret furry guy, sorry where he said timed exclusivity deals are always a bonus for the developer, but completely failed to understand that literally nobody cares about a game coming to Steam that's already a year old. It's vital to have your full audience reach when you release, cause modern consooomers only buy games out of FOMO

most popular game in the world.

It's not 2022 anymore unc.

Steam games aren’t cheaper either, 80% discounts don’t exist anymore and games are over $70 in the next coming months. Lastly, you can’t play 90% of Steam games outside of Steam. Stop believing Valve is helping you, they aren’t.

First

No they weren’t, look at my picture and tell me if you’re old enough to post here.

ignores that anon said "one of"

Thanks for conceding.

True. Only aging millennials and gen z still play boomernite. All the gen alphas are playing Roblox.

But Roblox is older...

No they weren’t

okay let's see we've had direct 2 drive and gamersgate but both of them had a horrible CDN, next to no customer support and no good games and both of them weren't really a thing, just like all digital distribution, until steam got big.

No steamie it wasn’t, Gamespy was created first. You also have online multiplayer stores, Shockwave existing before the release of Steam, etc. You’re wrong about Steam and we know it.

bought Rocket League

game went free to play, killed the userbase then killed the diehard fans by getting rid of the market and trading

Lot of DEIs

Seriously what the FUCK went wrong?

Being Chinese malware.

GO EPIG? GO BROKE!

Fortnite got more players than any steam game, as fortnite kids get older they will have a backlog on Epic. Meanwhile steam userbase is aging millennials with less younger generations joining it

slow to implement features

has barely any features at all

can't even review anything unless you're randomly picked AND notice the little notification saying you're allowed to review something

bad rep from the drive scanning thing

bad rep from being like 49% owned by China

bad rep from buying up exclusives and having exclusives at all

a lot of the devs that got the free money for being an exclusive either phoned it in or outright quit and ran off with the money

guy running it needs a paddling pretty bad but nobody will give it to him

people only download EGS to play Fortnite, they don't give a fuck about what else is in the store

Bonus: EGS's marketing and overall footprint sucks so much dick that the entire Kingdom Hearts franchise was ported to PC and made exclusive on EGS, yet not one single fuckin' person noticed or cared, despite decades of people begging.

Still spreading lies steamie

Yknow, that could very well happen. Steam only got big because everyone already had it installed for Valve games and then saw that there were some other games with deep sales
But aren't most Fortnite kids on phones?

t. Chinese malware

Nyet.

just namebrand. all these retards itt rationalizing after the fact, probably use a shit browser same reason

Fortnite got more players than any steam game

No kid Steam is not part of “one of” it was late into the game when Gamespy had higher players, Dell’s Wildtargent give kids free games for signing up, Shockwave had players who liked mystery games. What you’re telling us is that you’re too young to be here. Only OG Anon Babble gamers know Miniclip was the place for games.

cause modern consooomers only buy games out of FOMO

I can't speak for other people, but I'm autistic enough to be spiteful towards the devs if they pick the timed exclusivity route.
Like, you make me wait a year and then expect me to pay launch price when you bring the game to Steam or GOG? Nah, 75% off is the best I can do. You made me wait already, I can wait some more.

only 3 services before it

So Steam was one of the first. You already conceded, and admitted to being a paid pajeet shill
No more (you)s

the most popular game in the world

roblox

Pretty accurate. Doesn't even have to be out of spite, but if I'm not buying a game on release, I'm waiting for a sale. And exactly like you said, I'm already waiting so why not wait a bit longer?

go to isthereanydeal

egs never at the top

Here's the reason, getting something for free I either got (at a discount) years ago or won't play doesn't matter.

Fortnite had alltime peak of 14 million 5 months ago

So what you're saying is over 90% of Fortnite's playerbase has left for other games? Ouch.

Habits are really hard to change. Even when you have a superior product (just look at how fast the other chans turned back to ghost towns after Anon Babble came back). Now imagine trying to change people's habits with an inferior product. Even if you give them free shit, they'll just take it and go back to their habits. Amazon gives their VOD service for fucking free and yet people still pay for Netflix despite how shitty it got.

trying to fight a monopoly before it enters the stage of decay

ngmi
timmy needs to wait until gaben dies/steps off and valve kills itself

I use unreal engine to mod some games and they gave me chiv 2 for free which is my favorite casual deathmatch game. Even when I feel like shit or im tired I can play chiv2, which is often because I have a bunch of health problems. I usually cant focus on stuff like factorio anymore
