remake when
Never the game is aids
Hating FFXIII is reddit.
remake by the same team who did the FFX remasters
fuck up all the faces
skybox gone
every bit of detail gone
adds raytracing because its the hip new thing
fuck up the remastered music
Square will then have the gal to ask for 80$+ tip for each game
Technicals beat out Direction in art departments. Having a MEME TECH logo on the box is now more important than the game actually looking good, even in current year when there's no box for games! That this happened right coincidentally with Hollywood artists infiltrating the games industry is some perverse, unexpected shit.
Anyone ever used a mod or code to remove the game's barriers and get a good look at the game's map?
remember when the PC released messed up the rendering of the eyeleashes and they looked supper thick?
It’s basically a narrow hallway with really pretty wallpaper. Or a museum with cool looking exhibits that you can’t actually cross the velvet rope and interact with.
this, ff13 came out at a sweetspot where technical development in graphics was cresting but art direction was still in control, in particular, art directors in video games insist on dioramic miniaturization to create illusions of depth which ff13 still uses very well despite the intuitive assumption that greater graphical fidelity frees the artist from having to rely on such primitive, illusory technique.

Me on the right
So is liking.
Worst FF, worse than FFII. XV was enjoyable at least.
reddit opinion
what for
I'm playing this I'm at chapter 13 right now so will finish it later on. Better than I thought it was gonna be, I'm enjoying the paradigm system and the graphics hold up really well, looks sharp and clear as fuck at 4k.
XIII-2 I'll start tomorrow.
Liking FFXIII sure is
redditors hate XIII.
I was younger when I played XIII, but I really don't remember having nearly as bad a time with it as I did with II. If it wasn't for being a mainline FF I would have probably dropped it like halfway through.
These pretty looks have costed FFXIII everything, btw. This game has no redeeming qualities except it's art direction and soundtrack. Today's AAA garbage is basically the same but the art usually sterile to appease wide groups of people, beside this nothing has changed.
The game ran at an internal resolution of like 540p or something. It didn't look that sharp.
Claire thread? We are so fucking back.
More Claire.
One of the most beautiful video games I've ever played.
Holy based XIII chad. Make sure you share your thoughts with us over on /ffg/.
Unforgettable cast of characters who grow and change like real people
Incredible ATB combat that becomes more and more precise the further and further you push
Sight/sound synthesis that's just as effective and memorable as any other JRPG you've ever played
10/10 soundtrack that never gets old
Touching emotional storyline that captures many great FF themes like family, what it means to be a hero, the reality of what technology means as the antithesis to nature, and many more more timeless themes. Themes that are far less grand and more down to Earth than most FF games are, despite the setting being so extraordinary.
Snow looks like a hobo
Final Fantasy XIII has the best art direction in the series.
The soundtrack is top 5.
The combat system is the best in theory but the game outside of late game optional encounters never actually requires you to use it to its fullest potential and you can get by most encounters with barely any paradigm shifting.
The world and lore are cool, but the actual story in the game is nonsense and further muddied by the sequels that retcon a bunch of stuff for no reason.
i keep forgetting she has her belly button pierced
Hobo-chic is a great style
Pic not related
Doesn't need it.
Unless they put a full lenght uncensored sex scene between her and the shota and at least 10 hour of romance (including handholding in worldmap) i can't see a real need for this.
I have dropped every 3D Final Fantasy game I have ever played. They all suck.
Music plays through combat
i know you want us to look at the girl and moon thing in the back but take a gander at the remaining 80% of the scene
I agree with a lot here, but I don't agree that the story is nonsense. I understood the story quite succinctly. The story itself is extremely straightforward. But it's the background lore and terminology that confused people. Otherwise, it's all pretty normal.
Machine Gods from Heaven and Earth are at war. Machine Gods stole resources from Earth to create Heaven and pissed everyone off. The Machine Gods created Humans as their fodder. Hundreds of years ago, all the humans down on Earth were vaporized instantly in a massive war and the only humans left remained in Heaven. The machine gods from Earth (Pulse) want to tear down Heaven (Cocoon) and end the unnatural order of fake paradise. But the twist here is that the machine gods of Cocoon are batshit psychotic, and no longer seek to fight with Pulse. They seek utter and complete annihilations of their creation. That means paradise and all of the machine gods must perish. Two factions of machine gods then have the same goal, and humanity is stuck in the crosshairs in the middle. Their fate it seems is to be destroyed by mechanisms that are completely beyond their control. That's when the story of the game begins, and our heroes are united in a quest to save their loved ones from Crystal stasis and uncover the truth of their existence. The majority of the story itself is just character interactions and their individual emotional arcs that culminate in the finale and the heroes freeing themselves from a cursed fate.
Oerba is 10/10. Hamauzu is an ambience god, and FFXIII is a fucking atmospheric masterpiece. Slow walk through this game at 4K with the music volume mod turned up. Holy fucking kino. Unforgettable
currently giving this game another go and really am quite impressed with how it looks even to this day
I'm about to blow your mind though because the 80% of the rest of the scene is entirely thematically integrated, rather than just being some generic snowy mountain like you're assuming.
The location is called Oerba, specifically the mountain range before reaching "the last village of humanity" remaining on Pulse. The hometown of two of our Aussie heroines from nearly 700 years ago. It's also the last location you reach on Pulse before returning to Cocoon (the moon thing). This place used to be lush and green, full of flowers and wildlife, a symbol of nature and technology living in harmony. But it has succumbed to a massive, unnatural blanket of "crystal snow". But it's not really snow, the crystal dust mountains of Oerba are made up of all of the [spoilers]shattered souls of every dead human that was vaporized in the machine god War of Transgression 700 years ago[/spoiler]
Final Fantasy XIII pretty much never just shows you something for no reason. Every piece of art in the game in every background has a thematic integration and purpose for being there.
game that's a bunch of hallways and FMVs has an easier time being more visually impressive than Minecraft
Wow.
Never I hope. Actually finish FF15 instead. It felt like the game was maybe 1/4th of what it was supposed to be even with all the DLC padding.
Never fucking ever, it's shit and almost destroyed the brand.
Why the fuck did they make 3 of them then
Because the producer was in love with Hope or Lightning I can't remember which one, but he begged them to make more games of his waifu
A rose.
i've been playing the FF games in order and i should be playing XII but i kinda just want to jump onto XIII already due to its reputation over the years
This was back in the "milk as many assets as possible" days of Square. But they had bigger plans for the whole XIII world in general, with Versus and other projects being part of it at some point.
that man must have god like persuasion skills, not only got 3 games for his waifu, the last one was a dress up game
Because Lightning is incredibly popular.
We must find him and bonk that mfer on the noggin
Quite the opposite, I'm afraid. Claire is /ourgirl/ from the very beginning. If you could just play the game for yourself, you might see why.
XIV 1.0 was almost a Spirits Within tier apocalyptic event and they had to get something out for damage control
RIP Versus XIII
It was when Square Enix didn't know what the fuck to do with Final Fantasy and FF13 was printing money so they gave the guy the go ahead to make more FF13 games reusing assets.
It's still not a good game and I absolutely hate how if Lightning is knocked out or the party leader is k.o'd then the rest of the party are dead too and the fight is over. Also Snow is such a twat, I really didn't like him no matter how much I tried, that and the game itself just got too boring.
I remember going from FFX straight to FF13 and how disappointed I was and that memory of disappointment has never left me
Given how fucking flat and unappealing the females in this game were I have to believe that Toriyama has never seen a vagina in his fucking life.
I bet he's still a virgin today, too. How can you make a character like vanille and fang and not give them any ass or tits.
And lightning. She's practically male. They have NO curves. None of them. The most sexual appeal you get in XIII is Nabaat and she fucking dies half-way into the god damn game.
That makes sense i remember now being convinced they where dead in the water.
I had read about financial issues they were having and after 13 came out being so poorly received i was like these guys are done but maybe not creating everything from scratch for a few games really did save them
Woman is when big boobs
Get some new material.
have you seen the average jap
no, javs are not the average jap
Yes. Only women with round asses and fat tits are female in my world. Women with no ass or tits are not women. They're washboards.
It was the game that made me commit to never pre ordering a game again.
Also Don't forget the voice acting was aids well the English one anyway
Now post her side profile you fag.
Get out of the thread troll
Based
I don't mind 13's linearity
Tell me about it how unappealing is lightnings thigh gap like nigga i dont want to look at skeletor when i am playing final fantasy
I have, but what is your point? The characters in a videogame aren't regular people, they are supposed to be at least supermodel level.
FFXIII has great voice acting
I only began to hate it when I got to the end-game and realized gil-farming was a fucking snooze-fest and the achievements like treasure hunter were just blatant low-effort padding to make you put up with the lack of a polished and engaging final boss gauntlet or the like.
The maze with atlas was also pretty shit. It got real boring real fast.
The grind to get the growth egg early was also pretty shit.
The game is designed so that you get it way too late into the game.
That shit is just wrong.
supermodel
just came here to say that my favorite final fantasy is 12
Same
oh NONONONONONO
Fang looks smelly
Lightnings thigh gap
Hope is so lucky...
Fuck I forgot about the voice acting, was Snow Troy Baker? Christ it was bad.
FFX for all it's faults in voice acting suited perfectly the theme of the game, but FF13, man what the fuck were they thinking.
Then they went and doubled down for FFXV, they never shut the fuck up I could not stand Prompto, such a whiny little runt.
someone sure is a whiny little runt
would love to get a whiff of her
why is he so tiny?
"Well?. They ain't gonna lick themselves."
I like Lightnings small cute butt, long legs, pale skin and perfect boobs and I'm tired of pretending otherwise
Shaved
fang 100% stinks
Lightnings hair is pink and soft and she's basically hairless from the neck down.
I want to replay XIII. I really enjoyed it when it first released. Never played the sequels. Port it to PS5 or even the Switch 2, Enix, you hacks.
No upscaling and blur.
Final Fantasy XIII is worth revisiting.
XIII-2 is the best SE FF game and the closest thing to a Chrono Trigger spiritual successor we're gonna get.
it really isn't
Ponder the fragrance
It is.
Fang and Lightning were pure sex.
Agile development is just a good excuse for managers to go AFK and return periodically for waterfalls with sprints.
Everything looks like shit, because it's thrown together in quasi-crunch conditions and the breed of managers hired are the kind to brag about how much crunch they can manage.
Irrefutable
i like her low res belly button
It's been 16 years since my biggest disappointment in videogames already? Shit, Sonic 1 wasn't this old when the PS2 came out.
Oh look, the "it gets good if you keep playing" area.
Except that it never got fucking good and I couldn't even bother beating that turtle because that shit was aids.
Looks like shit tho
No, that's not the same area. You're getting confused my friend. Maybe be more familiar with a game before you decide to shitpost/troll about it
Real lack of Vanille itt
The fuck are you talking about? The jungle is right next to that area.
Let's change that
Joke's on you, I liked XII, XIII AND XV. XVI pissed me off with its shit campaign but the DLCs were tight.
Did XIII have any cultural impact like X?
I mean, it did get a lot of sequels so surely it sold a lot at least?
Try again man. That was Sunleth Waterscape on Cocoon, not Sulyya Springs on Pulse.
You're likely thinking of this area.
Is the the XIII trilogy at all worth forcing myself to play through?
I've tried to get through the first game twice but I always get bored about 5 hours in, the combat is just so ass
Right after the FFXV remake.
i bet you hear that a lot
Should I bother with XIII 2 and Lightning Returns?
Can we at least agree that XIII was one of the best casts designed by Nomura? I feel like these were his last hurrah at being a good character designer before something about XV's development broke his brain and turned him into total shit afterwards. I'm still appalled at how fucking ugly the KH3 cast was.
XIII-2 is a top 5 FF game.
Either you like what they are trying to do with combat or you don't. In reality, you don't have to fight every enemy in front of you. If you want to push forward and just fight bosses to give yourself challenge, then just do it. The enemies are there as practice targets through 75% of the game to prepare you for bosses and the Hunts on Gran Pulse. 5 hours is not even 10% of the runtime of the game, so if you want to actually enjoy the game, you need to buckle in, get invested in the story, and run down the hallway. The gameplay opens up significantly later on and the game becomes closer to what you "want" it to be. But they need to tell you an entire story first.
What went wrong?
They made games non-hallway sims like ff13.
I need my heckin' open world!
Zoom zoom
the only thing besides a hallway sim is open world
Holy 13fag cope
a concrete journey where you push forward through all obstacles no matter the circumstances
ludo....kino....
Well, alright.
Id replay this game just for the music and the environment for sure.
AIIIEEE WHERE ARE MUH COMFY TOWNS AND NPC'S LIKE EVERY OTHER GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED??? I'M LOSING MY MIND!
Poor SE, you people really are the reason why they don't go out of the box anymore
Oh I remember this shit. Everytime I thought it was over it just kept going. I had to concince myself that the game was a dungeon crawler to force myself to play it
STEP INTO THE RAINBOW
Yes but she will never piss in my mouth so why should I praise her game?
SOUL
The camera mod is worth it.
FIND ANOTHER VIEW
Cool core memory. As much of a disappointement I thought this game was, the feel was great.
Nothing left to fear, l'Cie

Shore of sand, your fate awaits
Oh, surrender in the light
what box nigga the box is light-years away at this point, I fucking wish they were still in the box
CHASE THE ARCS OF LIGHT
SOAR BEYOND YOUR SORROWS
i like that gen 7th "sheen" 3d models have in japanese games going for a "realistic" look from the 360/PS3 era. Does anyone knows what i mean?
tfw ff13s character models are more high quality than FF14s.
The story does shit the bed in the last 10 minutes when Fang turns on the team for some retarded fucking reason then everyone turns into Cie'th then a literal deus ex machina turns them back.
The skybox in this game was gorgeous.
FF13 thread, nice
I love this game, one of the greatest games of all time
Not my favorite FF but still an absolute masterpiece
they really fucked up hair this gen
Sure, when you pump up the resolution it does look good but this is what it looked like on PS3 at release
Lightning
Hope
Snow
Lightning's sister
Fang
Nigger
Uhhh That's all, i think
Pretty good for a game I dont touch in 16 years.
I wish I liked FF13 and FF15 for that matter, I tried to convince myself that I liked them but sometimes games just aren't meant to be much like relationships.
The PS3 had like 200mb ram.
I love how hunting Long Gui is almost nearly pointless because the rewards are no better than easier enemies like the turtle before the cradle you can just keep grinding for ingots and the connoisseur's catalog is actually worse than just using a collector's catalogue.
13's balance is just fucking weird. Most of the weapons for certain characters are actually WORTHLESS too.
They each have one that's better than the others it's so weird and Sazh has lower base stats than anyone else which is weird as shit.
Vanille and her aussie moans
youtu.be
dissing my man Sazh like that
That tortoise is just like that dragon they had in FF12 that took hours to kill. It's just pointless shit only an autist would attempt.
looks better than games coming out today
No it doesn't. Only if you compare it to bottom-of-the-barrel shit graphics-wise like MH Wilds.
Fang turns on the team
She was going to kill Vanille, the game explained that clearly when she states that she'll do anything to save her and will bare the Focus alone. Orphan was trying to torture them until it happened. Fang thought if she killed Vanille she would free her from the nightmare of what's to come next. Short sighted, emotional, flawed thinking. Yeah.
then everyone turns into Cie'th
Fang does a dragoon dive on everyone which was powered up by Orphan's tail. This is basically a spell to turn everyone into Cie'th. But it's not a true transformation, just a spell. The party are cast into darkness but instead of falling into the despair Orphan drowned them in, they held onto the memories they had crafted together. You can say it was Deus Ex Machina, but that's quite literally the enemy they are facing off with. Fang and Vanille are tortured into transforming but it doesn't work. The spell is broken and the heroes awaken. It's all there if you simply pay attention.
Oh yeah. I knew it was off in my head that Lightning's sister wasn't Fang's scissoring partner. But i couldn't fill in the hole.
Forgive me, it's been 16 years.
You want a Trapezohedron? Here's a fucking 5% chance with rare item boosting accessory, and if you equip the common version it will reduce the rare item drop chance!
13 really needed more attention to detail for its shops and upgrade tables and shit. Toriyama blew all the budget on the visuals and lightning's non-existent ass.
devs counting on graphic fidelity to make up for a lack of solid art direction
then their games run like shit so they force upscalers on players that make their already boring looking games turn into blurry messes
Why was Square never able to replicate the level of art direction in any of the subsequent FF games? 13 has a ton of variety in the environments and they all look gorgeous and unique from one another. Meanwhile everything in XV and XVI starts to blend together after a while.
Short sighted, emotional, flawed thinking
You call it that, after an entire game where her character growth was meant to be getting to see the group as her new family she'll do absolutely fucking anything to protect, I call it retarded for the sake of a twist that doesn't land
It's all there
They had to explain half the shit seen in the cutscene in the Ultimania. Even if that wasn't the case, having an explanation for a stupidly bad bit of plot development doesn't magically make the plot development not stupidly bad
This creature has my sympathies.
No
FFX was a masterpiece that incorporated a ton of new tech at the time, had extremely high production values, successfully set a mature and downbeat tone, had lots of memeable moments...
FF13 has excellent direction, arguably the best in the entire series, but it lacks that other stuff. I've never seen an FF13 meme outside of threads like this, and by the time it released other franchises had caught up in production values and tone.
It's a very good game, a spectacle to play, and engaging, AND it's the only FF I've ever bothered to beat (and that includes 6-8, 10-13). But it doesn't have the braod appeal and impact of 10 or 6, let alone 7. I think even 8 has more cultural impact.
reeee stupid and bad and bad and stupid
no I don't care that the game explains itself and that you never had to read the Ultimania in order to explain it to someone else
Sad sack. You're just mad.
It's a very good game, a spectacle to play
Irrefutable
to the anon posting 4K screenshots of the game, are you taking these pictures on the fly or do you have them on your HDD already?
This creature has obliterated my sides.
no argument
I'll accept the concession. The game is made infinitely worse by Fang's autistic spergout.
I still would im that despesate
despesate
We know, Sukhdeep.
Seriously sebd help. Im currently paralyzed i. My bed.
Honestly, that looks great. I played this on a 720p plasma and it was sex. You have to remember back then was the start of over-cluttered environments for no reason and loads of specular effects and shit fps. A clean and crisp aesthetic that ran like a dream and a purpose-built world was actually very refreshing.
This isn't a meme thread.
YOU don't have an argument. You simply dismissed my explanation of the events by claiming that because there's an explanation in the Ultimania, that it's "bad". You admitted that you didn't understand what had even happened, and when I explained it to you myself, you claimed ignorantly that it was "stupidly bad" twice.
Fang spent 700 years in crystal stasis. That's hell. She got her memory wiped of what she did. She's a confused, and twisted human being who has been used as a tool for longer than she can even comprehend. In her mind, "doing the thing" but killing Vanille and her friends first so that they don't have to witness the horror is somewhat justified from that point of view. If this really is what MUST happen, then in her simplistic mind this is the only way out. Attacking the party in blind rage (Orphan planning on this the whole time, buffs her with "Turn Cie'th") Fang accidentally turns the heroes to Cie'th instead of "killing" them. She then says "are they my sin to bear for choosing salvation"?
Home...
Cont
The reason why this is important is because it is DESPAIR that will lead to the Ragnarok that Orphan seeks. He says that over and over again. Fang is the key and so she's the number one target. That's why he breaks her down and singles her and Vanille out. He knows that's the only way to get what he wants.
incredibly
Eh, being raked 8th isn't really "incredibly popular"
nhk.or.jp
What's the best way to play this? I've still got the disc and a PS3 (somewhere...). Emulate? Pipe the PS3 through an upscaler? Does the Re-release have the same problems as 10?
ahead of Tifa
ahead of Sephiroth
Ahem?
One time in a museum one of the guards let me step over the rope and get closer pictures of some art pieces. We chatted a bit, and the museum they recommended I go to in NYC has been closed ever since. Bit annoying.
But yeah it's super cool to get to go over the line and get closer to the art.
It would probably be one of the few remakes that's better than the original.
I hate Pokémon shit
Modern games are so bad that XIII is now 'good' in comparison
Remember this game fondly from my childhood
All these threads convince me to go back and try it
It actually fucking sucks and I drop it before Sazh and Vanille get to Nautilus
Fuck you
Final Fantasy XIII was always good
But it turns out it's much better at 4k 60fps than it was at 720p 30pfs
drop it before
You didn't really play the game though, so why pretend you did? The game has great music, great lore and characterizations, fun strategic combat in the boss fights, flashy spectacle, some of the best cutscenes in the entire series, and overall some of the most striking art direction in any video game ever made. If you push past those slow points that you don't like, and read the Datalog to stay up to date, I think the emotional payoff as well as gameplay payoff is well worth "the hallways". If you don't give a shit about anything in the game, sick of holding forward and none of the aesthetic is interesting, then there's no reason to force yourself to play the game. It's not for you. But if you actually see NOTHING of value in the game, IDK I'm convinced you don't have functioning eyes/ears.
Okay you've convinced me, downloading the games rn. Now how do I play this game properly? Is there a rentry or a modlist or something to get me started
Im all smarter than you and i believe the game could have been much better
it wasnt a problem of design or idea, but execution
its not secret that FFXIII had a shiton of cut content
Jhil was also robbed
there are a lot of rushed ideas
the game genuinely needs a remake to fix it
PC
XIII was always good, zoomie.
Photorealism as an "artstyle" sucks dick
Nice revisionism, my spiritually jewish friend, but just because it's comparatively less shit than modern games, doesn't mean it wasn't massively shit on on release.
FF13 went for grafix over gameplay
I literally played it on release.
you know 13's big disappointment is what finally made me play FF7 for the first time.
And then I was blown away by how much better such an old game with lego looking characters like FF7 blew the fuck out of anything Square ever did since FFX or any jrpg in general really. FF7 truly deserves all the praise it gets and more. The only bad thing is that every time I think of FF7 I always remember FF13 exists too.
Okay let's break it down
You'll want FF13fix
github.com
You also definitely want the HD mod
nexusmods.com
I also really like the free camera mod that lets you move the camera around, pause the game and even disable the HUD but this is a huge huge bonus for me
github.com
If you want to play completely unmodded, just get FF13fix. I also recommend checking out the Nexus for other mods that may interest you like body shape mod or enhanced difficulty mod.
You should know the game takes around 30 hours before you can make your own party, get on a Chocobo and ride around in an open field hunting monsters. It's a long and linear game, and some people really can't stand the idea of just moving forward. For me, I really enjoyed appreciating the character animations, the ambience, and music, and all of the work and attention to detail that was put into the game.
Kikes have been seething over XIII since release.
Based, especially if you mod it. The Steam version runs miles better than PS3 and you can fix a lot of the weird lighting, blurry textures, and low-res shadows with a couple of community patches. Also 60fps makes the combat flow feel way better. Only real downside is the occasional stutter, but it’s rare if your setup is decent. Just don't bother with the Xbox PC port. Legit trash-tier.
final corridor XVIII (no HD towns, they're too hard to make)
Oh yeah, music volume slider. The default volume is kind of quiet and it helps a lot to turn it up a bit which is a setting that's not available in the normal game. Absolute must have
nexusmods.com
it could afford it because level design was just hallways and what you see in the back are just glorified backgrounds not explorable areas. It just a background. More often than not FF13 felt like a 2.5D game than 3D.
Thanks anon
All 4k screenshots I've posted in this thread are using HD Models Plus mod
Very much true. That was a Jew in the JonTron video. It's always been right there the whole time.
Based
Ff13 still sucks
Lightning has no sex appeal
FF13 felt like a 2.5D game than 3D
Soul. Return to based.
FFXIII would be much better with more fixed camera angles to frame the backgrounds. It only happens a few times during the game during traversal and it should have been used much, much more.
Retard.
Bring back fixed camera angles and pre-rendered backgrounds.
It was the game that made me commit to never pre ordering a game again.
lmao same. I thought I'd be buying every FF game until they stopped making new ones. now it's been around 2 decades give or take and I've all but given up on the series.
FF XIII could have been awesome if it had a better director.
Game with the best direction in the entire 38 year series needs a better director
(you)
Lightning and Vanille both have this (Anon Babble) bodytype. How gay must you be to not find this attractive?
lived long enough to see people be nostalgic for ff13
I think it's time.
do you not know how to use this site?
oh my
Godspeed
Games used to be entirely handcrafted by a team of professional experienced White and/or Japanese people, nowadays games are all outsourced to third world countries or AI, resulting in bloated ugly visuals that run like shit on anything but the latest hardware.
?
The furthest I ever got in XIII was the gold saucer. It felt like I hadn't made a single decision until that point. Not with combat (it's automatic), not with builds (skill tree with only one branch) not with party comp (changes every few encounters) or with where to go (it's entirely linear).
Home...
Oh wow, now if only this was explained in the game? You know, you thing you paid 60$+ tip for? Next you're going to tell us about that nonexistent gameplay that never was.
You were basically still halfway into the "Grand Tutorial".
I want to be Lightning
why
the XIII trilogy will forever be a massive waste of potential
SE crafted this very interesting world that the games barely explore and mythos mostly dumped in logs only to deliver trite stories with absolute charisma voids of antagonists, it also took the third game to get a combat system that wasn't completely brainless and even then they had to simplify it with only lightning
xiii team went on to make 7R
despite all of 7R's misteps the combat is really good
xiii looks amazing, has awesome music, story is good its just buried in text logs
combat is basically trying to be what 7R is but is hamstrung by trying to be true to a somewhat turnbased/ ATB game
13 could have been one of the coolest fucking games of all time. It just needed some off the beaten path areas to explore and fully embrace the action combat path it was heading in... it hurts to think about the missed potential all these years later.
The game SHOWS you this stuff though. The datalog will summarize what it has shown you rather than characters dropping out exposition constantly. The song is called Dust to Dust in English. Colorless World in JP. The typical phrase of "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" refers to how man will always return to the Earth in death. In FFXIII, the souls of Fal'cie, monsters and humans alike are depicted as being Crystals. So if you were to imagine a sea of crystals, you'd have to imagine where each of those crystals came from. If it was a sea of crystal sand, then there had to be tens of thousands if not millions of crytals that were all instantly shattered. Perhaps not every single human on Pulse, but a vast majority of the people and monsters that were present at the final battle in the War of Transgression. The game doesn't sit there and write this shit in big bold letters for you. It simply shows you how the world works, gives you some background flavor, and then exposes you to it's phenomena. See the entire opening hour of the game.
why does it look so blurry despite being in 4K? i hate modern gaming and all their effects so much
despite all of 7R's misteps the combat is really good
lol
Google "Depth of field". It has nothing to do with picture resolution at all. You're getting mad at "modern gaming" for no reason, since modern games have nothing to do with it.
No time to shave when the Guardian Corp is taking up all of your time.
that is not depth of field, everything in that screenshot is blurry
Looks fine and sharp for me on a 4K monitor
13 could have been one of the coolest fucking games of all time.
It really could've been. The combat system, music, art, and lore are all amazing but they just needed a better game around them.
its what i said in it had tremendous development problems
Imagine fighting Jihl as she chases you down
the game shows you a turd
"GUYS, THIS TURD WAS A MONSTER ONCE!"
"SO DEEP"
to play devil's advocate modern gaming has been obsessed with shoving as many post processing effects into games as they possibly can since ~2012; to the point where, for a little while anyway, a lot of games wouldn't even let you even disable a lot of the effects until either they noticed people praising devs like Croteam for having extensive option menus or they noticed the people complaining about the over use of the effects.
Why is it a turd? Checkmate
Stop being so fucking angry online
